May as well give Slater a few runouts if Hecky sees him good enough to make the bench.

TBH I was hoping he would get a run out at Preston particularly as Mcgoldrick seems to be on a poor run of form. Just to give the regulars a jolt that places are there to be won.

Bellend now ,but Im not allowed to react ,or Im a twerp ,mardy arse ,irrelevant or any other other delightful insult you dig out of your chest of insults.
At matches most of us dont go round calling each other names ,but you wouldnt know that.

But you do. You're not really bothered about the match or the content of 'My take ... ' are you Sitwell? What really sands up your ladyparts is the fact that I don't - more correctly am unable - to go to football matches. You have no concept of geography or finance, have you? So because of this fact, it is you who think you can censure my opinion. It is that simplistic and ridiculous. You don't disagree with my PoV ... you've never really countered it with an alternative view (like some do) or discussed why you think I am wrong. It's just 'you don't go, but I do so I am teh king, i am'. I could get that if we hadn't watched the same match, but I guarantee that your view of Sander Berge's penalty appeal earlier this season at Bramall Lane (for example) wasn't as good as mine. I saw it from five different cameras, and strangely enough, so did most others. Also, don't forget, your selective, rather idiotic opinion of fans such as me also transposes onto many on here, some even in the Sheffield region, who elect to sit at home and watch the match. So it's not just me you are having menstrual cramps about, is it sweetie? Why don't you fire your splattery arse at them also? Conversely, there are folks who go to most, if not every match who read my write up and either agree, disagree and partake in the general debate and never even mention where or how I watched it or came to my conclusions. So what's your problem, apart from something a liberal amount of nappy cream, some gripe water and a back rub might ameliorate?

I believe that in the Premier League last year he scored more goals and had more assists for the opposition than he did for us.

It's not his overall total since signing for us, it's his current run and it's actually slightly worse than suggested.

Since we were promoted to the PL, Norwood has played 103 times, delivering 2 goals and 2 assists.
With one of those goals being in a cup game

Wow, basically - Mousset has better stats than Norwood and half the team while eating kebabs at home ... Get your head around that!

Someone just text me these. Anyone confirm that it's true?
He was credited with the assist against Fulham. I would say that was an individual goal from Ndiaye.

His previous assist was against Wolves (59 games ago) - July 2020

His previous goal was against Watford (74 games ago) - Dec 2019

League games only. He also got an assist v Plymouth in the FA Cup, January 2021.

In 2018/19 promotion season, he scored 3 and got 9 assists

We haven't had a regular midfield goal scorer since Duffy left.

Duffy = 15 goals, 25 assists in 121 games. A goal contribution every 3.03 games.
Fleck = 14 goals, 45 assists in 227 games. A goal contribution every 3.85 games.
Norwood = 6 goals, 12 assists in 147 games. A goal contribution every 8.17 games.

I might be wrong, but I don't think you like him? 🤣

That's comparing attacking midfielders with defensive midfielders. How about showing total completed passes, interceptions, tackles and blocks?

I'm in the "Norwood in" camp. We're a much worse team when he doesn't play. I'm just showing the stats.

Norwood's assists in that first season were mainly from free kicks just outside the box. This is a part of his game that has fallen off drastically.

Right there, that used to be a deadly position for us...

If he's not contributing going forward then you'd like to think he's shit hot defensively, but how easy does it look for any opposition player with an ounce of mobility to turn and run away from him. Please watch him Saturday, he'll get too tight to a man who'll simply turn out into space and be left floundering. Can we really afford a player (two if he's playing with Hourihane) who contribute nothing going forward and nothing defensively either?

He was absolutely sensational for us for 18 months. His long passing opened up attacking avenues we'd never had and his calm leadership was vital, especially in the promotion run in.

Let's not pretend that he's not contributed

Spot on

I remember a time when a free kick on the right wing about 20-25yrds off the byline gave us optimism and excitement.

His free kicks from that position, Flecks too I should add, we're excellent

The "Toxic Ollie" zone! Those were the days.

I'm in the 'Norwood in' camp as well. But not because he's really good, just that for some reason we struggle without him in the side. It says more about our other players than him in my opinion.

He had a half decent game on Tuesday, but in the first 5 mins he'd let 2 of their midfielders stroll past him. He then started trying to play Hollywood passes, quite a few of which were either cut out or got nowhere near their intended target.

He's by no means our worst player, but the reduction in output from our midfield is one of the major factors in our demise as a team.

I'd also rather have him in the team than Berge, despite his shortcomings at least he tries.

Agree with Carlton he was absolutely unreal when he first arrived. No idea what has happened to him. Another one of our players that appear to have abducted during the first lockdown and replaced with an inferior clone. Has his legs gone or does he only look good in a fully functioning wilderball system. The drop off in a lot of our players and especially Norwood is absolutely baffling. His crosses and set pieces used to be faultless and now they are useless what on earth had happened

This was when we were creating overloads too. Duffy, Fleck + either Basham/Baldock or Stevens/JOC depending what side we were attacking down. Norwood could spray balls all over the place knowing we literally had 3 or 4 players out on the wings.

This isn't helping Norwood's game. He looks up now and has to look around further to find a pass. That picture I posted above was against Villa. That was peak Blades and peak Norwood. The link is here. Just look at the intensity, the number of players showing for the ball, the intricate passing, the overloads 😍

I don't like just using goals and assists to measure effectiveness, in any case he's a midfield player who doesn't really get ahead of the ball, so he's not often going to be in the positions to claim those.

And assists themselves are useless. If he - or anyone - produces a defence splitting pass for a wing back to run onto and send it into the middle for a tap-in then he neither gets the goal nor the assist, but without that contribution there's no goal.

So I agree there was a significant contribution. But we found out - and how - why Fulham and Brighton didn't want to retain him. These days all he contributes is a lot of directional pointing, though none of it in the please-chase-after-this-player-who's-just-stolen-the-ball-from-me manner which would be more useful pointing.

I'm sorry to say his day is over, and we all know he's not alone in that. A shame, but that's the way it is.

His day isn't over IMO within this squad

With some new investment in midfield then yes ...

But there won't be any investment and he will therefore play. When he isn't chosen we tend not to retain the ball or have much inventiveness - MGW & I Ndiaye arent midders

There is a reason Norwood retired front international football a few years ago now he should just retire.
