I see from the official SUFC website that the blades have taken down www.sufcdirect.co.uk today for a complete revamp and a new upgraded version of the shop will go live tomorrow at the same address.

Now am I being optimistic or does this pave the way for the launch of a new kit?

It makes sense for the club to improve the online shop as most people buy online these days and I for one would probably purchase my new shirt online as opposed to heading down to the club shop at BDTBL.

I know this is kicking against the pricks and pointlessly standing against the tide of the uber-marketisation of football, but why is the issue of a new shirt a thing to be optimistic about? Last year's shirt was perrfectly serviceable, why do we need a new one?

They used to last 2 seasons now its every season. Rather buy a poloshirt myself.

The last time we had a shirt that lasted 2 seasons was the Triple Assualt shirt (2002-04). We really started pissing around with the shirt in 1975 and the longest lasting shirt since then is the one we had from 1983-87.

It's interesting question as to how this mania for buying a new shirt every season arose. Obviously, the clubs (and companies) would not issue the shirts unless people were willing to buy them.

Werent Man Utd the first to start replacing shirts every year? the rest just followed because they can.
You dont have to buy the kit of course but try telling a 7 year old to make do with last years. I havent bought one in years. Although I do have the home shirt from 11/12 season as I was bought it for my 40th

Indeed.

I have only ever possessed 4 United shirts:

1973: bought for me when I was 7.
1981-83: the 4th Division shirt, bought by my parents as an Xmas present
1997-99: spotted going for a fiver in 2000 in a shop in Oxford Street
2009-10: bought for me as a present.

It' s just occured to me I have never personally paid full price for a United shirt.

It'll be closer to the start of the season.

If they brought out a decent shirt that lasted a couple of seasons then I would be more than happy with that but to be fair the shirts of the last 10 years haven't been the best. Looks wise the best shirt in recent years for me has to be last season mainly down to it's retro styling.

If United were to bring out a good quality shirt that doesn't wear or fade and one that looked the part which for me would be stripped back to basics with retro styling then I would wear it for several seasons.

That said as a football club they rely on the money generated from replica kits and merchandise. As one of the cheaper clubs ticket wise I don't feel we are being totally hard done by and I have no real quarrels with the club bringing out a new kit every year in the same way as every one of the other football league clubs if it means our tickets prices stay low.

I am not opposed to the club changing the kit regularly every year to two.

I just wish they looked better and were made better to justify the stupid price tag they are given.

I can't wait for the revamp of the online superstore.

I wonder If we're going to stick with the '90s bloke with a Vespa again...?

New look site is now up and running..... Replica shirts page has last seasons black and orange and white 3rd shirts but no home shirt.

There is a picture that says Macron & "available from saturday" but it doesn't link anywhere at present.

Cheers

I'm going to float this one by you. If I go into a shop and think the shirts are shit quality I don't buy them. Just thought this might help a few people while they go through the annual drama of whether to buy the new shirt or not.

Foxy, any chance we can have a section of the site for shirt design and quality all of its own? ;)
