New training building

We should have seen progress on this by now. The players are right to speak out, as was the former manager.
If the plans are in place and this is right and we are waiting on the council, the players should stick to what they know about and not drag the club through the mud.

Norwood pocketed a fine salary last season for being slightly better than wank. Generally speaking, for large chunks of last season, he could barely do the basics of a PL level midfielder. Specifically, his overall set piece delivery was poor, his ability to beat the first man at corners was woeful. I seriously doubt the facilities at Shirecliffe had any affect on this.
You forget in your criticism that he really isn't a PL level midfielder, and by and large our players weren't on PL level wages either - As shown by our wage totals compared to the other teams.

According to some, Wilder was making it all up about being frustrated about the lack of improvements with the facilities when he left.
If players are starting to speak out about it now too, that's not good.
Also like Wilder players at many other clubs are used to better facilities, makes an easier sell of the club if you've got better to show.
Not making it all up just that we listened to our owner saying covid delayed it which is fair. If nothing in next 12 months about is worrying I must admit

If that is true then everyone needs to sit and wait on the council. Sheffield Council are far from great, so we could be waiting a while sadly.

Players need to focus on the football whether they are playing in the park or at our out of date training ground.

How dare anyone at the club ever say anything not positive about the state of things. Dragging us through the mud. I mean really what's Norwood ever done for us?

He played the best part of 40 games the previous season and was more than competent at that level. Last season for whatever reason he wasn't. He's also played the best part of 60 times for NI, so the lad isn't park pitch standard.

At what salary level do you expect a professional footballer to be able to consistently place a ball at the corner flag and deliver it into the danger area? Norwood must be on between £25k to £35k a week. i reckon that should buy you the basics.

As I mentioned in shoutbox earlier, the only interviews I want to hear the players give this pre-season are ones of fucking penitence; both collectively and individually. Not bitching about the state of Shirecliffe.

If we'd put up more of a fight last season & stayed in the PL, it may have meant that the works were done. Who knows.

This thread is a brilliant illustration of how quickly a lot of fans have gone from loving this team and Wilder to totally forgetting everything that's been achieved and to seemingly hating them and blindly siding with the Prince over everything. Not surprised I suppose but it's quite sad.

The PR job that the Prince has done has been quite incredible - can you imagine after the Palace away game in 2020 if someone had told you that less than 18 months later there would be a significant number of people who would be rabid in their hatred of Wilder and the team and would believe everything the Prince said without question?

In my opinion, the training facilities are an utter disgrace and represent the biggest missed opportunity for the club in recent times.

When was the last time that you toured the facilities & it what way are they a disgrace? Which ones have you been to that are better & in which way?

Plans were and are still in place to upgrade those facilities. I'd be more worried if there were no plans at all in place to upgrade anything.

Couldn't agree more with this. It's embarrassing.

There’s a middle ground here. Norwood’s right that this needs sorting. He’s wrong to be complaining to the media about it.

Must be down to getting sand and cement delivered for building work not starting, yeah that'll be it.

Reported in the main stream media weeks ago, shortage of building materials, and countless big companies (house builders) were warning of laying people off,, in our case we are no where near ordering or waiting on materials, those things actually come with estimated delivery dates, we are waiting for planning permission and the city council to get its arse in gear re land they 'acquired' adjacent to the site (presumably the ex health authority buildings/land) from the Government, that's now in their ownership and would have to be sold.

Thanks Jim
We shouldn't be worried though, quite recently due to changes within the City council, they are far more proactive regarding allowing planning permission,, just last week they approved the plans for a Castle to be built in the city centre, and they were only submitted in 1175.

Arguably the worst player at the club last season

You haven't read the Mousset threads or the the Ramsdale threads or the McBurnie threads or the Brewster threads have you?

Various 'big Blades' who have done a bit more than your one single post, have been making strong cases for other players.

You are clearly going to have to up your ante, if you want to get into serious Norwood slagging territory.

This should be in place by now construction industry hasn't stopped since then really.
Interesting it says in this article too that it's built off site to minimise disruption and speed up the process.
I'm gonna say I reckon it's not yet started to be built and no foundations are down either.

Perhaps Ollie shouldn't mention anything and just get on with it, but could be that if they've been promised and asked about it for past 18months and still no sign of anything, maybe mentioning it to the media puts the light back on it.
It certainly suggests that there was something in Wilder's complaints regards training facilities too.
I think plans were shelved for that particular development.

I could be wrong here but planning permission was granted from the council for this in November 2020

It's a conditional grant, however the club agreed to these conditions it would seem too also in November

There has been discussion about parking but I think agreeing to these conditions means this is sorted too as plan.

Interesting snippet from one of the emails too regards the clarifying the new building use. It would appear we all know it's run down and substandard.

"In terms of the proposed new training building for the first team I would stress, as we have in the supporting information submitted with the application, that this is not a new use to the site. The First Team already train at the site and use a run down building to the rear of the one proposed. The new building and associated parking will replace a substandard exiting facility. It therefore won’t attract more users to the site, but will enhance existing training facilities."

I think plans were shelved for that particular development.
Were they? When? I know the club are looking at relocating the academy potentially to Norton. But still thought this was in the plan?

Just something I heard mate. Not certain on it. But wouldn’t surprise me as it did seem like a bit of a stopgap development.

The new Council leader seems to be making rash decisions left, right and centre. Possibly before the committee model that the city voted for kicks in, and reduces his power. So in terms of the decision at Norton, it could land either way depending on if he's a Blade or a Pig.

Your forgetting Dr Evil himself Lundstram.

Planning permission was granted by the council in Nov 2020, the only people dragging their heels are SUFC.
See 20/02590/FUL planning application on the SCC planning portal https://planningapps.sheffield.gov.uk/online-applications/searchResultsBack.do?action=back

To be fair. David will know about the condition of the site.
The big question is - why the lack of investment.

Her. She's.

Norwood- 'I think we deserve rewarding for where we've put the club...'

Signed him upon being promoted to the Championship and we are now where Ollie?

In the championship with parachute payments having earned £200m+ in the last 2 seasons.

Said nothing wrong here. anyone who has travelled to watch the kids play at academy level knows our facilities are woefully inadequate in comparison to other clubs who aren't even at our level. I was an academy player between 2000-2003 and I played at numerous clubs that had better facilities then than we do now near 20 years later.

Not just about the weekday sessions and the medical rooms either, facilities play a huge part in recruitment. as a parent you need to choose your kids secondary school, you view the 2 local secondary schools, one has state of the art facilities in every department and is set amongst rolling hills the other is in the middle of a council estate and looks like a converted social club what school do you choose?

Thankfully our reputation at developing kids proceeds us and kids and their families choose us over them lot, that and their facilities are even worse. But when it comes to recruiting first-teamers it's a serious handicap.
