How can you disagree with most of this.

Watched them home and away, as we have done for nearly 20 years on the bounce now and current performances across the park [apart from a few exceptions] are v poor.

Pretty enough football [at times] but we don't go anywhere. Usually takes the opposition 15 - 20 minutes to realise that we aren't going to hurt them then bingo!

Where's the investment that McC promised us when the Sheik came on board........."to build a team for the Championship and beyond?"

10 points off the top, and equally 10 points above Scunthorp [6th from the bottom].

A disgraceful comment from Clough. Yet more evidence that he is out of his depth. The aim of Sheffield United is to finish in the top 6 of Division 3? Wtf? I suppose we shouldn't be surprised given his ulta cautious and mind numbingly boring approach to matches.

What was the comment, please? Note, the question is not "What have you been told the comment was?

I can think of someone who is out of his depth; it isn't Nigel Clough. He's here to stay. Are you?

Yep - been a ST holder for 30+ years - take more than the current tripe to stop me supporting the Blades.

The quote was in Clough's RS post match interview.

Clough here to stay? I doubt it. Poor signings, ludicrous team selections, negative tactics.......I think he will go on to spend most of his career managing in League 2...I just hope it isn't with us.

30 years? You're a naive novice pal but one who is fluent in self-satisfied nonsense. How did NC hold his own at Championship level for so long? Am I mistaken in thinking that he transformed our fortunes last season? Did we reach an FA Cup semi-final and are we now in the quarter-finals of the League cup? Not everyday events for League One clubs. Do you agree?

Which Neanderthal S2 Hoofer would you like as manager, as a matter of (very slight) interest?

Clough didn't hold his own at Championship level. His record at Derby was poor and they improved massively after they sacked him.

It's not for me to name a replacement. Someone who plays positive, attacking football and actually tries to win games would be a start.

Surely you can't be enjoying his ultra negative approach? Slow, negative football - hoping to nick games 1-0 rather than trying to dominate teams.

Cannot believe the negativity on here at the moment - We are preparing for a League Cup Quarter Final on Tuesday and stand fifth in the league - It's not even Christmas yet and the shower on here are like Doom & Gloom - We do NOT have a given right to be top of the league because we are Sheffield United FC - the squad Mr Clough has assembled is more than capable of winning this league - I put it down to the players - They have got to want it much more than they do at present ! Nearly all our squad would walk into any other team in this division - they do not lack the skill - what does appear to be lacking is confidence and belief - and that will come by winning games!
As regards this forum Blader (Mr Doom) and Harrys Game (Mr Gloom) especially seem to revel in slagging off the club - Why don't you bugger off over to S6 - Most of their fans think that they have a God Given Right to be successful - Football is not like that, never has been and never will be !

Just sheer frustration from the fans who spend hard earned money watching the Blades . Changing manager perhaps would be suicidal and a bad move , but something has to change . The in-comings and out- goings of playing staff ,in January is critical.

We have no divine right to be top of league 1 ,or be in the Championship or be successful . However if we cannot achieve any of these aims / goals , the last one out of BDTBL turn the lights off please.

'Nearly all our squad would walk into any other team in this division'.

They would walk because none of them have any pace :)
In all seriousness though I often wonder if any away fans say 'I wish we had (any SUFC player) in our team'. I very much doubt it, possibly Jose or Jamie Murphy on a good day but other than that we have nothing better than anyone else.

You could be correct. Let us see how many Blades players the PFA League 1 team of the season holds . (Harry has been included in previous seasons ) . Not really bothered what other supporters think about our players ,or which of our players , they would like in there team . I just want a concerted Blades team effort , with passion in every game , to get us out of this league.

Like you, I'm not bothered what other supporters think I was just highlighting the fact that we don't have a superior squad of players as some on here believe.
I would happily watch a team with no so-called stars in it that played good, high tempo, attacking football. Unfortunately we don't have either.

Some fans at Fleetwood yesterday seemed to love slagging off the team and certain players yesterday yet you never heard a word of priase from them when we were leading or if a player did well.

As a lady behind me said, you do wonder why they bother to go to games.

Neither you nor anyone else knows which club has the best team or squad. We shall know in May. One things for sure, the team's that get the best results against the other 23 will prevail, not against a particular 8. Why 8, by the way, as opposed to 6 or maybe 12? Does it suit your agenda better?

Leyton Orient though, watch out for them. They have a fine squad having recruited really well in the Summer.

If they are bothering going to Fleetwood as we did it's probably because they are unitedites. They might be very frustrated unitedites but they are making the effort and spending their money following their team.

The point is, we don't need references like "bugger off to S6" - EVERYONE is entitled to an opinion without attracting this type off response.

Blader - you carry on mate. There's a lot who agree with you!

OK then, the top 6:

Hardly looks any better does it now? Fair to say, top 6 is far from 'arbitrary' is it? Totally deluded if you think our current squad is better than the sides above us.

