We find yet another script to disappoint our fans after lifting them for 94 minutes only to drop them like stones as per usual.

I never like to see any side play with 10 men behind the ball but I suppose it's justifiable for a League 1 side to do it at Old Trafford. For 93 minutes we did it well but let's not kid ourselves it's something on which to build for our promotion campaign, you need to win games to win promotion.

Today we fielded an experienced side with a number of players who have played at much higher levels. Neutrals will have watched the game and wondered how we are only 8th in League 1. They will presume we can play a different way against lesser opposition and we can, but not well enough. We simply do not create enough danger going forward and have eventually settled for this team which grinds games out instead of winning them. Anyway, that's a point for some other time.

Today we suffered a new, devastating script and a different way of us fans getting kicked in the janglers.

93rd minute and our on loan Premier League player, our most highly paid player and the man heralded by our manager as a "winner" and a "model pro" completely loses his senses and dives into a challenge in a corner of the penalty area near the bye-line when we were well covered in the middle anyway.

Hopkins injury time winner in the Palace Play-Off Final , 23 penalties v Huddersfiled in the Play-Off Final, Givens penalty v Walsall, Ched Evans and the ridiculous SW run-in, , Webber hitting the post v Wigan added to the Tevez affair , the two penalties Dean didn't give us v Burnley in the Play-Off final etc. etc.

Today we found another script and today's game was relatively unimportant compared to those above but any young Blade watching today - Get used to it !!

A script is exactly how today felt. I barely batted an eyelid when the penalty was given. I just thought "ah well this is what happens, it's United". Too many battle scars for me to be devestated by defeat anymore. My first thought at the final whistle was Wigan on Tuesday night.
On to the next and carry on regardless.

so , theres never been any good days while youve watched United ,,,, ever
considering theres only 4 or 5 clubs realistically can win the prem now
and those same 5 share the fa cup 18 years out of 20, chances of winning a big ones dropprd immensely for 87 league clubs

I went and I didn't feel like that. I imagine others felt the same way.

I know what you mean WHF and if it had been a young lad who had done what Hammond did then it would be more acceptable and understandable. That's what I find totally baffling. The man who has played in successful teams throughout his career and who the manager was holding up as "the man" long before he actually joined us goes and loses his head and flies into a challenge when there was no need whatsoever. If he had been in front of goal and just preparing to shoot then all well and good but he was not, nowhere near.

On reflection it may have something to do with the Peterborough winner last week when he stood off and took a dummy.

Did you really read that above?

But as posted elsewhere afaict Hammond hit Depay with all the force of an adoring grandparent patting a newborn gently on the head.

A bit OTT to compare a loss in a 3rd round cup tie to those ridiculous relegation's and missed promotions?

I agree it was unfortunate but on the Devastation Scale more like a 6/10 than a 10/10

I agree, but I always feel that in the end, United will let us down, that's what makes the good times sweeter. When it got to injury time (and 6 minutes of it), I consciously thought that was plenty of time to concede and so it proved. The painful bit was the dodgy pen aspect.

I'm sorry but you are some sort of drug user if you think there is any glory in supporting the Blades. I'm my time we have won 4th Division championship. That is it. That is what is in the cabinet. We have found new ways of snatching defeat from victory.

As the OP alludes to we did it again. It's a curse that surrounds us. We are kings of failure. From Seamans last minute save to Hopkins last minute goal, to being 2-1 up at half time in the cup semi but losing 5-3, losing in extra time against Liverpool, getting hammered by Wolves, robbed against Burnley, to a glorious 5-5 draw away from home that ultimately saw us go out of the play offs. Oh and our leading scorer going to Prison while his back up got injured at the same time.

If anyone wonders why we are a cynical bunch who expect defeat then look at the above.

It doesn't mean we suport any the less but don't tell me it's a great experience because it fucking isn't.

On 71 minutes last night, I turned to my two grandsons and said "We're going to lose this 1-0, with the scorer being Rooney, It's the Blades way."

Tomorrow night is far more important than an FA Cup exit.

Of course and I said so in the O.P.

As painful as it was losing like that, its a blessing in disguise. A replay under the lights at BDTBL would have been great yes and we really would've had a chance to turn them over but, its another game in an already congested second half of season. Promotion has to be our no. 1 priority

Without wanting to sound critical of United. Has any club ever taken they're supporters right to the brink of success so many times then fail at the last as United have? Play off campaigns including 4 finals where we haven't even scored a goal never mind won, 2 league cup semis where we have genuinely dreamt of Wembley only to have it snatched away at the death. 4 FA cup semi finals where we have either not turned up or battled fantastically only to be beaten at the death or by world class saves. Promotion campaigns where our arch rivals have pipped us at the death. The biggest football team to win nothing since the war.
Yes we have had some magic moments but it can be very cruel being a blade at times. I doubt too many clubs as big as us have suffered so often

But think of the money we could have made to re-invest in a new toilet block on the kop

i can understand the OP's frustration.. we all should. give him a break
anyway.. Wigan next.. fuck 'Manchester' ;)

Not picking on anyone here trigg, just using your post to say something.
I would rather we got to these points in our history, and fail, than not reach any highs at all. Our time will come, a few of us may not be around, but it will happen. UTB.

heh.. indeed.. some of us are worried that we won't be still here to see it though! :D

I couldn't agree more and even ultimate failure gives us great results along the way, all those cup wins in the last two seasons for starters. It's the final hurdle that's the problem. Penultimate really, because if we get to a final, it would be nice to win it.

As we walked away from the Spurs home game last season, I made the throwaway remark that I was running out of time to see us in a Wembley final and Trig Jnr (TY)'s g/f spent some time trying to convince that I wasn't old and there'd be loads more chances......:-)

Tell you mate, over 50yrs supporting, and I can still taste and smell the old Kop like it was yesterday. Goes too quick.

It was a third round fa cup tie away at the most succesful club in English football history
to get beaten in injury time . with a penalty isnt failure

wendies going to man city and conceding 7 goals in 42 second half minutes is failure

It's a shame some feel the need to be overly negative after last night's efforts.

I was just relieved we got through the first five minutes without conceding. Every minute that ticked by was a bonus until they would inevitably score. We made it to half time, a victory in itself! Then 60 minutes then 80. We couldn't could we? 3 minutes to go, 2 minutes, one, 90 minutes without conceding, if we could just hold on. I watched the clock at the far end all game, well I watched the game a bit as well. 6 minutes added time!!!! The inevitable of course did happen. Sigh.....

Nearly there but no cigar! :(

He's not being negative. He's telling himself he was right all along. Because no one else will.

Doesnt like the cup, wonder if he was at the last three semi finals?
