It's nice to know everybody is backing the team...….

So far without reading everythinbg this weekend, I've seen threads saying McGoldrick, Norwood abd Lunny aren't good enough.

Amazing really that we got a point at Bournemouth, what with only having 8 players!

As we only have 2 players with any PL experience, we have the rest of the team and the management to question yet.

Still forums are about opinions apparently, no point praising the team when we can question their ability instead.

Of the 3 midfielders Lundstram was the best.

All 3 didn't look fast enough but to be fair grew into the game second

I think it showed yesterday just how fast paced the PL is and I honestly thought our midfield couldn't get close.
Of the 3 Lundstram is definitely most physical and the most athletic.

I've never been a fan of the flat 3 midfield and we did play much better when Freeman came on. It gave us our identity back.

I think as the season goes on Lundstram may take Norwood or Flecks position. I just feel he has the fitness and physical attributes required. Wilder will want to play with a #10 but I feel to do that, Fleck or Norwood will miss out due to Lundstrams attributes.

I've never seen Ravel play but apparently he likes to sit deep now to dictate the game. I wonder if he may end up taking the other CM spot in the long run.

Could we end up like this:

Baldock - Lundstram - Morrison - Stevens
Freeman
This isn't a knock of Fleck or Norwood but first half particularly, I thought they were way off. Not winning aerial duals, not winning physical duals, not beating them for pace.

Only 1st game so a lot to learn from it.

It was worrying though how Baldock and Robinson's pace all of a sudden didn't appear anything special

A bit controversial but I’ve also had similar thoughts regards how the first 11 might change over the season.

Most fans seem to judge players as individuals BUT it’s all about how they are used for the situation they find themselves in.
Several managers have refused to play Norwood in the PL, there must be a reason for that.
Against Bournmouth first half Norwood and Fleck looks a bit lightweight and slow, last 15 minutes when we attacked they looked much better.
Obviously losing Norwood we lose that nice flowing passing game but if Morrison performs at his best then maybe he will be better, who knows.
Lundstrum hasn’t the ability of Norwood or Fleck but he’s much more athletic ,quicker, better engine and a better tackler. Although Besic has these attributes too and might eventually become our 1st choice defensive midfielder.

Was quite impressed with the potential from Freeman in that he was finding space taking up positions which Duffy would find.
Was also quite impressed with Robinson, his pace, workrate and running into space, fairly direct and positive too.

do some of you guys actually realise that you don't have to be actually on the ball to be playing well? a lot of this, especially at this level is about positioning, something Norwood excels at

No never realised that thanks for the heads up. Do you realise that he wasnt postionally perfect like the OP alluded too and that he was wasteful with the ball at times?

true for all players?

Yeh i think your right, i just think norwood gets godly status all the time. There are mistakes in his play and when others make similar mistakes they get scutinised. I think hes a good player but ive seen him play much better. Lunny gets scutinised and i think he had a bigger influence on this game today. For example 3 goal scoring opportunities created.

I think norwood has better ability and technically more gifted but is slow and not as athletic.

Different players doing different jobs. But we got a result against a top half team so can't complain too much.

Exactly my point. What we've learnt under Wilder is that no players place in the team is guaranteed.

I rewatched the game . And second viewing made me appreciate more how well we played. Thought we were the better team over 90 mins. Which is not bad going since it was Bournemouths first game at home. Norwood also played better than I thought. Particular that last 20 mins which I thing got those stats up. Lunny did fine but also went back and sideways a number of times and knocked a couple of Hollywood balls out of play. Dont think any of the 3 in midfield played at there very best

I thought that looked a ropey challenge. Does VAR only check if a yellow should be red? I thought that it would get called back but nothing happened (I don’t think - I was a bit distracted by a baby as I watched it).

They lingered for a while on a great defensive header, Egan I think, to see if somehow it might be a pen, but missed a late studs up lunge that caught a player 100% it wasn’t even a glancing blow.

VAR did review the Fraser challenge

So eventually the midfield 3 will be Besic Morrison Freeman? I could live with that!

is that what dean Hammond used to do then?!
nah he didn’t seem to do anything tbf..
Its amazing the technology we now have in the game to track and show player movements, attached is a heat map for Dean Hammond for the season he played for us....

My worry about Norwood is he wont prove to be either athletic enough or physical enough for the premiership. Hope I'm wrong but I think that's why his previous 2 clubs didnt give him a.chance. No doubting his pinging ability but it could just as easily.be Norwood that Besic replaces as Lunny.

The idea of Norwood on the bench while Lundstram plays. It’s like leaving your Ray Bans at home and just deciding to keep your eyes shut instead.

The reality is that players do loads of stuff that many fans aren't interested in. Lunny put a challenge in on one of their players in the first half in our penalty area. He'd probably chased that guy for 40 or 50 yards to be in that position to make that challenge. I don't pay my money to see that, or to see Norwood put tackles and interceptions.

I pay my money to see Norwood ping it 70 yards into Basham's path as he tears down the wing to put a cross in and make a chance.

Unseen work is important. Madkins comments about Hammond were daft because it was obvious that Hammond's legs had gone. He did a lot of running about but never did anything effective. Norwood and Lunny are a very different prospect alltogether

Premier League suits him. That pass in particular was something you’d see from de Bruyne and shared everywhere on social media. Need to keep him fit, he keeps us ticking

Another majestic performance from Norwood today after an uncharacteristic jitter early on. It's amazing that he has never been given a fair shot at this level but I am grateful he slipped through the Brighton and Fulham nets and right into ours.

If Lunny hadnt scored itd have been a tighter margin for MOTM.
