No matter the division we are in next year...

this is the big worry if we get to the premier league the majority of this squad are simply not good enough and if we cant bring at least 8 players in this summer im resigned to the fact we would be absolute certs to come back down
Stuck on pal, might even have a nibble at Derby's record points tally.

I think Norwood played last night as we have 3 games in 8 days. I expect us to go with Doyle and McAtee again v Cardiff at the weekend.

We were the better team until Laurel and Hardy fucked it up then there was only going to be one result.

I agree with the suggestions of a 'Norwich approach' next season. Avoid the massive transfer fees and wages and build sensibly with younger players who can be the foundation of the team going forward. Use the Premier League riches to right the balance sheet and build the infrastructure needed to support a top 25 club for the next decade.

If that means we go straight back down so be it. That's got to be better than the future we are looking at if we don't go up which will be a result of the last time we went up and spent silly money on average players.

Unfortunately a lot of those players on that list I’ve already said need to be thanked for there service to our club , the journey they brought us on from 3rd to Prem , and back again, and for their own good and our fond memories be eased out from our club , otherwise there time here will be remembered for what they did now
Not the 100 point season
Bouncing day
Top 10 finish in the Prem
But for shite like Luton / Millwall
Thank you for your service to our club but goodbye

You’re right, but when they’re up against the best teams who will be pressing them they’re too slow to move the ball. If we’re to be promoted then this will cost us. They both need replacing.

No question we need strengthening notably if promoted but whether we have the funds, probably not

It's curious how many people suddenly had an interest in the type stats they usually shoot down. The same metrics have Watford's João Pedro as the Championship POTY and Max Lowe as the most successful tackler in the division.

I couldn't give a shit about completing 90% of passes at home to Reading etc, I want him to stand up and be counted in a tough game when he's needed.

If he's one of the best defensive and attacking midfielders in the league, why was he dropped for a relatively inexperienced teammate who isn't yet a specialist in the same role? And why have we been much better since he was dropped? Surely even on a bad day one of the best midfielders in the league is able to still do enough to keep the shirt?

Do you disagree that we're a weaker team with Norwood in it? Doyle and Berge had to be compromised to accommodate him last night and McAtee had to be left out altogether. In return we got absolutely nothing. Shouldn't one of the supposed best midfielders in the division offer something, even on a bad day?

Also quote me the graph that shows whether he came over the fans at full time.
Can't speak for other people, but I always appreciate the stats. João Pedro is and has been top class, so dunno why that would seem strange.

I talked about his tackling and interceptions this season, you say you don't care about pass completion in a specific game. Ok then. He offers the team loads, objectively.

Why was he dropped? We all know the answer, poor team form for which he was a part, and we have a brilliant player to replace him with. No brainer. The team is now playing better due to Doyle and Baldock and so they all look better for it.

Are we a better team without him in it? Not sure, you could use stats to try and answer and I'm not sure what it would say.

I went last night and to lots of away games, and going over to the fans is important to me. Many people recognised that he stopped doing it as much when he had fans calling him a cunt and screaming other abuse at him during and after games. It's a shame.

I can accept that we aren't going to win every game no matter which division we're in. Middlesbrough at home for example we were just beaten by a better team on the night whereas last night we beat ourselves courtesy of Wes and Robinson's pub league style cock up.

We were well in the game up to then and I honestly don't think that Burnley are that good, they're simply better than the shite in this division and we handed it to them on a plate. The key is maintaining composure in adversity and we didn't manage to do it well enough for long enough last night.

The fact that Luton, who are nothing more than Wrexham with bells on, are third says all we need to know about the league this season.

Some of the execution from other members of the squad left little to be desired and was another benchmark for us to see where we need to improve next season where we need at least 5 players who can go straight into the starting 11 and, if fit, play every week if we're going to at least put up a fight next season if we go up.

Loanees might go back alongside players out of contract so we're potentially losing Clark, Doyle, McAtee, Sharp, Fleck, Wes, Norwood, Stevens, Robinson, Osborn, McBurnie, Coulibaly and Jebbison.

