No Standing In The Stands

It's a good job a few on here don't support the likes of Leeds, Derby, Wolves, Cardiff, Boro, Villa etc where everyone stands for 90 minutes behind at least one of the goals.
As long as the others who are unable to stand for so long , know which stand it is then they can avoid paying to go in there & go in the one they can sit & watch the match in comfort with an unrestricted view.

I remember going to see a stripper, watched her prance about the stage for what seemed ages, then she removed her red silk underwear to reveal !!!!!!!!!
I will never know what she revealed as every as every plonka in front of me stood up & I saw naff all.

When I started watching the Blades in the 60's everyone knew there position in life, the young lads & lower classes went behind the goal, shouted rude things about the referee & his lack of a father, threw bog rolls at the opposition players, while the middle management & above sat in the stands & would politely clap if the Blades scored.

Please remember the people behind you
Pervert!

The paying bit is important as if it was a standing only club their income would be slashed by half. And can you imagine having supported your club for 50 years & then being physically unable to carry on going. If it was us we would be gutted.

Good grief this old chestnut. Please if you don't like people getting excited at a football match and getting to their feet. DO NOT get a seat on the kop.

If you are a total knob head that loves shouting 'sit down' the kop is not for you. The kop should have no seats at all, so please please sit in the other stands..

You'll go far on here. Keep posting.

:)

It's like the under thirties, freakishly tall (over 5'8") who moan about their knees now. Well if your knees are struggling at your age, in thirty years time you'll be a miserable old bastard who can't stand for 90 minutes.

So stick that in your Spice pipe (.? ) and dance around with your trolleys around your ankles on Fargate.

I thought safe standing was a given now and was going to be rolled out across the land?

It does make sense to reintroduce standing to certain sections of the ground. Lower Bramall Lane and the rear center of the Kop make sense As others have said, if you don't like standing to watch use the other stands. There'd need to be some juggling of ticket prices to suit. Standing should be cheaper and if you're getting people to move because they prefer not to stand, then they should be able to get an equivalent view for the same price as now..

Why should it be cheaper? There is a cost to it in the first place and then a loss of revenue for the club.

If we introduce rail seating on the kop and somebody managed to unlock the seat in order to sit for a short time, in a crazy about turn there'd be cries of "stand up you twat"

Presumably, the capacity would increase - standing takes less room than seating - so the club could charge less per person, but get more people in, offsetting the loss of the per-seat price. Win win.

It's not that simple. Just because
there's an increase in capacity doesn't mean more people will come. That's dependent on what happens on the pitch.

If it's £20 to sit now and the club opens a standing section of say 5000 at £15 and fills it with existing fans there's a reduction in income of £25k per game. So on top of the renovation costs the club are around half a million quid a season down. To just cover that loss of turnover, an extra 1250 or so "new" attendees ( at £20) are needed per game and the cost of installation are still footed by the club in full.

A simple example but Where's the win win?

Fair enough, a good point, well raised. As your example shows, the maths need factoring in, but I'm sure the improved atmosphere, combined with lower gate prices and the recent upturn in performances on the pitch would have a net increase in attendance figures. But yes as you point out, it's not a black and white scenario.

PM me SB, I’ve a pretty good idea what it was you missed, but it’s not for discussion on an open forum. ;)

I tried standing in the front room watching the World cup ,it was crap.

If he didn't know enough to stand up to look, more detail would be wasted on him. :)

Unnatural to sit down at football. Unless you’re disabled of course.

I’ve been stood up on back of kop for years and stand up away (obviously). Last time I sat down was Stoke in a friendly last year near back of south stand. It’s impossible to sit with the shit leg room even though I’m 5’9.

The whole argument about standing up in stands has entered the realms of farce. The reason for seating was because it was safer than standing. So we end up with people standing in a seating area which is a lot less safe than it was originally. Every fucker who stubbornly opposes safe standing areas should have this pointed out to them when they dig their heels in on the subject and asked why they don't agree to the "safer" standing option, which is the whole fucking point of the exercise.

I reckon we should bring back safe seating, every time I get up from my seat on the kop I have fuckin back ache.

How many have actually objected to the idea?

Everyone who opposes safe standing. Presumably safety groups, police, councils, government, even the clubs themselves. I couldn't be arsed trawling the internet to give you names but its there if you want to look.
