Not bothered about Europe

Does anyone have any data as to whether Europa League actually has a significant negative impact?

It seems to me like there's that mini-league in the middle of the Prem table and the teams in it rotate quite a lot.

Wham and Watford finished 10th and 11th respectively and are now both at the bottom of the table. Wolves had a rough start, having to adapt to European football but now sit nicely in 7th again.

Seems like a large part of it is that some teams simply have a poor following season and then people attribute it to the Europa League. I haven't seen anyone do a breakdown as to the actual effect compared to normal jockeying for league position.

I want Europe and I want a cup win. Both are realistic.

However Man Utd, Arsenal and Spurs aren’t going to be shit forever.. all of them will more than likely outspend us in the summer and “normal service” will more than likely be resumed..

Can anyone honestly say they wouldn’t want a European giant at the lane on a week night? FFS.

Final point, suspensions? How would suspensions in Europe effect us?domestically?

Some great replies to this ! I mean 4th and subsequently qualifying for the Champions League is an absolute no brainier. It transforms the club financially and commercially.

The Europa League - far less prestigious, poor financial gains (£s to strain on the squad and club exposure) but I couldn’t ever stop wanting it this season, never. I’m also not sure Wilder would pursue Europa League glory over Prem survival if indeed such a campaign did take off and League form dipped.

In reality this thread is definitely 10 games too early !

Why though ?
It would more than likely cost us our premier league place
The squads not strong enough and I doubt if it will be next season

I will tell you why. Life is too short mate, plenty of great Blades that are no longer with us could only have dreamed about what we are doing now and the opportunity we have this season. It's unbelievable but at the same time for us living the dream today so possibe. To say it would cost us our place in the PL next season is subjective on your part I disagree. I have no doubt that plans are probably already being drawn up should we qualify and the recruitment that would be required. Wolves have coped OK so far and before we go on about how good they are with Neves etc. they are currently behind us in the league.

I doubt Wilder is thinking we should play safe and finish 8th.

Really good question, cause lots of people chat lots of shit as if it isfact.

2nd season syndrome was flagged as a thing on here earlier this season - turns out it doesn't really exist. I wouldn't be surprised if Europa league syndrome, doesn't turn out to be the same.

Hull were the last team to be relegated after a season in Europe. In 2014/15.

Wolves, Burnley, Everton, West Ham, Southampton, Swansea, Newcastle all 'non big 6' that have had a go on the continent and maintained their PL status the following season in the last 8 years.

Let's just imagine that the workload isn't too much and playing 40 games before Xmas doesn't affect our performances ...so what ? The Europa league is fucking shit !

Sorry for going over old ground.
I hated it when we qualified for the Europa. You earn relatively fuck all & usually start the PL season with injuries because you've been playing competitive games when you still should have been playing friendlies in July.
However, just carry on trying to win every game & see where you end up.
If you qualify (CL would be a dream come true, I'm sure), you'll enjoy it & if you don't qualify, you won't have a load of unnecessary ballache, next season.
It's true though that, you have to grab opportunities, when you can. They sometimes don't come round again....

We may never have a better chance than now.
We said “never a better chance” the season before last in the championship and yep we did have a better chance
Wilders not building a one season momentum team that’s the last thing he’ll be thinking about
Not bothered myself if we miss out this year but welcome the highest finish we can get for the financial benefits
Always next season

Just fucking ridiculous to be honest. I don't know what else to say. What you gonna do if we score a last minute winner last kick of the season to qualify for Europe for the first time in our history? Boo?
You can just imagine the scenes of despair, people stood there head in hands, oh no what have we done, this is going to be devastating. I,ll try not to upset these people too much when I’m going hysterical with happiness

We are the biggest club in the UK to have never played in Europe...so it would be a massive novelty and a truely historical occasion.
I know loads that have promised to attend our first away match in Europe no matter what. I’ve made the same promise to myself and family.

Watch it go and be an away tie against an unknown village team in Israel, Azerbaijan or Georgia.
It’ll costs loads to get there and you can bet their ground will be miles from an airport, no pubs anywhere and old bill carrying machine guns.

To be honest I think it depends where you finish.....5th isn’t bad as you automatically qualify for the latter stages.
7th must be a relative nightmare having to start your season in July...would still take it though.

Hammer In Peace is right, grab the opportunities when they come along because we don't know if they will ever come along again.

When Liverpool won the European Cup last season, did they say we are not going to play in it next season because it might ruin our chances in the league.

It would be a dream come true for the club and the fans if we did qualify for Europe.

Can see Wilder taking a leaf from Klopp’s book. He‘ll make a statement after the game we win to qualify in the post match interview and say....
“We’ve booked a holiday weekend away int Skegness for the lads and we‘re not cancelling ‘t holiday plans. We‘ll send the under 23’s and their coach”.

Couldn't care less about qualifying for Europe. Second season in the Prem is always tough. Much prefer us to push on without the distraction of Thursday night games in Slovakia, injuries, suspensions etc.
Oh dear!

Is the second season harder than the first season then? If so, how come many teams only last one season?

We play 8 games a season less in the Prem than we did in the Championship and League 1. Those additional games didn’t seem to hold us back in the last three years?

I wouldn’t mind those 8 games being Champions League or Europa Legue games. In fact I’d love it!

I’ve waited over 50 years to see my team, Sheffield United FC, compete on the world stage and here is an opportunity.

I can’t believe that any Blade could be thinking this is a bad thing. But then again I can’t believe any Blade didn’t want us to go up to the Prem. But some did!

“Not ready”. “Get pasted everything week”.

Honestly... I despair at that kind of thinking, but hey-ho! That’s life.

Hows snuffy and little mo with the gimpy leg?

I want us to win every game,I can’t help it!
and if my dream comes true we’ll have to
play in Europe as well. The last part of my dream when I score the winning goal in the CLF final might be a problem though.

Each to their own but this is the next step boys and girls...like it or not it will increase our reach 10 fold and our brand will become more attractive to companies, better quality players etc... (if we were to qualify) it’s called progression. I have full confidence in the management team to be able to manage our participation in all competitions.
