Norwich players...

That’s the point, even after a full season in the top league they haven’t improved but appear to have got worse. Confidence obviously is shot, but we can’t afford to get players in who need a year or two to learn how to play the Wilder way.
We need players who can come in and do the job, pretty much straight away after a pre season and a few months of friendlies and early season games.

I agree.

And, I'd add another to that list.

This guy...

Marco Stiepermann.

I've been impressed with him when I've seen him play and I think he'd be good competition for McBurnie. Another big target man who can also play a bit. Downside is maybe his age, 29, but if we could get him for a reasonable sum then I think he could do a job.

My preference though would be to go and get this guy, from Fulham.

Aleksander Mitrovic.

24 goals for Fulham this season in the Championship. Somehow though I think he'll cost an absolute fortune and other big clubs will be bidding for him.
Steiperman competition for mcburnie?

Yes, possibly. On McBurnie's current form he wouldn't get a look in - I appreciate that, but he's still a very good player and if was available for the right money then I think it would be a no brainer.

I could have said, "back up", but I don't think we should be signing any players as "back up" - that's not how we improve the team - and it's not Wilder's way of thinking either.

Stiepermann is a midfielder isn’t he?

Yea. A decent championship midfielder but nothing more than that.

Interesting thread, seen a lot of posts saying they’d only take Cantwell and Buendia from them. I agree, but I would also put an offer in for Godfrey. He has got loads of potential and likes having the ball at his feet. By the time Bash calls it a day (appreciate it’s at least couple of seasons away yet!) I really do think he would be the perfect replacement in his position.

Look how many of our current heroes were considered “not good enough” and “rejects”:
  • Fleck, not good enough for Coventry
  • Bash - written off by us in the dark days of Lg1
  • Coutts - transfer listed
  • Norwood - rejected by multiple clubs when they reached the Prem
  • McGoldrick - released by Ipswich and had to trial with us
Etc.
Don’t underestimate the power of good coaching, a clear philosophy and a set system of play. Our collective is greater than its individual parts and there’s certainly some talent available from Norwich - given the work, I’m sure CWAK could unlock it and realise it’s full potential.

Total faith in CW and AK. They have proved numerous times that they can spot and coach a player. Any player coming to United without the right work ethic and attitude will not get first team time. We are not in need of any major surgery and new players will be improvements that will either push first team players to better things or gradually replace them.

I really think we will only buy one or two players, fortunately after four years Chris has put us in that enviable position.

A third of those times he was doing it because we were playing them. The others he might have been looking at the opposition (possibly)
He could have possibly gone to the wrong stadium doing a reccy on kylian mbappe

Norwich have had a total loser's mentality from minute one of this season. In the summer they barely signed anyone and barely tried. The manager has spent the season saying how wonderful his boys have played when they've been getting spanked 4 or 5-0, and worst of all the loser fans seem to lap it all up. They are on an even financial keel with us, for example. I can't even comprehend having that much of a loser mentality ingrained within a club. Fucking Norwich.

That’s a great point.
It’s been stated before the season started that “it doesn’t matter that much if Norwich are relegated because they will be financially stable in the Championship. So they will keep Farke and the same players and be strong challengers for promotion again. It was mentioned that they like the idea of the Burnley way....not taking any risks on promotion....take the money...then build for a 2nd quick promotion when they return to the Championship.

It’s almost like their relegation is a deliberate tactic.

Please don't fill their heads with that.

Their fans have even been arguing over whether this is a sensible attitude. It's one thing if they've decided they haven't got the money to strengthen but giving up before a ball is kicked is another thing all together.

Meanwhile, you see Wilder after losing a game to Liverpool and he wasn't interested in talking up his plucky try-hards, he was bemoaning that we'd given up a point with a keeping error. And weirdly the media were saying his attitude was wrong for that. But Wilder has a winner's mentality. It's not that he doesn't credit players for playing well, it's that he believes in his side's ability to get results.

More annoying to me still is that I keep hearing the narrative that Norwich play excellent attacking football. They've scored fewer goals than anyone. I mean, if they'd gone full Kevin Keegan and been trading goals but losing 4-3 every week, I'd get it. They haven't though. If you don't even score goals then how can you pretend to be an attacking team let alone be playing good football?

When Adrian Durham ranted about "sentimental bull" and teams not taking the Prem seriously, he had the right attitude just entirely the wrong target.

A friend of mine taught Cantwell at primary school. He was an arrogant little dickhead even at 9 years old apparently.

Isn’t it the case with Norwich that prior to promotion they were a financial shambles and very much in danger of some serious problems.
Promotion has saved them from danger and provided a level of economic security.
It looks like they’ve been burnt so bad during previous top flight visits and relegations that they were very reluctant to spend big during this campaign and instead pocket the Prem money.
Unfortunately for them, this conservative attitude has bled down to the manager and squad and created a defeatist attitude.
I can understand the manager making reference to this because he’s got a reputation to protect and doesn’t want the finger of blame pointing at him.
It can’t be easy being part of a squad that are continually being told that they aren’t good enough to compete.
There’s clearly some talent there and I can see some of them thriving under the right manager and in a less toxic and negative environment.

Exactly. They don't score goals and they don't even create many chances, so what exactly does this 'attacking football' consist of? Getting the ball over the halfway line?

To be fair they did start the season this way. Their early results included losing 4-1 to liverpool and 3-2 to Chelsea, then beating Newcastle 3-1 and Man City 3-2. The kind of results you'd expect from a top-heavy but defensively weak team.

But that's pretty much it. After the man city game they basically started getting comfortably beaten every week, with little response or fight in return.

Yeah from what I remember they need this seasons prem money to pay the debts from last time they got relegated

It’s a really tough one when your gambling with the future of the club - spend and gamble stability against survival, or pocket the cash and try your chances again at promotion next year

Norwich have some great individual players, no team cohesion at this level though & never built any momentum.

Aarons, Lewis, Godfrey, Cantwell, etc will all have suiters.

If true, they will be in a great position next season then.
Probably the only Championship club with no debt.

But he's not a striker
I’m going to play the old farts card now and say Billy Dearden wasn’t a centre forward when we signed him from Chester City. He was a right winger. But we converted him.

You’re right of course, Stiepermann is classed as an attacking midfielder, but at 6’3” with an eye for goal I think he could easily play that role.

You have to think outside the box see? 😉

Surely staying up and becoming financially stable are not mutually exclusive. Wilder wouldn't have praised his team after getting a bumming every week through preventable errors. I said when we beat them at home that if the fans and manager were happy to accept that dross then they would get that every week. The bizarre thing is that Norwich fans seem to think that they are a decent team. Their defence is horrendous and their attack is not much better. It is only the fact that the other teams near the bottom have been so bad that saved them from being relegated by Easter.

Should miss our game. Likely to be banned. Been caught on camera spitting

Out for 6 games
