I'm actually glad we're taking our time over this.
We HAVE to get this appointment right and McCabe knows it.
I think O'Driscoll will get the job when the dust settles, but, it's good to see us interviewing all applicants to exhaust all options.
For me, whoever get's it, i just really hope us lot stick with him through the transition.

But if we're only going to appoint SoD in the end anyway, whats the point?

Wasn't 'grandad' that soft twat who got sued by his own chairman?

Indeed he was.

Do you really think that it's a case of United ringing him up, asking him if he wants the job and if he does he can start tomorrow? If not please can you tell us what form you think the process takes and give us the time scale?

I know what you're saying Swiss.
I just meant that, i'm sure McCabe wants to see if any of the other candidates have any real pearls of wisdom into how to make us a serious promotion challenging side, that's all.
I personally, believe S'OD will be offered the job.:)

What happens is they will first of all write a letter to him.
This will get caught up in the huge backlog caused by the snow. In a few weeks because they have sent the letter recorded they will put a trace on the letter and find out ....... it has still not been delivered.
Then they will email him. However if he has a BT email address it won't be delivered as according to tesco home delivery there is a problem with BT email addresses. So no luck there.
The next step will be to send someone to "drive" past his house and see if he's in. If the curtains twitch when said car drives past it will mean he's hiding from someone.
All in all from sending the first letter to driving past his house will take approx six weeks.
I have no idea how long the negotiations will take as using the above methods I have never been able to contact a prospective employee,so I remain a sole trader.
Hope this helps.

Maybe Donny want to get someone in place before it's announced. (you are normally the sensible one)

I don't think its as simple as picking the phone up and then he comes across, of course there are formalities which we must stick to, but.... Christ if we can't get it sorted in a week then something is wrong at our club.

I am sure that SoD will be offered the job, so why don't we just get on an approach Donny? McCabe has said that the money is there to pay compo for the right man... so lets get on with it.

Normally i'd suggest patience and taking our time, but out of all the options discussed on here, SoD is the best long term for the club even if he can't work miracles with this squad of so called hoofers (not necessarily my opinion, but the one of others on here) then he needs as much of Jan as possible to sort the squad AND take a look at Reid/ have a word with him about staying, Donny will be Reid's last game.

We're in a poor position right now, but I think given a good Jan then we could salvage something and start moving up the table.

We acted too slow when removing Robbo so Play offs was almost impossible for Blackie
We acted too slow in sacking Blackie
We're now acting too slow in replacing Speed.

Chill guys, there's no rush, the top brass know what they're doing.
These things take time, like long hot summers which just pass you by..

I think we have already approached Donny, SOD has agreed to come and compo has been sorted but Chairman JR at has said we can't have him until after the game on the 3rd. Simples. Otherwise if it was someone else they would just do the bloody deal NOW!

I do think the sticking point is their Chairman Ryan. He seems like an awkward sod whenever he is interviewed with his sarcastic Beverley Hills smile. He's just being as awkward as possible, because he can.

Ah, the usual suspects spouting doom and gloom, the same people who moan when we bring someone in quickly :)

As we know, formal applications have to be made to approach a manager in work. As I understand it, these applications have to be submitted in writing and the receiving club have a certain amount of time to respond. Ryan said late last week that he was expecting a phone call which suggests that the initial approach had been made and verbal contact was imminent. Only then can the nitty gritty start and despite people suggesting that this is being delayed for ages, they've only said no announcement before Xmas which is basically this week. With talks in the early stages and the busy Xmas period, this is hardly unexpected.

If SO'D is interested then you'd expect talks to be taking place early this week then the clubs will need to react accordingly, either we switch our target or start thrashing out a deal with Donny. With this in mind, I really don't think anything's changed, if SO'D wants the job, Donny won't stand in his way but it may take a while to sort out with our game on 3rd clouding the issue further.

I guess the worry could be that if he turns us down, there's little time to sort the 2nd choice as far as January is concerned but with Carver in charge, at least there's no further disruption to the team so I really don't see a problem, or see any reason to believe that SO'D stuill isn't the No.1 target.

I don't see any problem with a lengthy interview process. After all, this manager could be installed for the next 5 years at the lane, will have to rebuild the club and also use more academy players than before.

It's not unreasonable to hope that the board would use it's noggin and not rush in with both feet. In Feb 08, we rushed in with both feet, appointing Blackwell, when the job was still perhaps the best outside the top flight at that time, and there would have been no shortage of applicants.
Then, Speed was appointed without any apparent competition. I was highly critical at the time of this, so I think this time it is correct that the board conducts 'due dilligence' as such on our managerial candidates.

The silence from Donny and John Ryan is deafaning though, he likes to shoot his mouth off at any opportunity and you would have thought if there had been no contact/approach he would have been saying so by now if only to appease the Donny faithfull.

I was about to post that you'd answered your own question then as if by magic........ :)

Ahem, I'm sure that was a series of typos and what you were actually trying to say was we should listen to those who, at the time, recognised the abject failure of the club to act last summer leading us to where we are now.
Happily, Uncle Leonard's worked his keyboard magic and the club have now responded.

Yes, I expect it was you getting the cowards running our club by the scruff of the neck at the AGM that made them see sense....

Taking it a step further Torrix, if SOD had agreed to remain at Doncaster, you would have heard Ryan trumpeting it from the roof tops
