The managerial appointment has got to be someone nuetral to the lane full stop.
No ex players,no ex managers,no ex wendy connections.
If they are connected then we know it will be a cheapo decision.
Anyone that has some nous please-no ex`s for Godsake.

funny this, it's like when we appoint an England manager after Sven and said, "its got to be an English bloke", then we got McClaren then we wanted a foreigner and got Capello then had to have English again and got Hodgson, none of them have down owt! so for me i'd rather not rule out a whole lot of people just cos of 'ex's' connections, I wanna be open minded about getting the right man.

I agree. Connections to the club shouldn't be a consideration. They should neither rule anybody out or in because of them. Look at who the best person for the job is. Leave it at that.
 
For a lot of blades fans The best chance we have of getting someone decent is if they have some kind of affinity or love for the club
Otherwise why the fuck would they take the job ??
Youre not going to improve your standing in the game by working on a budget well below the expectations of the supporters , if by some miracle yiu did build a winning team then come january the owner will do his utmost to break it up

On top of all that you have a morgue like atmosphere in front of a half empty stadium and its easy to see why ex blades are welcomed with open arms

As I said in another thread the two key ingredients of a football fan are acohol and nostalgia .take them away and y oure left with not very much at all

Quite true - but as for the atmosphere - we were reminded, albeit briefly, for 2 games at the end of the season that BDTBL can still be a really atmospheric ground. Excite the fans and they will get behind you, bore them shitless and they will fall asleep.

Exactly, but that analysis does not differ one jot by reference to whether the player/manager has been here before.

A newcomer could easily excite. Some returning "heroes" we could all name would undoubtedly anaesthetise.

Agreed - I just want the best man for the job. My only point was that our fans aren't completely comatose - Wilson just put us there for a while.

Best manager at BDTBL in my time came from Chester with no connection whatsoever with the club, and the manager during our highest finish came to us from Watford and his only connection to the club was that he'd flogged us a few of their players.

I can still remember the shock at seeing the headline in The Star, something along the lines of 'Blades go for Bassett' or 'Its Basett'.

Was so gutted and so wrong.

Simple, I don't care what their connection so long as they are considered the best man for the job purely based on ability. Should be exactly the same criteria for players. If your good enough your past connections don't matter.

I was thinking along more cultured tactics and individual skill with collective positive attitude in every match. Still, when you've half a team of Jason Bents that may be a step too far.
