Anyway idle speculation why the form has come back?

The return of Monty to the squad.......

Monty is our Zidane. Admittedly he's not got exactly the same skill on the ball, or indeed off it, but he's similar in other ways. Probably....

Anyway, he's great, because he can play most of the time with his eyes shut, so imagine how good he'd be if he actually kept them open. Imagine all the great passes, well timed tackles, and nifty tricks.

It's all very well slagging him off, but you have to remember that he plays for most of the time with the same awareness of his surroundings as Stevie Wonder. How many other professionals can pass and tackle only using their hearing and smelling where the other players are? I bet he can even taste where they are! That's how good he actually is!

Please note I do like Monty, but I wish he'd open his bloody eyes when there's a lens pointed at him...

Its an interesting hypothosis, no suprise though we stop losing when he returns, didnt this happen last year as well.

You forgot to mention how good a player he is considering he only has one and a half legs. (see photo one)

Even more astonishing is the fact that the half leg varies from one match to another - see photo 2.

These photos explain a great many things that have baffled me for years!

And I seem to remember that he was brought back by Blackwell despite the negative comments of our knowledgeable fans.

Brought back when?

Not everything has to fall into a Blackwell pro or anti polemic.

The vast majority of United supporters are pro Monty and anti Blackwell in my opinion... though the recent run may have swayed a few.

I think Swiss is talking about when he brought him back against Forest (A) last season after about six months out. I think it is fair to say most Unitedites didn't want him brought back, I certainly didn't.

I did......

I have always liked Montgomerinho and only seen the positives he brings to the team. Maybe I too spend most games with my eyes shut.

Interestingly, going on some of the things he says in this article, he could be not much longer at the Lane...

"It's a difficult one because I would love to stay but the club will have to look after me because there has been interest in the past and I've stayed.

"I stayed loyal to Sheffield United and hopefully they can make me want to stay.

"Obviously, if I don't get something sorted out I've got to look at other options in the near future as, obviously, come what may at that time I would be out of contract and on a free transfer.

It'll be sometime after next October i would've thought. I'd certainly go to it to.

Cheers Santos, yeah I meant last season when he came back in.

I also thought he'd has his time and didn't really want him back! Shows what some of us fans know!

Then, we got the best out of him and he brought out the best in our team by just doing the simple things.

It was also shown earlier this season that when he doesn't perform or he's not involved, then the team suffers.

It could be just be coincidence or luck or both or neither...

All I know is, he's called Nick.... Montgomery!

Monty is vital to SUFC. Like has been pointed out, we have started winning games since he returned. And crap teams like the Dingles have stopped passing us off the park. He needs to be given a new deal asap. He is much more worthy of one than certain stupid goalkeepers I can think of.

Sod buying and paying creswell to play for us... give this lad some more money to stay

No! No! No!

Let him go and bring in a footballer.

If he's as good as you lot hallucinate that he is we'll get millions for him!

I wouldn't see the point of letting him go for nothing. I imagine they'll sort a new contract in January.

I would be extremely pissed off if they didn't in fact.

I second that.
The Longest serving United player being let go for nothing without a word from the club would be terrible.

Monty is one of those lads that brings confidence to the team as whole, his fellow players respect him, he's solid when it comes to a certain type of leadership.

He makes mistakes, but I've seen other players more respected by the fans, that have dropped a bigger bollock and cost us games.

If we had more Montys (personality wise) in the team we'd have one chuffin hell of a team.

Montys attitude off the pitch is one of a lovely warm person. There's no arrogance with him, I would gladly work with him anytime I'm asked.

echo most of the above, it's a disgrace we've got this close to his contract running down without offering him something.

And to go back to a torrid place if you remember back to Wembley there was one person above all else that cared that we'd missed out and it was him and I don't feel it was just because he'd missed out on a potential wage increase, he loves the club and we need him.

Monty won't go anywhere if he's interested in first team football. I don't see many other sides who would make him a first team regular.

In addition, Monty's wage demands are unlikely to be that high. If they were, we'd have got rid of him already I assume.

I would be surprised if a deal is not struck before next season.

The club seems to have money issues and has more important things to spend money on - most importantly we will need 2 or 3 new defenders for next season, with no Killa, Walker and (probably) Naysmith. It's not a disgrace, just good business.

bloke in the crowd said the other week.. 'eeh if that lad could pass he'd be worth millions'.. to which i replied.. if that lad could pass he wouldnt be playing for us.

You are quite right. Blackwell is very comfortable with mediocre battlers like Monty in his team. He does not understand the notion of footballing talent or creativity. He had (and has) none himself and the very idea terrifies him.

I wont hear a word against him. He cant pass, cant head, cant shoot, but if you have been to Ashton Gate and the deluge at Plymouth, you will have seen what Monty is all about, sheer bloody 'dog'. He protects his back four and covers every inch of the pitch, and if that nasty post hadnt gotten in the way on Saturday, he would have had the goal he deserved. If he doesnt get a new contract there will be a riot, I will start it!

When all's said and done, it's not Monty who picks the teams or choses the tactics. He's given us everything he has, bravely and uncomplainingly, for his entire career. How many players can we say that about?

To be fair to his message board nemesis, Pinchy, he's anti what Monty's selection represents, not anti the man himself. In fact I reckon he'd turn up to his testimonial, probably in disguise...

;)

Whilst you are starting the riot I shall be hiring the stretch limo to take him anywhere he wants to go.

Only SUFC fans would be so effusive about a player who 'cant pass, cant head, cant shoot'. They do say you ultimately get what you ask for. You've got Monty.

Perhaps more of us should demand better?

Thanks JD. You are absolutely right. I genuinely admire Monty. I have often said his commitment, drive, fitness and endeavour are second to none. I really do wish he was a good footballer. I shall support him 100% during the match tonight, as ever.

Now then, about Stephen Quinn....................
