Wasn't he out of contract (and intending to leave)?

The issue was that we couldn’t afford to offer him a new contract equal to that which he was on. I remember Wilson talking about that before he got sent down. I don’t think Ched had given any indication one way or the other but Wilson indicated our only hope of keeping him would be if we got promoted which is to be expected with a young striker who scores 35 goals at that level.

Although I do agree with what you have said, I would not say he has particularly let us down. Without Ched we would have never been in the battle for promotion that season, and the fact that he did something the year before does not mean he planned for him to be sent at that point of the year, he only let himself and his family down, if we were good enough we would have got promotion that season, we let ourselves down... just like most of the time.

My opinion is - Ched was happy to rejoin united when he was released, if the club had the guts to keep him after all the publicity we would have him in our side right now and he could be making an difference, but certain people associated with the club at the time did not accept what he did ie Jessica Ennis and Charlie Webster for example, for obvious reasons, is that not letting the club down?. But he is now proven not-guilty, so did he actually do anything wrong. "Innocent until proven Guilty". Yes he was guilty first time round, but this has now been over-turned, and I bet all these people getting at him will not apologies and will still have that same opinion, give the guy a rest!

I am glad for him, he has got what he deserved in the long run and that is to play football. The only people in the wrong is the court for ruling an in-proper result and the woman involved, she was known for it in the past and sent people down before for rape, so she clearly went to court for a sweet-bite of income since both Ched and the other footballer involved were never interested in her apart from a 1 night stand!

Going onto Ched, I wont be cheering for a guy playing against us, I support my team, however I have no slack for him, I dont blame him for us not going up, stop pointing fingers and admit we bottled it without him, I am accepting what has happened and hoping for the best in United for the future. In my eyes, I want us to re-sign Ched, clearly he is still a natural finisher and in a sense I think he will most likely score on Sunday against us, that is if he gets past EEL and co.

To add, I am pretty sure most other footballers have cheated on their wives, and done bad things as bad as Ched or maybe not, but this is all hidden in the background, and probably they pay people off to not release anything, this has only blown into this proportion for his publicity he had at United and how well known he was, and that only!

Not taking this as an argument, but I feel people need to calm down with what has happened, put it in the past it is over 4 years ago now, hope for the best in United and stop pointing Ched to blame, I am sure he has experienced enough recently. Nevertheless he was a fan favourite for us, fans clearly want him back and I am sure he will do wonders for Chesterfield this year, even with they're current situation.

I fully expected to see Roberto’s name at the bottom of this post.

Suggest you think long and hard about what matters to United, the one and only thing worth anything this season is to win promotion. To consider a goal from Evans worth us missing promotion is, in the politest of terms, fucking crazy!
It was a joke mate

I hope he scores a consolation goal at the end just to see if he celebrates or not

Yeah, his reaction would be the best indicator of whether there is any truth in the rumours of a possible return in January and his overall feelings towards the club, after they bottled re signing him.

If he goes running to the Chezzie fans sliding on his knees kissing the badge, perhaps we could finally forget about him and concentrate on getting behind the players who are producing some of the best football we've seen at Bramall Lane since Evans was a schoolboy. Here's hoping ;)
