Nothing against Norwood and Basham who have been great servants but they should have both been released two years ago along with Fleck, Three wages that could be put towards young talent. 2 and 3 year contracts for 30 year olds just doesn’t make any sense to me, should be rolling one year contracts. The times Palace bypassed our midfield yesterday beggared belief. Not their fault but age has caught up with them both. People slag off the Board but the recruitment and retention team need a good bollicking as well in my book.
Norwood was one of our best players last season. Given we are skint, I dread to think who we'd have brought in to replace him a year or two ago.

He'd be better if he has somebody to do the running and hard stuff, just let him spray the ball about.
Agree. He was a calm head and did steady things when he got the ball and play some good passes but he doesn’t have the athleticism to close down the opposition down when don’t have possession.

His short passing game was better than his Hollywood spray yesterday.

I thought he got better second half but as a unit, the midfield were hardly at the races. He wasn’t a calm head chasing around in the first half.

I reckon Norwood, Bash, Ozzy and Fleck are as surprised as the rest of us that they are still here, let alone being in the starting line-up.
Come on guys it's time to call it a day.
all 4 are great 100% lads and been great servants for the club but they really cant be starters in the premier league know circumstances caused this and they all did their best but we have to bring at least 3/4 players in that will be automatic starters

Norwood has always been a great player on the ball and when he gets space and time is quality

But in a game like yesterday where he gets no time and is up against 3 monsters

He has no chance unfortunately every team in the league has that midfield 🤷‍♂️

I've always been a critic of Norwood and never particularly his biggest fan mainly due to his consistent inconsistency, where one game he's in command, the next totally invisible.

For me this comes down to Norwood's role and our formation. He's not an out and out defensive midfielder, he's not an out and out attacking midfielder and he's not a box to box midfielder. His role is pretty much central. When we commit numbers forward and he has runners ahead of him he thrives as he has options for an outlet. When we're under pressure and dropping back deeper into our half, he becomes ineffective as he doesn't track back well, and when he gets the ball he has no options ahead of him to pass to causing him to either give it away or dissappear in games, largely because players panic under pressure and bypass him by hoofing it out of play or up the field.

For me Norwood can thrive alongside Hamer, as he's a box to box midfielder who will track back and do the dirty work, and get forward giving him an option and outlet. For me Norwood can thrive in a four man midfield with him and Hamer in the middle. Think McCall/Brown with Norwood as Macca and Hamer as the Lord.

I made the point the other day that Norwood only has a chance of being effective if he's able to find / is given a very narrow set of circumstances.

That had already stopped happening in the Championship, there's no chance in the PL.

Your point elaborates on this. Ultimately we've got a midfielder who can't track back, doesn't support attacks, cannot be used as a ball-winner (bar the odd tackle/interception, granted), struggles when pressured, doesn't know what to do if he doesn't have unmarked options, can't dribble, and doesn't have a better dead ball success rate than players who aren't specialists.

In summary he's in the team for one reason and unfortunately he's not very good at that any more either.

What we have left isn't a footballer, it's a footgolfer.

I’m sure he would be very welcome at the Greeter’s Guild 😉

Norwood is nowhere near good enough for this league. Nothing against him, he just simply ain't got it - especially playing in a side like us he's a luxury we cannot afford.

Off the ball he is unbelievably poor, doesn't close his man down, constantly caught in no man's land pointing.

Sorry Oli but you've got to go mate.
