WHICH MANAGER

Aye, i can just see Stuart McCall giving up Champions League football next season for a stint in League 1.

Second place in the SPL this season doesn't get Champions League, they'll go straight into the Europa League Qualifiers if they finish second.

Not that it matters either way, they'll probably be pumped out by some Romanian/Czech/Moldovan mob at the first time of asking.

Not sure I understand the obsession with Crewe and their manager. They are 14th in an abysmal division. Yes, they outplayed us at the Lane but so did Hartlepool.....
yeah but their budget is around 50p and a mars bar.. their captain is 23 and the guy who won MoM at Wembley (ok it was only div4 oppo but we'd have bottled it) was too young to drink the champagne he won.. they totally outplayed us at the lane.. plus it was watchable.
it is the 'ethos' we need to buy into.. top to bottom.. ask Swansea

Which of the following STDs would you prefer:

Syphillis

Gonnorhea

Herpes

Chlamydia

Genital Warts

Hepatitis B

Remember, this is a public poll. Your vote will be visible for others to see, even if your chosen disease is not.

Syphillis. If it was good enough for Lord Randolph Churchill it's good enough for me.

McCabe has more or less said the next manager needs to use the academy more. As fans, I think that is a sentiment we all buy into rather than loaning in crap kids from other clubs or signing journeymen/has beens - we've tried it too many times now and quite simply, enough is enough, just look where it has got us as a starting point.

Take a look at the Crewe team - skipper is 23, they play a fairly decent brand of football and a have a budget nowhere near the size of ours. Over the 2 games against us this season, they have taken 4 points out of 6, not bad for a mid table team in an abysmal division you might say.

I just think we need a completely fresh approach with someone who is not connected to the club in any way or means at all. Steve Davis fits the bill for me and I think he could well be the man to take us forward and out of this league in the right direction next season, I won't hold my breath though.

Well, I'll have to close the poll reasonably soon.

Unless supporters of the other fancied contenders take the plunge, pull their fingers out and get voting, syphillis will run away with it and become the official S24SU STD for 2013.

It's in your own hands!

I agree with all you say, but it will never work. A man like that will just not get the time.

The fans said they wanted an end to the blood and thunder style of the Bassetts, Warnocks and Blackwells. We got Wilson. We had one cracking season, we lost key players, the results stopped coming for a few months and then it was all moaning and groaning.

As soon as it starts to go a bit wrong, they start demanding "passion" and "pride" and all of those meaningless things that are no substitute for "ability". If we weren't top six at Christmas, he'd be out on his arse. Guaranteed.

Les Ferdinand fave with bookies!! WTF!! Has he ever managed before???

Striker coach at Spurs apparently. My how we needed one of those this season!!!!

The football philosophy of a manager should not change depending on losing players.

Wilson might still have a job if he hadn't changed the way the team played, it was his choice not to continue with the passing and start with the boring defensive shit.

He always tried to keep it tight. The attacking part came easier with Willo, Quinn, Lowton and Evans in the side. I don't think he changed his basic approach to the game.

I'm a bit worried that running two polls on the same thread is causing confusion.

Paddy Power have just made Syphillis 5/2 favourite to be our next manager. Meanwhile rumours on Twitter suggest that Wally Downes is to be named STD of the Year 2013.

I didn't know Downs was sexually transmitted...

It's a shame that once again the debate is reduced to one of "passion" V "calmness", "hoof" V "patience", "tempo" V "style".

It's really possible to have a blend of these things. What's more, we shoudn't limit oursleves to such extremes. You should be pragmatic about what your team is capable of, play to its' strenghs and gradually build towards whatever your overriding principle is, rather than insist on it no matter what players you are stuck with.

I can feel the same momentum building with the drive to rely on youth. If they're better than what's available, then get them involved. If not, don't.

It's probably the limitations of message board discussion at work, but we're not in a position to place ourselves under such limitations, and it's not in our interests to do so.

I'm unfortunately inclined to agree with you on most of those points if I'm honest.

But, if we can see changes are at least trying to be made then surely fans wouldn't turn that quickly?

Wilson changed our footballing philosophy last season and (rightly) the fans backed him and the team. The only reason I think we eventually lost patience in Wilson was because we had gone back to the usual sell the best players and buy a journeyman route along with rubbish loan signings (granted this wasn't all Wilsons fault, or at least certainly the selling of the best players part wasn't) and the football was bloody dire to say the least in the end so it's no wonder he was turned on.

If this season had happened using more of our academy products, well who knows, I for one would have had a bit more patience and understanding if that was the case. As it stands, my faith in the club is at an all time low and things simply have to change in the running and ethos of the club. This "Blades Way" just simply is not working.

With regard to the bit about academy kids, I can never quite understand this. Why should we be more patient because we're integrating academy kids? The club is in a shit state and needs promotion as soon as possible.

I paid for a season ticket this season, is it unreasonable to expect success and entertainment now? It's like buying a cake before it's been baked. If I buy a cake, I want it then, not in five years time when it might turn out alright or it could be a bag of shit. I'd also have had to buy a further five cakes (season tickets) subsequently before I could enjoy the successful one.

I thought Speed was too slow for us and we carry on signing these old men - fuck em, let em have their last pay day somewhere else.

Any signings should be up and coming players and if the scouts can't find em fuck them off as well.
If we do sign old it needs to be someone like Phil Neville who could be club/team captain but give him a fitness test first. If a young winger knocks it past him and he can't win the foot race then fuck off.
The academy should add to the team if they are good enough.

Most of all we need a management structure that says:

We play football here, we close down the opposition and we leave nothing in the changing room.

How difficult can it be?

watching man utd cxlinch the prem titlke with a hat trick from RVP you think what good management just spending 25 million on his fee and 4 million a year on wages for 5 years , another 20 million, so 45 million on one member of the squad and you think why didnt Danny Wilson do that

thats our trouble not enough risk taking

Looking at where we need to concentrate on improvement in players I am now thinking maybe McCall is the right man for this job considering 3/4 current midfielders are Scottish plying their trade here. I know McCall is from Bradford however I imagine he has worked with quite a few guys who have settled down south.

Personally I don't think we need to rip up this team, just ditch the over 30's and start afresh

I would no more include Hoof in my footballing blend than cyanide in my coffee.

Where would this season's "football" rate? Surely behind squeezing your bollocks in a vice?

I take two half-bricks into the ground with me. Helps take my mind off the game.

The next new manager is................................................................

not going to be Chris Wilder as he's just signed a contract extension with Oxford (SSN 25 April).