Of these, the only ones we'd miss would be Doyle, McAtee and McBurnie (22/23 edition). Robinson gets stuck in but last night showed that he's still got a big mistake in his locker. Wes has served us well but can he do the job at the highest level - again last night showed that he might not be able to. Jebbo has plenty of potential but if we go up, how much game time will he get if he stays with us? Norwood can put a ball on a sixpence but won't be able to keep up with the pace next season. He was cut adrift by Brighton and Fulham and I think we might have to do the same this time around.

As good a servants they have been, players decline and these players are not good enough anymore to play at a top end championship never mind relegation battling premier league sides;

From tonight:

Norwood
Sharp
Davies
Robinson

You can add to that:

Stevens
Osborn
Brewster
JOC
Fleck
Was going to start a similar thread.

If we go up this season and to have a chance of staying up then we need 2/2/2/2

2 Goalkeepers
2 Central defenders
2 Midfielders
2 Strikers

NGE for the prem and should be let go or be fringe players at best:

Fodders
Davies

Basham
Egan
Robbo

Fleck
Norwood

Sharp

I would like to think that Bogle and Lowe could improve so we could keep:

Anel
Bogle
Lowe
Baldock
RND
Berge
Doyle (purchase?)
Mcatee (loan)
Osborn
Ndiaye
Jebbo
McB
Brewster

So the above plus a few young uns with the extra 8 players should be a good start.

I’m not so sure we’ll let that many go, but do think we are on a similar train of thought so to speak.

GK: ??, Wes, Davies
DEF: Egan, Anel, ??(LCB), Baldock, RND, Robbo, Lowe, Bogle, ??(RCB), Basham
MID: Berge, Doyle(P), ??, Norwood, McAtee(L), Osborn, ??,
ST: Ndiaye, ??, Jebbo, McB, Brewster

XI
??
Baldock, Anel, Egan, ??, Lowe
Berge, Doyle, ??
Ndiaye
??

Bench
Wes
Robbo
McAtee
Norwood
Bogle
RND
McB
Jebbo
Brewster
Osborn

It’s the 4 positions highlighted that I’d like to see (the bulk of) our budget spent on (5 with Doyle)

No question we need strengthening notably if promoted but whether we have the funds, probably not
Worrying factor is though if we do go up can fans stand the pain of watching us get thumped every week, I found the second season difficult to watch, yes take the money but is this what footballs all about now!! It's becoming soul destroying sadly.

We might as well be shit in the Prem as shit in the Championship.
Staying down means 20 players leave, whatever money comes in gets us out of the immediate shit but there's no way any Championship standard players are coming in.

Going up means 20 players leave and they are replaced with the "average" that the Championship has to offer and we go down with an average Championship team.

Congratulations United, another first, for the first time in footballs history you've even managed to make a promotion season wank and provided nothing from it to be looked forward to.
Have you ever had anything positive to say about United?

Woke up this morning and read this thread. Thought I was starting with dementia, but went to check the League table, and it appears we are still second in the League, with a handful of games left. I was worried that I had forgotten that we were in a relegation battle. If we manage promotion this season, I reckon I will have seen United promoted about 10 times in 69 seasons; some promotions have been better than others, but it seems bizarre not to enjoy a promotion challenge over the season. It will be annoying if we miss out, but a challenge for promotion and a Cup Semi-final is about as good as it gets…

Fuck me enjoy the Moment ffs , lets celebrate WITH THE PLAYERS THAT'S ALL BUT GOT US PROMOTED when it comes our way, before we shoot em all .
A lot of football is about TEAMS , that why they call it a football team , and comradeship and moral . Look what we had in the 1st year with Wilder we got up to 7th . The Scabs have proven that you just can't spunk money and expect to automatically stop in the prem !

I personally i not bothered about next season yet , if / when we win promotion i just want to thank the players background staff , and the MANAGER who has done an outstanding job .

To be honest if he gets us up , (when) Hecky can do whatever he wants for me as to regards of players coming and going i trust him !
