Spot on. Any young players assessed to be better than their first team counterpart should just go straight in to the team for me. Their ability will soon show. Players don't gain any ability or 'get better' by being sent on loan. They have a certain potential ability level specific to them that remains constant and comes to the forefront given game time.
Matty Harriott could’ve been so much better for example if he’d had a run in the side. He was a serious talent.

Definitely. Leeds have done brilliantly giving their young ens a go as soon as they’re ready, we seem to try to teeth them in little by little in recent years

A Leeds player was the best outfield player on the pitch in the first half tonight.

Obviously you can't draw too many conclusions from a brief appearance in a friendly ;) but I'm surprised Leeds aren't giving him a chance especially as they're weak up front.

I doubt we will. There's generally a mis-placed sense of hesitation regarding young players and the first team. Players are too often sent out on loan or sat on the bench for a season or two when really they ought to be in the thick of it.
How many can you name, given every season there may be many examples?

There are loads of youngsters every season both in the EFL and Premier League that either sit on the bench or go out on loan. I'm just making the point that often they'd be better off given a chance in the first team.

I thought you were talking about us, sorry.

Great player. I’d say he’d be good competition for ES & DL but then again you’d need to average a 3/10 46 games a season to be better than them. No surprise neither Ireland’s do owt when them two useless cunts are getting picked.

Dare I say its a position more tolerant to a risky selection than, say one of the back 3? Stevens definitely went off the boil last year, but i can't remember it costing us directly too often (Snodgrass maybe?). If the lad has potential, he's competing against 2 first teamers of which neither has staked a proper claim for the shirt yet.

He was too precious about his own performance. Lovely footballer but would get rid of the ball putting a teammate in trouble rather than take responsibility. Reminiscent of James Harper at BL. Where is he now?

Last I heard I think he’d gone abroad

James Harper is working at Manchester airport

He's at Wilmington Hammerheads in one of the semi-pro USA leagues.

Wouldn't it be best to...

Give Norrington-Davies a new 4 year contract.

Send him out on loan to L1.

Sign a capable attacking LWB on loan.

Sell Lafferty.

Then reassess in January or at the end of the season?

I’d agree with that but in an ideal world, keep Lafferty for another season as a squad player (although #wages).

Wilder 100% said ND And Slater would be going out on loan once we signed cover.

He did however also refer to the Brooke’s situation last summer where he was about to join Chezzie but stayed.

One thing people are over looking here is Heneghan has been moved out leaving us short at Left CB. Without knowing I presume Lafferty is being kept on to provide cover there rather than LWB I recall he played CB a few times last season and looked good.

Think RND and Stevens will be competing for the LWB spot now

Think our full backs are one of our strongest positions, thought RND did well when he came on.. after he whipped 2 crosses in and we obviously scored off one it seemed the others had confidence in him to give him more of the ball

What a load of bollocks .....

Of course young players get BETTER by going on loan. By playing against experienced stronger players each week a young players understanding of the game makes them BETTER.
Playing in front of bigger crowds makes them BETTER.

Why on earth do you think clubs send young players out on loan?

Been saying for a while at the U23 games how good a player he is and glad he’s producing it in flashes on the pitch.

For me RND will be an excellent LWB but not sure how he would cope in LG2 as a left back on the pitches down there. He is an excellent player with a bright future.

Stick him on the bench vs Swansea, a team he’d be highly motivated to do well against.

I haven’t caught RND in our U23s, but he’s been impressing in the Wales U21s – he apparently had a decent game in the last friendly vs Georgia. It remains to be seen how Giggs is going to deploy Ben Davies, but if he continues at LCB that might open the path to a possible LWB position if he can break through into regular club football.

Let’s slow down he’s played a few pre season games and your on about him being in Welsh squad.

Yep, made the same suggestion about Brooks a year ago. Obviously there’s a lot he has to do, my point was more general about there being a pathway potentially open to him if he’s good enough – the emphasis being very much on if he’s good enough. He’s already involved in the Welsh set-up – they will already be noting who’s performing well under Page with an eye to the senior squad, it’s what they do.

Also, Wales often play the long game with these youngsters - giving promising players caps very early to secure their allegiance.
