Twirlo seems to change his mind dependent upon which way the wind blows. Is he Alan Nixon?

Interesting from Blades Analytics who, I’m sure, is not an attention-seeker and closer to affairs than most:

I am no in the know on blades whatsoever and quite frankly save wit most aren't as cw will only deal with selected people we are one of hardest clubs for a journo to know our movements until after event. I do however do some profiling for some agencies and therefore get little snippets here and there. I can tell you the list is much longer than hogan and Fletcher and I'd expect at least 1 striker in tomorrow. Who is up in air. Wilder isn't lying. 1 deal sets off 4 its utter madness.

For what it's worth, I think we'll at least sign Johnson.

But regarding agents, it really is absolutely disgusting. They make sure as much as possible is left to the deadline so they can extort the fuck out of everybody. It's crooked and it fucking stinks.

But there's no point acting like victims and pretending we're blameless. We knew exactly what to expect.
So, this signing players before selling Brooks (I actually thought we did but......) ;

Who covers the extra losses if we don’t end up getting the right money for him?

It’s made to sound like such an obvious choice, but you should be clear and state that it involves people, who are already losing lots of money, losing even more money.

I know the masses will agree with you, but it’s once again the policy of the magic money tree.

He says his source is Wilder's close pals who he knocks about with, and sometimes Wilder himself on Sundays.

I'm not convinced by much of it tbh. Get the impression he got told a few bits and now revels in the attention.

Wilder does not even tell Wit, subsequently doubt a friend of a friend will know anything. Info from BDTBL is very difficult to receive, the only way is if it is leaked from the other club or agents.

The simple answer there is that you'd know exactly the sort of fee for Brooks before selling him, with the deal possibly even pre agreed.

“Sort of” is rather dubious though - possibly a £5m range?

“Pre agreed” suggests these things don’t fall through, or the players never get injured. And that it will wait until you’ve signed the players (most of which want to wait until the deadline for the best deal).

Fact is, it’s very easy to speculate (with other people’s money) about how deals can be constructed. I very much doubt you’ve unearthed some risk free type of deal that the club just hasn’t thought of.

If Bournemouth we're willing to pay £12m before July, you could very confidently go with 'minimum £10m'.

If he got injured, wait for the injury to clear up before selling. Then if it means waiting till the next window, there could be the big bonus of increased value, as I'm sure would've been the case with Brooks.

1. That’s as it should be in my view. Personally I’d prefer he didn’t tell his mate either.

2. Not surprised there are other targets. Rather confounds one or two on here who think we have tunnel vision and should sign the players they recommend whether the manager wants them or not. He should want these players, of course, because they say so...

3. Thanks for reply. I wasn’t suggesting you had ITK at the club (you said you hadn’t the other day and unlike some, I listen as well as speak) but might be ‘closer to affairs’ as I put it, through your inevitable connections.

Twirlo’s ITK status just got downgraded to “must try harder” level  UTB

And so continues the Wilder/Sheffield United tradition of "we aren't signing anyone, but we actually are."

Better than the fax machine tradition i suppose. Panic averted.

...but you'd have been wrong! :D

Quite right. The sneaky bstards.

I went to bed last night, woke up this morning and half expected us to have signed a plethora of players.

So I've now learnt two valuable lessons:

1) don't assume all business is done and finished on transfer deadline day after the theatrical deadline has passed.

2) try and use the word 'plethora' in sentences. It is very under used and I like it.