Everyone of us who follow the Blades are supporters . It is just sheer frustration . Mr Clough and Mr Garner were shouting and bawling at the players all game , which sums it up for me . Lack of ideas and no leadership from one player on the field , is why both management and supporters vent there anger and frustrations . Difference is , we have to pay for the privilege.

The S6 reference alluded to the fact that most Wendy fans spout on about their right to be a premier league club - what I was trying to say is that because we are 'allegedly' the biggest club in the Third Division doesn't give us the right to expect our side to be top of the league
It was no reference at all toMr Doom being any less of a blade - in fact he probably is more of a blade than many but just so ultra negative that he believes his own rhetoric !

Lose our next 2 games and we could be out of a cup that we're hardly likely to win anyway, and as low in the league as 10th. What will your assessment be then?

I agree that the players need to give more but I still feel you're too optimistic in how you rate them. In terms of Clough's work building the squad, he chose to sell the league's best defender rather than play hardball and has failed to solve the lack of goals. We have stagnated, if not regressed, from the last third of last season.

Given where we were a top 6 finish might not be a disaster but many fans expected more and there is real concern that we might not even get that. There are ways to express this which don't wallow in misery, but I think you can understand some discontent.

Ah Mr Doom,

As your 'evidence' is based on less than half a season I am astounded that you can come to such opinions - Yes I too get frustrated that we are not scoring enough goals and I too cannot understand why we give so many 'soft' goals away but realistically, if we are such a bad side and if none of our players could get in the Bristol City team then we are not doing too badly given, in your opinion how poor a side we have !

I believe that we will come good during the second half of the season, the players have shown in very brief glimpses that they have the capability - they now have to prove it !

In the past I have been very, very critical especially the Blackwell era but, Nigel Clough has played football at the highest level under possibly one of the best managers in the country - I think he knows a bit more about football the Mr Doom, Mr Gloom and all the rest of the so -called supporters clamoring for changes - I thought this was the time of year for Nativity not Negativity.

I for one will be fully behind them on Tuesday hoping that a good performance will galvanise the players into transferring it into league form and make the second half of the season one to remember !

Up the Blades !

Given your logic Win the next two and we will be in the Semi Finals of a major cup competition again and consolidating our position in the top six !

I can understand some discontent - I certainly have issues with some of the players who have not performed this year anyway near the levels they achieved in the second half of last season- And that includes Flynn, Murphy, Baxter and Scougill - But having seen them turn it on last year gives me optimism that they are capable !

We would all like to be top of the league, several points clear and winning week in week out but it won't happen by everyone being so negative !

Tbf I don't think some fans being negative on a message board will affect performances, just as if everyone were to be extremely positive. It's up to the management, the players and the board to affect performances.

Yes, I think half my point is that any assessment of our current position is likely to be subjective, based on your expectations and perspective. I think the most disappointing thing for many is how we are playing, not just the results. It's all very uninspiring, and that is reflected in the fans' overall mood.

like the second half of last season (the business end), we will improve massively. Clough has sorted the defence and is now looking at attack and will compete for promotion. So long as we are in the top 6 now.
Clough isn't panicking neither should we.

OK, too much in that I don't have the energy to respond to, and we wouldn't get anywhere anyway. However, let's draw it back to facts here.

The champions of League 1 over the past years have got: 103, 84, 101, 95 - Mean: 95.75
The runners up have taken: 92, 93, 83, 94. Mean: 90.5

We are currently on 32 points. In the remaining 26 matches, to achieve automatic promotion, we will need to gain roughly 59 points and 64 to go up as champions, based on previous years (as a fairly reliable source). That means we need to gain an average of 2.27 points per game for automatic, and 2.46 points per game to go up as champions.

Now, I am not saying this is impossible, but BASED ON WHAT YOU HAVE SEEN IN THE FIRST 20 GAMES, do you think it is likely that we will achieve this? If your answer is yes, who am I to say you are wrong? I am not the font of all knowledge, I do not claim to be a football genius or anything like that. However, put in those terms, even the most optimistic (deluded) of supporters would say this is HIGHLY unlikely.

Now, I'll be as generous to your side of the argument as I can. From the Crewe away game last season, we amounted 41 points in 19 games. That gives us an average of 2.16 points per game , and that is manipulating the statistics as much as I can in favour of your argument. So, my question is repeated in light of this further evidence - do you believe, we are capable of maintaining a better run than last season, for a longer period, based on what you have seen in the first 20 games of this season?

So, you wanted to see 'evidence', well I'm just playing the laws of probability and saying I find it EXTREMELY UNLIKELY we will be automatically promoted this season. We may finish in the playoffs, we may win the playoffs, but my disappointment lies in that we are not storming an extremely poor division. We have left ourselves in a position where automatic promotion is all but gone in December, I hope you too find this unacceptable.

Interesting stats but flawed. It doesn't matter what points the 2nd place team finished on, only what the 3rd placed team got.

E.g. 87 points would have been enough for automatic promotion last season. Brentford didn't need 94.

It's great that we have people with opposing views and offering stuff for debate, but I find the old "fuck off to S6" comments tedious, to me always a sign of your losing the argument.
