Tend to agree. Probably a fairly nominal fee, looks at best a 3rd or 4th choice.

Obviously hard to tell from video footage but I wonder where he's at compared to Baptiste/Sasnauskas, hopefully he's not a blocker to those. I have high hopes for Baptiste, looks a player.
Swedish International I'd imagine is a step up from these tbf, also if Robinson goes and he signs we will only own one centre half so there's plenty of room for the above to break through next to zatterstrom if they are good enough

Agreed, I’d like to think that as a Swedish international he’d be able to make a decent contribution this season as 3rd choice.

We definitely need to sign someone to partner Bindon, that’s probably the thinking behind the potential Godfrey signing.

I think a lot of people on here are putting far too much reliance on this transfer and massively overrating where he is currently.
This would be a development transfer, not someone you'd look to straight in an expect to solve a problem.
He's further back in his development than Bindon, and that's not a criticism just an honest assessment of where he is at a very young age.

This deal shouldn't be our #1 focus, it shouldn't be in the top 3.
See the chapter titled: Rhian Brewster.

I think the 'Swedish International' bit is doing some heavy lifting here. Looks like he has one cap, likely through just wanting to get him involved in a friendly, and hasn't managed to even break through into the Malmo first XI consistently. It's a big step up to the Championship.

Not saying he is or isn't ready as I've not seen nearly enough but anyone expecting him to come in an be any sort of adequate replacement is setting themselves up for a fall. Still obviously vital we sign a ready-baked Championship centre half.

Maybe I'm just a bed wetter with buying young kids, but the concern I raised with Rhian was that he was a very talented kid but completely the wrong profile of player for who we needed. So yes, very much familiar feeling vibes here hopefully minus the injuries.

They’re not skint. There a lot wealthier than the prince so it’s even more baffling.

This is the crux of the matter, for me.

They are definitely not skint, recent appointee, Pejman Nozad is well known for picking and backing winners (usually as startups, I might add).....

"...He also co-founded venture firm Pear VC with Mar Henshenson under the name Pejman Mar in 2013.[11]

For his work with Pear VC, he was also ranked in the 15th spot in Forbes' annual Midas List in 2021.[12] In 2022, he retained the number 15 rank in the Midas List[13] and was ranked number 2 on the Midas Seed List.[14]..."

I read somewhere, a while ago, that Pejman Nozad invested $1 million dollars in "Door Dash" which is the US version of Deliveroo, when it was a startup, and made $900 million on that deal, alone.

I am unsure how the consortium is structured, and don't know if everyone has an equal say in the running of SUFC or not.

What we don't want is the Directors splitting into two camps, opposing each other. Not saying that has happened, or will happen, but I would assume the more people that are involved, the higher the likelihood of it happening.

if mepham is still available we could do worse than bring him in to play alongside bindon we need at least 1 experienced centre back to come in and mepham fits the bill for me
The problem is, if he's committed to Bindon as a starter and playing a high line, then his partner needs pace, which removes the likes of Mepham and many others as viable options

An unproven inexperienced defender with no pace on loan was not the way to start the defensive rebuild

I think people are overthinking the spend based on rumours etc.
  • Anel was a good offer in his last year - no doubt wanted to go.
  • Vini definitely would have wanted to go and the offer seemed fair.
  • Moore was a no brainer.

I don't think it's tight-fistedness. I think it's incompetence.

I'm optimistic we'll see players come in over the next couple of week, but we'll have lost ground already at that point quite possibly.

Spot on but must be replaced with better

He’s way more involved than that. Sooner we cut ties with him the better. I’m hoping that what Selles said today and the unrest from the fans it will see us move away from him soon cos at the minute him and a few of the directors are the problem. This is the problem you have when you have a consortium though too many voices.
It used to be called managing by committee, now it’s managing by Zoom
Starting to wish tingo bought us
They did based on current performance on and off the pitch

The manager has now made his thought clear on the situation the ball is in their court now.

We’re now in a position where if we need to overpay slightly to get players through the door so be it. We’ve put ourselves in a position where we are shopping desperate and late in the window.

If they back the manager and get players in and this has been a steep learning curve under new and inexperienced owners then it is what it is and hopefully we don’t repeat this approach to transfer windows in future. They just need to realise that they are running out of time and can’t chase the perfect deal now.

This is true. He came on as a last minute substitute against Azerbaijan while Sweden were 6-0 up. He's some way off being a regular in the Sweden squad.

I don’t know if it’s already been posted on this thread but he seems highly rated in this article and it sounds like getting him in now before he develops further and is potentially beyond our reach is sensible business and squad building. The club just shouldn’t be expecting him to be a regular starter this year.

We need to be far more organised.

Take Bournemouth as a prime example:

1 June - Dean Huijsen leaves for Real Madrid

16th June - Adrien Truffert joins from Rennes
26th June - Milos Kerkez joins Liverpool

15th July - Mark Travers joins Everton
16th July - Dorde Petrotvić joins from Chelsea

12th August - Illia Zabarnyi joins PSG
13th August - Bafodé Diakité joins from Lille

It looks like they decided to just let Huijsen go and have Senesi and Zabarnyi be first pick and the likes of Hill and Mepham back up, then Zabarnyi got sold and immediately replaced. I’m not sure Mepham will be easy to get given that 3 lf the 6 centre backs they have are very young.

Point made was they had a replacement plan and executed it well.

I see they are now selling Outtara to Brentford for 42.5m, who are selling Wissa to Newcastle for 40m, so Brentford also thinking similarly. Incidentally Bournemouth have a few left wingers so can probably let him go.

We really missed out not better strengthening the XI after we stayed up didn’t we?

If we're looking at nordic talent then we could do worse than send a scout to Brommapojkarna, the biggest football club in Europe in terms of registered youth players where Gyokeres came through and Bergvall and Kulusevski at Spurs to name a few

100%

We need at least 1 but ideally 2 senior commanding CBs.

I fear if we get this lad in and Robinson leaves, it's gonna be him and Bindon stuck like deer staring into headlights.

Was this James Bord (the poker guy) involved with United in January?

While our January window wasn't particularly quick, it was a fairly smooth window in terms of arrivals/departures, until the end where we were scrambling a bit for a CB.

The initial signings weren't quick, but other than Holding, they all seemed to come in close to the same time.

If Bord wasn't involved with United in January (whether as an advisor or in any other capacity), could he be the reason why things are so different this window compared to last.

Is he deliberately slowing our deals down in some gamble to get the targets he wants at the price he wants?

well selles may have to think again mepham is a solid left sided championship centre back and if he is not being allowed to bring the players in to play this system he has to change it to a system that suits the players already at the club
