Cannot believe the criticism he has already gotten. What an absolute joke. I am actually ashamed of some of our fan base at times. He was getting slagged off yesterday before even touching the ball, wtf is all that about?

It could be because a couple of my mates thought it was Connor Sammon coming on and that he’d just got a tan.

Got
The word "gotten" isn't made up. I should really have used a word like "recieved" but let's be honest, this place isn't exactly known for its perfect use of English.

Gotten isn't made up or an Americanism it's old English.

I assume you have googled this so won't dispute. But we don't say it now do we?

Apparently 'Fall' was used here instead of 'Autumn' in days gone by.
Same principle. Yanks use it, we don't. ok sirrah ? (old English for sir).

No, I knew it anyway. I tend to read a lot of stuff unhelpful in the modern world other than on forums. Lots of words now termed american isms are old English words that have fallen out of use here over the years.

Sirrah is used when addressing someone considered to be younger or of lower standing than yourself, so thanks :)

I used to like "chapel hat pegs", but now I'm a "baps" man.

Baps......classic.

To be honest, I'm glad he has a bit of belief and might have a bit of fight in him, if it washes off on the rest of them we could go on a run and make play offs and more

Ever the optimist

Agree with Baps . He didn't play like a tit to me and he has a point . Play offs are still possible.

Carry on Up The Blades. All is not lost , Adkins now has to earn his corn as we have flat lined.

He now knows what is what . Fleetwood result has to be the defining moment . Adkins must be fucked off a much of us fans , and hand on heart can Adkins sort the squad out next season. I think deep down he is starting to doubt it himself.

Our League One trips to Lancashire this season hardly inspire confidence: Blackpool 0-0, Bury 0-1, Rochdale 0-2. (Although we did manage to score a goal at Morecambe in the League Cup.) The performances at Bury, and just down the road at Crewe, were arguably our worst of the season. Yorkshire, Yorkshire!

I don't know about any stick before he touch the ball unless its because he has been injured all season, but he did have a dreadful debut. He basically did everything wrong!

Think best defender I ever saw for us played 5 games and we signed him when he was 38. If it wasn't for his dodgy knees, I think he could have played on forever - best reader of the game I have ever seen from a central defender. Think most older posters will know who I mean.

I have my tin hat on ready for the onslaught !!

However, I thought that Baptiste was not nearly as bad as many are making out.

OK I concede that the vertical clearance was comical and very reminiscent of the legendary Bomb scare aka Nyron Nos !!

But I thought he handled the tricky number 10 much better than Brayford did.

Just me ??

dronnie , just you mate.

Baps - some mothers do have em.

In being serious I rember him playing championship footy and thought he was class , that's why Borough will have bought him . Could be good when he settles down and realises the situation at the lane. More a asset than a. Liability to me.

I felt sorry for him having to make his debut in that game.

He wasn't great, but then no one was, and I certainly won't write him off after 30 odd minutes.

Was it his first game back from injury too?

Some hilarious miss kicks though, made the night more enjoyable.

Well that's depressed me to be referred to as an older poster - it was only 1997!

I'd agree with that Pete. His comedy cameo was one of the funniest things I have seen, made my night in all honesty as everything else was just an abyss of nothingness and confusion.

My favourite trick was when he caught his own mis-kick. He was like Bomb Scare and Comedy Claude all rolled into one.

I think we should study this loan deal.

Baptiste is ex-Premier League with Blackpool and Holloway called him his "best ever defender" at one time. He served B'pool well but the club declined and he took a good move to Bolton and played a full season. Bolton also declined ( both declines not down to Baptiste surely!!) and Baptiste then played a good season at Blackburn on loan. Blackburn have a history of solid central defenders and Baptiste moved on to the progressive Championship club Middlesbrough but he broke his leg within a few days in a friendly.

Middlesbrough have one of the tightest defences in the Championship and Baptiste was destined to be part of it until he got injured. He now needs games and he has possibly missed the boat within the Boro squad which has developed so much this season.

Anyway I reckon this is the first signing under Turnbull. I do not think we should lose sight of that fact. I have been waiting for some sort of sign what makes Turnbull tick and what his brief is. Let's face it he has a lot of work to do for next summer.

There is enough time left in the season to have a look at Baptiste. He is experienced and is only 30 years old. Maybe he could become a key man for us for next season.

Some of the comments on this thread simply reflect the frame of mind of various fans, one or two who should know better. Any new player deserves respect, especially one who is playing his first game after a double fracture of his leg. He may not be the type of player fans had hoped for but so many have been saying for months, maybe years we need proper defenders. Baptiste can play across the back line and has played his career above our level..
