>or are you talking about the game at the lane when he set up nade?
well that's two contributions in ten years.. anything else to add??
metalblade is bang on.. of that mega midfield we had in '04..
brown.. sold
tonge.. sold
mccall.. retired
jagielka (occaisionally).. sold
monty.. not sold

if they're any good we sell them..

>but it was a serious warning to Danny Wilson yesterday and he has take note
he could lose the fans very quickly if he isn't careful

Sad to say 2 great contributions in the PL there but that was like 5 years ago and we still got relegated.

Significant that DW took off Monty yesterday as first replacement. He can see what we see but he is constrained by what squad he has.
It is absolutely clear that Danny is no mug so I think he will be doing something about it in due course.
Problem he has is that Monty is a top earner - if not in team then he is not in shop window,. If he is in the team he is a liability, if he is not in the team then other clubs will know there is something wrong with him and DW is stuck with a player that does not fit his style and one he cannot shift on to replace with someone that does fit.
I understand Monty was struggling with a calf injury - so that may have been an excuse - to some extent.
HOWEVER, what is inexcusable is that Monty declares himslef fit, whilst carrying a knock, so he can "play".
This is a very selfish thing to do to his other team mates.

Willo in the centre and Flynn on the wing would have been my prefered choice but Monts has been there a long time and clearly has some clout behind the scenes.
The other thing you have to consider is that Monts is club captain (whilst Morgs is out - if he ever returns to play?)
He had the arm band yesterday and that may be club policy but I am not sure why Monts had the arm band whren Doyle has been doing a perfectly good job as it is.

I have defended Monts in the past over what I saw as over the top, unfair criticism. We all know he is nothing fancy but he did a fair job when we were underdogs and chasing better players in better footballing sides. Now we are forcing the pace and dictating the play he does not fit at all. I also believe that he is a disrupting influence on the other players - they are not mugs and can see who gives possession away too easily. They then have to clear up the mess that is left and that pisses off players royally. I would not be surprised if Monty is quite unpopular with the rest of the squad if he is using his status as one of the longest serving players to get games ahead of those that warrant it on merit.

What we need is for one of the youngsters like McAlister to drop into McD's role when he is out. Positive that DW knows this as well - that's why he has sent McA out on loan to get some more experience. Danny just hasn't got a ready replacement for McD in the squad. Quinn is too small as a pairing with Doyle, I don't know enough about Hoskins to say whether he could do that role, so the only other option is Willo in the centre. Wouldn't be surpirsed if this has been done in training and we see Willo in that role on Weds evening with Flynn out on right wing.

I'll bet you if DW could ship out Monts today - he would.

No scapegoating - he just doesn't fit.

every top side.. whatever their level have a top class centre mid (for that level).. they are irreplaceable.. SAF was that desperate he brought scholes out of retirement for this very reason.. i think K Mac has rapidly become our talisman and this should not be underestimated.. by that i mean that when he is on the pitch we simply 'believe' we can win.. whether he plays well or not.. preston was proof of this.. for the time being we should stick williamson in there.. he reckons he is a CM so let's see him prove it

He's the forum equivalent of Violet Elizabeth Bott.

Violet did not predict, with 100% accuracy, the level of The Maestro's contribution on Sunday. I'm afraid more and more are coming to realise that your hero has basic and insurmountable inadequacies that militate against him ever wearing our shirt again. Enough is enough, and all but his dwindling band of apologists have had more than enough. He won't be here in 6 months time. His departure will benefit our club enormously and can't come quick enough.

Or, of course, we can maintain our traditional love of hard-working, committed ineptitude. It was there for all to see on Sunday, wasn't it?

That just how I feel about it. Always defended Monty BUT now is the time for change He just doesnt fit the style of play that we are playing at the moment. Wednesday I would bring Flynn in and put Quinn or Willo there or even bring Hoskins in to that role.

......your hero.....

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, here in plain English so that even those who struggle with joined-up thinking like your good self can understand. Monty isn't the best player in the world, or at United, or possibly even in his house at times. If we can replace him permanently then let's do that.

I've said that many times, yet because I also think that you're not always right you take that to mean that I love Monty and he's my hero.

Well, he's not. I'll say that again for the fuckwits to try and grasp, again.

Just because I may or may not think that certain posters (naming nobody in particular so I don't get banned) are arseholes doesn't mean that I automatically love Monty.

I do happen to like Monty, but that doesn't mean that I would not be happy for him to be replaced. I am well aware of his limitations as a player, but a dislike for chicken liver pate does not mean an automatic love of tomato soup, and nor does thinking that sometimes Pinchy is full of either himself, or some other kind of shit, mean that Monty is my hero.

Monty wasn't the best player on Sunday, but a 1-0 defeat to Wednesday wasn't entirely down to his play, or lack thereof. Personally I thought Quinn and Cresswell had stinkers, not because I hate them irrationally, but just because on Sunday they weren't very good. That's all.

I agree with your whole post, but just quoting the 2 sections which illustrate exactly how I feel about Monty these days. To back up the second point about disrupting the team, I saw Doyle giving Monty more than one bollocking about wasteful posession yesterday.

By singling out Monty it is not scapegoating in my eyes, it's acknowledgement that of the main squad he simply does not fit into this team. It stops dead the way this team is set-up to play, hence the 2nd half hoofball where it was totally pointless to try and match the pigs at, they are a team set up for it, we are not.

I'm personally not blaming Monty for that, he can't help his lack of ball skill, it's down to Wilson and how he set the team up for yesterday, for that he can take a bit of flak.

Contrast Monty with Quinny who's form has been poor in the last 2 matches, and I agree he had a poor game yesterday, but he fits the system and how we want to play. Despite recent criticism, we have seen plenty of occasions where he has created goals this season.

Alas SV, if I had your command of English I would have loved to have put it like that. Unfortunately I don't, so may I hang on to your post and say that I am in entire agreement with all you say above.
If McD is (perish the thought) out for any length of time, I think we have better combo's than Monty and Doyle somewhere within the club. I'd be happy for Doyle and A.N Other (Willo? with Flynn out wide, Quinn? again with Flynn out wide or maybe even Ertl if DW goes with two less creatives in the centre). But on this season's evidence Monty isn't the answer especially with the way we play these days.
But the way the predictables go for him and call him derogatory names (is it really necessary to call him a 'turd'?) is the thing that pisses me off the most!

>because on Sunday they weren't very good. That's all.
they're never very good.. wake up and smell the coffee

I'm sure I speak for plenty on here when I say the feeling is very mutual.
