I'm also somewhat exasperated by a lot of the views on here following the game. We only just lost 1-0 to a massive spending ex-premier league club. At their ground, and they are favourites for promotion. Apart from 30 minutes, out of 90 minutes, we more than held our own. We've had dominant spells like that at times when everything seems to click. We held them to one goal won by a hopeful punt into the box and a moments indecision between new keeper and CB. Otherwise Blackman was hardly troubled. We deserved the draw we were robbed of, yet some people on here are in meltdown and calling for heads???? Get real, we're going to lose a few, the above loss is not bad by any standard.

After we beat Brentford, some fans seemed to think we had a good chance of being promoted

It gets me that so many people were, and still are, saying that this league is of a poor standard; as if the likes of Middlesborough and Villa are barely any better than Bury and Oldham.

I suppose that, if in naivety, you actually believe that then you would get angry and upset over a defeat.

I cannot believe there are Blades thinking the players will just continue where we left off, my opinion is anything above 20th this season is more than acceptable mid table to me is success, anything higher well let's not get ahead of our selves,
Next May if we aren't relegated then push on, it's a learning curve not just for the players but for wilder and knill, given time and backing I believe we can go places just given time to adapt, 2 seasons at least.

The team are trying to play exactly the same way as last season. Last season the opposition weren't good enough to expose our weaknesses and punish mistakes, this season they will be. Just as we pinched it against Brentford with a goal, the same happened to us yesterday, that's how it will be for the most part as this division is always very tight.

We know we'll be competitive at worst so let's see where we are after 10 games, the fact Wilder is still looking at a centre half, another midfielder and maybe a striker suggests he knows we still need improving squad wise, and probably 1st XI.

In contrast we had a perfectly good goal disallowed and Randolph had to make one excellent save - and a routine near post from Leon.
Leon also had the chance in the first half, created after Freeman cut the ball back. A first time shot may have been a better option but it was still a chance created.
For all their ball retention and dominance the only other key chance they had was the Gastede header that hit the post - good chance but not on target.

Yes, we were under the cosh for good periods of the game but we were the away side and there were two divisions between us last season.
We will improve as the players get up to speed in this division.
I'm not disheartened at all.

I do see Cardiff as a really stiff test on Tuesday, though.

The point is how it exposed our weak areas, You can tell Wilder was onto this after even the 1st game- midfield is a problem and centre back, also left back might not have been recruited as good as we thought although more game time might be an issue, we could have a hussey situation.

The second part of the first half would have benn a huge wake up call.

And I'll say it again, as good as Bash was last season he isn't good enough for this league and was terribly exposed yesterday.

It's round about a 100 mil over 3 seasons not including the youth players like Gibson who is valued round the 25m Mark as well as friend and I think Clayton

The only thing that disappointed me yesterday [well apart from the blind linesman] was that after they scored we seemed to go into our shell and frankly looked terrified of them for 20 minutes or so. Before that we were going toe to toe and causing them problems.

Second half we showed that we are in no way out of our depth. A little more quality and presence of mind was required at times, but nothing was drastically wrong. Lots of positives to take from that game and considering we have been on the end of at least 3 outrages offside decisions already then it will have to even itself out at some point.

As with the majority of comments on here, did anyone genuinely think we wouldn't lose this season? The flip-side in all of this is that it should actually strengthen Wilder's hand when it comes to assessing this season's results. Wilder has been very clear about himself, he's loyal but not sentimental, so should the Board fail to match his ambitions then we may well see Wilder decide to leave for pastures new. I hope not, and I expect that this season we'll lose a few, draw a few, and win a few. Nothing surprising about this, at least for those of us whose expectations weren't dependant on an exaggerated run of results. Seasons like the last one don't come around often, so they're to be savoured, not imagined as the norm. We've got good people in Chris and Alan, so hold fast and steady, given time these guys will direct us to where we all want to be. Hysterics never helped anyone, so calm down, allow yourselves to take a deep breath, and, given time, all will become clear. UTMB!

Two additions could change everything.

The holding midfielder who can also play a bit (not a Monty or a Doyle) who would then give the likes of Fleck and Coutts the freedom to do what they do best.

The powerful mobile centre forward (that's not Evans imo) who can hold it up, chase things down and create for himself when isolated in games like last night.

Now I am aware these types don't grow on trees, nor unfortunately do they swim around in the League one and Two pool where we have been fishing this summer, if the money isn't coming from the board then the season long loan market may be worth looking at, not just in this country either.

1 - 1 would be one of the results of the season. Whilst I think Boro will eventually finish higher than Cardiff this season, once their new signings bed in, at this particular moment Cardiff looks a significantly tougher prospect.

I wish we were now going straight into the Barnsley game next Saturday.
