In my opinion we’ve really missed an opportunity to reward long-suffering fans by not maintaining as many of the matchday costs as possible in light of the large influx of cash. Instead of that we seem to be basically ratcheting up anything we’re selling – basic ticket price, membership price (while at the same time reducing its worth), food & drink, even the programme. I don’t recall us doing this quite as drastically on everything last time we came up to this league. In fact I thought we kept everything very affordable.

We got a massive reward with season ticket pricing. That could have been a really easy cash-in , and instead we got better value tickets than many pay right down the leagues.

I actually suspect that this is a reason why so much of the other stuff has gone up. Which while I’m sure is fine for those lucky enough to get a season ticket is a bit of a punch to the kidneys for those that were unfortunate to miss out and are now finding costs on everything on a matchday rise. I think it’s been a good thing that the club has performed well in recent years on things like The Price of Football – it would be a shame to lose that.

United won't be getting £100m this season. It will be more like £140m. The lower figure is oft quoted (correctly) as the minimum we'll get from Sky and the EPL. You're forgetting that on top of that we will be generating another £30-40m from ST sales, sponsorship, non-ST gate money, corporate, transfer sell-ons, catering, ground advertising etc.

If the £40m transfer tally you quote is correct, and I'm not disputing it, then there is no way United have paid £30m up front. Where on earth have you got that figure from? About a third of the total will be hitting United's account this year. The USG sponsorship was widely reported to be around £7m this year by the way.

United having a wage bill of £60m? No chance for now but maybe in a couple of years when the old guard are cleared out and replenished. To do that they will need to be paying their 25 squad members an average of £40k pw to get to £50m and even that allows another £10m for the rest of the operation.

What I reckon is that United are having difficulties coming to terms with the amount of money sloshing around as are a lot of our fans by the sounds of it. To help you along, we'll call it "old money" for when we were in L1 and "new money" for the Premiership, i.e., if you have a figure in mind, multiply it by 10. For example if United pushed the boat out for a player a couple of years ago we were looking at £1m old money. Now its £10m new money. If a player was on £4k pw old money, now its £40k pw new money. Shirt sponsorship we probably got around £700k. now its £7m. And so on. This is only a ball park calculation by the way but it should help you to adjust your small-time mindset and embrace the Premier League world we now live in.

Well thankfully the club have reversed their ticketing decision enabling more fans to go to the game this Sunday.

However this only adds to a worrying trend that has taken some of the shine/goodwill off SUFC.

1. Programs going up to £3.50 = Yes it's the first increase since 2004, and I don't buy them, but is it really necessary? How much more money are the club going to make off this across the season? Let's be generous and say 10,000 are sold a game (assuming none stop buying them), that's around £90,000 extra a season, chicken feed for the club. That's £9 extra season per fan, some of whom will be lucky to be paid that per hour in difficult economic times. Are there any extra costs attached in making the program? Are the new features really worth it? Posting this out on Twitter with a smiling face isn't exactly endearing either.

2. Prices for food/drink increasing = Now I appreciate that this is only a rumour from another thread, but again the same sort of formula/questions applies to first point. There have been complaints for years about the quality/speed of service I await to hear whether it will be up to scratch this time, and also whether the cashless policy is a success.

3. Cost of football shirts= This is more tricky as there are regulations with sponsors etc. However it's undeniable that more and more fans are getting fake replica shirts at a quarter of the price, and who can blame them? I don't condone it but again I ask, do they really have to be so expensive?

4. The ticketing fiasco. Firstly the membership card for £40 which appears by all accounts to be completely pointless and a rip-off as doesn't have any clear benefits. Then denying legitimate fans the chance to get in. They corrected the 500 point minimum policy (better late than never) but then used the club statement not to apologize/acknowledge their mistake towards those affected, but rather appear to put it on Crystal Palace for not selling out. We should have sorted this out weeks ago. Also the ticket office... it's understaffed and the staff that are there are often overwhelmed. No-one should blame the staff on the front line, they appear to be put out on a limb with no support except to rigidly stick to the script their managers (who are never available) give them.

The club may have benefited financially from our promotion, but we as fans haven't. Sheffield isn't the most affluent city in the country, just because you might be able to get away with these increases doesn't mean you should.

The fans have stuck with this club through the dark ages in League One and have arguably kept it afloat (someone who knows the accounts well can correct me), and I would have thought some of the super huge money we've got from TV/sponsorship deals could/would be set aside to freeze prices or at the very least not to rip people off.

There is much that the club has done right and should be/have been commended for, however I just wonder if this has either bred a little bit of complacency and/or neglect in some areas. I appreciate the ownership issue isn't very helpful but I can't see how it significantly affects these areas.

SUFC are lucky that football isn't like supermarkets where customers don't switch easily from Tescos to Lidl for example. However should these trends continue, and the other football teams in the region get a bit more savvy, you could see long term loss towards them from the next generation.

Idealisitcallly I agree with you....but it’s down to economics.....supply and demand. When demand is high prices rice....when demand drops then prices decrease with offers. People who can’t afford it, either don’t pay or look for cheaper alternatives ( and as you said you can’t blame them).

Also you title is inaccurate.....it’s PL both on and off the pitch.

You’ll find that it’s in league 1 where you find the best offers and cheap prices for loads of things.
Whilst most clubs in the PL charge a premium for everything, as I said it’s supply and demand.

Also whilst we’re in the PL there’s no way we’ll lose fans, Theresa loads of evidence showing that crowds remain high every season,
We might lose our low spending fans but these will be replaced by new high spending fans.

1. Yes, but more money overall for each fan to pay. Would fans prefer the current prices for what they get currently? I can't answer that, so I'll leave it open-ended
2. We shall see, will be happy to be proved wrong and will praise the club if the prices stay the same. It doesn't affect me again by the way.
3. How much more expensive? What net profit are the club making per shirt? Genuinely interested, don't see why fans need to have shirts that are super-aerodynamic anyway.

I’m very happy with the cost of my season ticket, I think the club have looked after me very well over the last few years and compared with a lot of other clubs, and not just in this division, I think we’re doing alright.
As for programmes going up by 50p, well you either buy one or you don’t. If as you state they haven’t gone up since 2004 that’s pretty good going by any standards, fifteen years without a price rise.
Food and drinks, I rarely buy much as I prefer the pub and the prices haven’t been confirmed anyway.
I do have to agree with you over the ticketing policy, that really needs looking at and sorting out but overall I’m quite happy with how the club is actually looking after the fans.
The most important thing though is that what’s going on on the pitch and I think we’ll all agree things haven’t looked so good for years.
