New shirt numbers for next season

No, not in that sense - because that'd imply that I knew who was on the retained/released list.

Instead, it's only mildly interesting. The Football League have released a new numbering style for next season, see below. I personally like it, much better than the old template. Numbers will change in colour to correspond to teams' kits.

Why would we want 11 men all called 'Player'?

This will simply drive up wage inflation for anyone called Player and everyone else will be rushing to change their name.

Can't we just go back to numbers on stripes that John Motson moans about reading?

Would have thought the powers that be have far more pressing matters than doodling some new ways of writing a number and putting it on shirts for next season. No doubt graphic designers will have been paid handsomely as well as an expensive study to determine the impact if we changed them followed by a 2 week summit in the Seychelles to all agree upon it. They're will be some serious back patting going on! Well done gentlemen!

Then you could bring back the good old 1 to 11 and we would know were their supposed to be playing even if they don't.....
