Strikers are different. Less tactical, just make runs and hope someone picks you out.

There always an exception, it's football.

I can remember my reaction to Davidson being named on the RS commentary and going ballistic at the radio about the club messing things up and not having a clue about what they were doing. I mean who brings in an unknown for such a critical game?

Turned out nice though.

Add Gary and Phil Neville to that list. However, these are players that have had excellent work ethics and coaching from a young age. When a player is in their 30s, (Collins, McEveley, Higdon, JCR etc) it is unlikely a new manager will get significant improvement out of them. Sometimes giving offensive players freedom and confidence can still help their game but they're unlikely to be completely transformed.
Three of the four have played quite a lot in the championship though so it isn't a question of vastly improving their technique.

It's a matter of organising them properly, working on things like set pieces and patterns of play, playing them in their correct positions and not asking them to do things they're not good at.

And if what they bring to the team isn't what NA wants, if their style of play doesn't fit, getting rid.

I'll end on a mixed metaphor. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear but you don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Not that unknown tbf.

At any rate, this deal might have already been registered at any time before now during the day, but simply hasn't been announced. Perhaps Adkins has managed to keep Radio Sheffield quiet in exchange for a Football Heaven exclusive announcement.

I will continue to clutch at any straws left on this one...

well not really spending any money its loans, a free trial
and Adkins has made it clear hes been given the money , I dont see why these comments persist

I suppose because we've had money to spend for years but often don't seem to get around to actually doing it !!
Or we do it 5 months too late .....

22 days later than expected but there will have been reasons and better late than never. Glad we didn't panic and bring in a Michael Tonge or the like, no disrespect to Tongie, but we need to move on and all those Luddite Blades fans take some convincing. Personally I had faith in our manager and the commitment of the Board is hardly in question thankfully.

Agree , but its amazing what differance it makes when Adkins has to walk in to the board room with a sawn off shot gun , and letter of resignation to finally gets what he wants , and us fans know what we want.

You couldn't make it up.

If you genuinely think The likes of McEveley will improve at this point...
Yes, that's not going to happen - though over time the manager gets to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the whole unit, and the best way that they can work together tactically. That happens no matter what the age of the players.

Wayne Alliaon probably had his most productive spell, as a player, with us. I bet he was a better player 10 years earlier.

The deal was probably struck on Monday but no need to register or announce it till Tues keeps the opposition guessing.93 days means he can stay for most of Jan before a deal has to be struck to keep him for the rest of the season (take. Over his contract which will be expensive)well done Adkins and the Board.

For whatever reason, something to do with Ranieri I hear, we couldn't do the deal on 28th September ( 93 days to take us through to January), but better late than never.

We have to remember Hammond will take a while to get match fit and maybe the partnership with Coutts will have to wait until then. In the meantime I'd love to see Reed play alongside Hammond.
