Very poor tonight but remember we lost to Barnet last season and looks even worse ! Thought Ravel played well and deserved his MOTD (best of a bad bunch)
 



It was exactly like the Barnet game to begin with. Sloppy defensive complacency. Very different game if Armstrong scores the pen.

There were a number of times where I thought 'he doesn't do that if it's a league game' and that explains a lot.

The midfield selections helped make it the disjointed performance it was. Not a good balance and a bit of a waste to have Ravel and Besic start their first game in those circumstances.

Blackburn had a strong side out and have a lot of good players so don't underestimate the part that played either. They should have won the game really.

Mousset was a positive. He looked sharp and quick with the ball.

Ravel was always going to get MOTM because so many people have a hard on for him. Maybe a bit of a reality check for them. Superb foul though.
 
Chill art. We’ve got a second side capable of beating what could well be a top half Championship side come the end of the season, even on an off day. Imagine if that was a game the players were actually bothered about? It must be tough getting yourself up for a nothing match like that. No one would be moaning if we’d just beaten them 2-1 in a behind closed doors friendly.
 
All in all a pretty woeful performance. We looked lethargic and too many players well off there game tonight and surprisingly those who you wouldn’t expect to be. On the plus side it gave good game time for Morrison, Osborn, Besic and Mousett who looked lively when he came on. We deserved nothing (did we have any other efforts on target?) if truth be known but we are in the hat for the next round and I’m sure the same players will be given a chance to redeem themselves.
Credit Blackburn who pressed us well and had a decent game plan though after they scored they didn’t really trouble us. I wouldn’t call it embarrassing. Just very disappointing but it’s not the end of the world
 
Think it’s obvious who went just for the loyalty points tonight.

In fairness, I went expecting a pre season type performance and that’s exactly what we got first half.First half Blackburn just wanted it more than us they were quicker to everything and we were lucky to be in front at half time let alone by 2. Unfortunately Blackburn seemed to run out of ideas in the second half so just began kicking people. We then couldn’t get our game going so just started kicking people as well. Christ knows how Besic wasn’t booked among others.

We would have been lucky to take it to penalties tonight but the important thing is the result and the performances of some of the fringe players such as Mousset and Besic both of whom seemed to look lively.

I don't really credit the strikers but couldn't blame them either as they had no service to them at all with out coming and collecting the ball well into our own half and running the full length of the pitch on there own what was they meant to do. Mousset looks quick but again and seems to be able to get around the back of defenders and make some thing of balls in behind again though didn't really have enough decent balls to say how class he looks seen him play 2x now and one he looked well off the pace and not fit at all and today he looked decent and looked like he wanted to get runs in behind so I'll look forward to seeing more of him but not going to say he looks class just yet.

You used the word shocking first time,now dreadful. I agree he had a poor game by his standards,not the calm and collected Jags,agree there, but there was worse on the pitch. And yes I was watching the same game. That's perspective for you. ;)
 
Off topic but that new no smoking rule didn't work everyone was smoking at the south stand gate, a woman told me there were people smoking in the toilets at Leicester
 
first half poor and very lucky to be 2 up off 2 chance, credit moore for Pen save. 2nd half we look more competative, Luke made a big difference, organised the midfield and besic did not have to throw himself about like in the first half, 3 sliding tackles in 5 mins would get him a red in the prem. Moose did look quality, but 30 mins at end is too early to judge. Still only Luke who has nailed his place in the team of the new guys. Mcburnie will be a starter with Robinson I guess at Chelsea. If Fleck is fit, does Lunny make way?
 
Rovers made 8 changes, looking around the other matches, bar Villa, all PL secondstrings were poor, Norwich and Palace even out.
 
We’ve been spoilt over the last few years and these one-off blips in performance lead to serious bedwetting by a few posters. It was a pre-season type game that I really don’t think CW was arsed about winning. We won so we’ll do the same again in the next round probably.

