He is, but I think local rivalry is the least of their worries right now! I wouldn't have minded Cotterill here to be honest, although I prefer Wilder by some distance, but Cotterill did really well at Bristol City and Cheltenham.
So you don't think employing a manager connected with a rival, just after you've been relegated might lead to a protest in the car park, or similar?

;)

That is way, way too logical and it wouldn't fit with Barnsters agenda against Adkins.

No one will ever know what Adkins would've done with Hammond if he'd have stayed and knew he was staying a few months back.

Perhaps Adkins would've used him in a coaching role, who knows?

Barney calls Adkins an idiot for signing Hammond, I'd call it a mistake, I wonder what Adkins would think of Barney for spending all that money on a season ticket only for him to not use the fucking thing. Maybe he'd just say it's his choice?

Perhaps a coaching role I reckon but I thought they fallen out at half time during the Scunny match? Hence Hammond pisssing off home early.

Hammond might have pissed off early as he knew that the man who brought him here wasn't going to be here next season? Perhaps Adkins was doing him a favour bringing him off early due to the vitriol he would have got?

People always say 'what exactly did Derek Dooley do?' And then go on about his job description. I've always suspected that what he did was to tell KM that Warnock was right, when they had a disagreement.
If you're surrounded by sycophants who depend on you for their living, you tend to find you're always 'right'.

I’ve read books by Bassett and Warnock and both speak highly of Dooley as a ally and a football person they could turn to on the board.

I suspect you’re not too far off in your description. I’ve often heard him referred to as an excellent conduit between manager and chairman.

Also, whenever he spoke publicly you didn’t get that same feeling of a snake-like politician that you do when McCabe speaks (as he spreads blame around anyone who has departed the club and blames luck).

Warnock- “I’d like to sign Jon Stead”.

McCabe “What about Duncan Ferguson? He’d excite the fans more”

Dooley “Shut the fuck up Kev and listen to Neil. He actually knows what he’s talking about”.

It'd be extremely interesting if he got the job and didn't move for him! That'd say to me that he knows Hammond isn't good enough for a side going for promotion, yet still allowed himself to become lumbered with an expensive player by letting him dictate the permanent contract clause.

Worth remembering though that NA wasn’t the contract negotiations man. He may have realized during the course of last season that in fact, Hammond can’t give him what he could in the past and he might not have wanted him here for next season but the terms were the terms so he tried to focus on his positives (of which there are some despite the insistence of some).

It could also be that he deems a player in Bolton’s squad capable of playing Hammond’s role? Perhaps he doesn’t see their dressing room as having the same need for a player like Hammond as he did with ours? Perhaps his remit will be different and he will be given time to develop a team and won’t have to try to make a handful of “safe” signings in one shit or bust season?

There’s a whole array of reasons he might not choose to sign Dean Hammond for next season.

As is obvious, Kev, from his signings of Horsefield, Shelton, Fahti, Akinbiyi, Razor Davis et al...

Noted. But as I’ve said repeatedly under Adkins all managers make bad signings. Our record pre and post Warnock suggests he’s in credit. You can offset those names with

And baffled at how long it’s taken to sack him as well. The Charlton fans have wanted him gone for ages.
After just missing out on the play offs last season, I thought they would push on, not paid much attention to their results, until a few weeks ago, Jeff Stelling, reading out the latest scores, Charlton losing again, things not going well, pressure building on Adkins etc

Back to Scunthorpe?
i would assume so as no-one else will touch him.

i thought at the time, adkins has lived off scunthorpe & southampton for a long time. scunthorpe is impressive but southampton with the squad he had in League 1 he probally shouldve got successive promotions. but then after that 3 out his next 4 jobs. reading had there lowest finish since they got promoted from division 2, came to us had we had our lowest finish for 34yrs, & now charlton who have never been so low. you have to go back to 1925/26 to the last time they were in 20's in the 3rd tier
