Watched his highlights, he seems to run and kick the ball very weirdly

Obviously this doesn't mean he's good or bad or anything, but it seems very unnatural with the way he runs and kicks the ball

His style looks awkward. Like his legs are too long for his mind to understand 😄

It's not really, 3 million quid for a 20 year old with an international cap is about as low risk as you can go as there is always going to be re-sale value.

CF Benie Traore.

I think it's a good deal and one I am excited about, lots of things to be rightly negative about at the moment this isn't one of them.
I'm not remotely excited about it unless he ends up being 3rd/4th choice. If he doesn't then it's a dreadful signing

cc Rhian Brewster

It just seems a lot of money to pay for a youth player for a team needing 4 Championship ready players in the next 14 days.

And get your point re resale value but we need players who can contribute this year. Unless there's some magic money tree somewhere.

You can't compare this deal to Brewster. Totally different amounts involved.

If we also bring in two more centre backs and fill the other positions we're short during the next couple of weeks, then fair enough.

I just think we should be prioritising strengthening the first team right now before spending this kind of money on a prospect.

This is the kind of signing we should make when we have a settled first team, not right now.

So Fabrizio says we've signed him.... but we are yet to see any press release.

Normally that would suggest that we are going to do a double unveiling or so. But who the heck knows haha.

Wasn't Anel in a similar position there?
One of the best defenders coming out of Swedish football the last 5-10 years. Can't remember seeing someone dominate games as a central defender like he has. Excellent signing and I'd be stunned if the fee is only 3.5 millions. I thought he would go for 6-7 millions.
Very good signing should he come!

Not really comparable. Anel had been a regular for them during two consecutive seasons (hugely impressive) and on top of that had played 1/2 season for Bordeaux in the Ligue 1 prior to signing for us.

Didn't Alex Ferguson say no to signing Jordan Henderson because he runs weird?

I think someone has, and didn't really rate him..?
Apologies if I misunderstood your post forte .

I was a bit drunk there so completely understandable if my analysis was a bit unclear. But you still got my point - I am not super excited about this one. Based on his form and performances at Malmlö lately he has nothing to do in our first-team. However, young players have an extraordinary ability to adjust quickly to a new level. He is young and did look good at times last year but I feel we are overpaying here - just a couple of solid performances over the course of 18 month is not enough to convince me...

Watched us pay triple this for a striker who had 3 goals in 58 league games and he turned into a star. I’m convinced he will be good based on nothing more than blind hope

Like Benie Traore, Anis Slimane etc?

The issue is they were thrown straight in and clearly weren’t good enough in a shit side. There was no development plan

And Isn’t Traore supposed to be doing well now and potentially on the move to Serie A? Imagine if he’d been brought along slowly and for example we could have him playing instead of say marsh atm - having that LT plan would have been quite effective.

This Swedish geezer doesn’t sound like he’s good enough for this season - but if it’s a LT plan and we can bring him along maybe it will still be a decent purchase. If he’s thrown in and sinks because he has nothing around him it’ll end up a waste of £3m z

Mousset?

The sort of swings we should have been taking when we were last in the PL instead of doing fuck all because the prince didn’t have 2 beans to rub together.

That way we could have had them developing at the correct rate and a plan to integrate them over the next few years. 3m seems high given the less than stellar track record so far - but if he becomes a good player in the long term it could become a good investment.

Seems like we’ll still need another couple of centrebacks even after this - especially if we sell.
That's exactly what we did do. Then we sold all our best players, people wanted said players to be good now, and didn't give them any sort of chance, short or long term.

Yes, I think Beni is a better player than his time with us would suggest. Moved on by CW as he didn't fit with the muck & nettles ethos, and maybe considered too small. It made sense to get our money back if he wasn't part of CW's plan at the time, but I think he is a talented player.

Brian Clough was always keen to look for a bargain in the lower echelons and and on a fateful night in August 1969, his assistant manager Peter Taylor went to watch Kevin Keegan playing for Scunthorpe against Southend.

In the book, With Clough by Taylor, the assistant manager explains that he didn’t think much of the player.

He said: “The player we’d gone to watch didn’t get a kick and his team lost 3-0. He was valued at just £15,000 but didn’t look worth it that night.

“He was too small, he didn’t know where to run or wait and he didn’t have the physique or experience for his job of playing up front on his own.

“I ought to have realised that his best position was striking from midfield or just behind the front runners; instead I crossed him off my list.

“Two years went by before I heard of him again. He had gone up in the world, fetching a £30,000 fee and joining Liverpool. His name was Kevin Keegan.”

From what I can gather on the Malmo forum, he burst onto the scene last season with some excellent displays and that's how he got his Sweden call up. He's regressed quite dramatically this season and lost his place. Their fans mostly think he has undoubted potential but it's a great deal for someone who is just potential

So basically he looked like the next ABBA, then struggled slightly and looked like Roxette, he then digressed more looking like Ace of base

But they still hope one day he will look like the AI ABBA

Exactly - there was no plan for them. Chuck them in with a sink or swim attitude because there was no squad behind them. No wonder they sank without a trace

In an alternate scenario

Benni for example could be stepping in now instead of marsh/ukaki or similar. And we wouldn’t look so short of quality. Managed the right way it would be sensible approach

3m in this geezer might be ok if he steps in and looks great in a year or so. If he’s shit now because he’s playing along side bindon or RND and not ready then there a high probability it looks like a complete waste of our limited funds. Because it doesn’t sound like he’s one for right now - but will likely end up playing though there are no other options

That was more my point, Benie never got a fair roll of the dice imo. Little experience and thrown straight in as you said. I didn't even think he looked that bad, certainly no worse than some of the other guff we had.