My view on the game:

Moore - kept us in the cup, solid and assured throughout with good shot stopping.

Back 5 (then 4) - Stearman and Jags were pretty piss poor but in Stearman’s defence he was having to field some awful passes under pressure and isn’t sharp enough to cope. Jags was sloppy both defensively and with his distribution. Osborne looked like ‘little boy lost’ against their number 2 (who played well IMO) and Stevens was poor when he came on. Bryan is a crock and will never play more than a handful of games in our 2nd XI. Freeman was average to poor but the move to a back 4 didn’t help him at all as we had no width.

MF - Besic did a good Monty impression (shit first touch followed by a slide tackle to recover the ball). Norwood did a great impression of someone who didn’t know that his team mates played in red and white (bizarrely setting up a goal and scoring a neat goal himself). Morrison tried hard and looked to get on the ball, just didn’t quite work for him at times. Osborne moved into a 4 and again looked lost.

Up front - McBurnie went on for a 45 minute fitness run out and no more, I can only imagine he was instructed not to bother trying to win, control or actually do anything useful with the ball as he’s actually a decent player. Sharp was completely isolated and our terrible all round play made him look even worse. Hiding to nothing for him today and not his fault.

Subs - Stevens already mentioned was pretty bad. Freeman livened it up a bit and we had our best spell (not saying that much though) when he was on. Mousset showed a few good touches and a turn of pace.

Blackburn - Dack controlled the game while he was on, the number 2 played well, Lenihan looked comfortable against very little threat from us. Smallwood is a niggly little shit. Mowbray is a dick.

Ref - awful, made a bad game worse.

I thought Osborn ran around a lot and did very little else. Got bossed physically by the number 2 when he was at LB to start with.
 



Wilders not bothered about the aesthetics about tonights gane . 2 shots at goal 2 on target 2 goals . That's.prem quality. Arsenal got away with that for years. Players got game time and some showed a bit of a hint there's something there. . We won a cup game again .been a while.
 
I think "risking regulars" might sometimes be worth it in these games. Tonight didn't really show much about how any of the second string would fit in.
Take Osborn - looked lost until Stevens and Freeman came on then improved massively.
I get the fitness thing about needing minutes on the pitch but giving Morrison and Besic half a game each along side two regular midfielders might have given a better indication of whether they are ready tactically.

And if one of the two regulars gets injured? Besic or Morrison are starting at Chelsea with 45 mins football under their belts.
 
Maybe but it'd be 45 minutes with the other players on the pitch.

I’d give Besic 10 mins against Chelsea just for a laugh, ideally he’d slide that far that he’d take a couple of players out and then follow through on Fat Frank.

I’m not being critical at all, I think the circumstances and the instructions that were given probably didn’t help, nor did the change to 4 at the back.

Like many have said if 1 or 2 of the fringe players were put in the starting XI they’d fit in quite well. The only 2 notable concerns would be Jags and Stearman, who I think can only be used to replace Egan. We would lose far too much attacking threat as they cannot play tuftyball.

Just leave people to calm down. Everyone was saying we should play the second string and not risk injuries before the game. I have no idea why people are surprised given that's how the first rounds always look.

He hates his dad, and has nothing to do with him. Hence why he has ‘Ravel’ and has done for a long long time.

As for him being MOTM, it was clear as day? Best player on the pitch by a way.

Jags had an absolute stinker. He’s central or nowt as I suspected all along (he’s definitely better than Stearman btw). We literally have fuck all coverwise at RCB and LCB in terms of strength in depth. It’s a worry.
 
We never play well with a back 5 without at least 3 of the regular 5 in it. It’s always disjointed and should really have resulted in a loss today but for the quality of Ravel and moments of fortune in front of our goal.

Imo, from now on in cup games we want to play our second bunch just to for a comfortable back 4 that every player is brought up in. Use training and reserve games to brush up on the system the first XI use. I think it would result in less Barnet style performances.
