New investment to be announced?

Referring to the filth seems to be the default reply to serious investment.

As I said, where's the money lay coming from. There doesnt appear to be any new investment so the point still stands. If our owners stay, what's your solution, save "put more munni in"?

There isn't one, we will keep ticking over hoping for Wilder to turn straw into gold.

I guess if I Think about it by Pop I don’t really mean bust. But take Norwich for example they are losing huge amounts and are shedding players to try relieve the financial pressure, if expect them to go down next year. A number of clubs nose dive due to financial miss management. I guess this is what I really mean.

But the problem is for every Norwich that are reducing their outgoings, there is a Wolves with new owners spending big money.

We can only work with the budget we have, but unfortunately it will only take us so far.

I would rather slowly slowly catchey monkey than boom & bust spending.Keep hold of CW keep improving the squad and if we don' make the play offs this year then we will in next few years .Hardly any championship managers get poached by PL ( pigs an exception) so CW should be around for a while
.Ave championship wage is 15k a week so it ain' a cheap passion for investors .

Be patient good times are already here and will get better under CW.

Is it fair to say that in the current climate/system, clubs like United have 4 possibilities?
1. Sell to a wealthy owner.
2. Gamble by spending big money we don't have.
3. Spend virtually nothing.
4. Spend limited amounts of affordable money (mainly the owners' money), and aim to build a squad strong enough to mount a promotion challenge.
Option 1, if possible, still carries large risks. Option 2 offers a chance of instant success, but the likelihood of serious decline. Option 3 virtually guarantees decline. Option 4 is what we have, and looked at over the last 18 months, is going well. For it to work, the owners have to keep their nerve, and Wilder and a range of key personnel have to continue to overachieve. I can envisage a situation where we have a good defence and midfield (we are there now?), but in this option, getting strikers who are outstanding is a real challenge. We couldn't afford Hugill or Madine on yesterday's prices, and neither of them would improve on what we have.

Maybe it would help if we increased all the season ticket and match-day prices in response to the better football in the higher division and the higher attendances? :)
Wouldn't that be the ambitious business thing to do?

Point 4. appears to be the most likely, and we need to maximise the players brought through the academy & sweat those assets. We have as good a record as any in recent years & that needs to continue. Somebody posted a video on here about how chelsea had switched the purpose of their academy to producing players to sell as opposed to playing for the club, which I thought was interesting.

We also need to spread the net wider on our scouting into europe. This was mentioned in KM's pre season Q&A, and obviously carries risks. A lot of what CW has done has been done with british lower league players, players he either knows about or knows someone who knows about them and a strong team spirit, bringing in players from other leagues may disrupt the dressing room dynamic. The next area of strengthening will be upfront, and this transfer window has shown with the sale of tyler roberts, hugill & madine and the bids for Marriott where the market is for our level of payer. We haven't got that sort of money, so CW will have to be shrewd.

We also need to churn the squad if needs be, as much as I hate some of our previous selling of the family silver, I'm not against it if the money is re-invested and CW is happy with the deals.

Finally, the commercial/off field revenue streams need to be maximised, and we should aim for a concert & boxing match every year. We've got to perform as smart off the field as we do on it. It's a big boys league & the club as a whole needs to step up. Whether that be hospitality, catering, merchandise, pre-season tours, etc. Not wishing to criticise the unduly, but the malaga pre-season trip was a missed opportunity.

How many other clubs can say the same?.

This model hinges on Chris being happeh and he's been backed and only 18 months in. This Summer will be a telling one as we do need to hang on to Brooks (and a few others who've outperformed for the last 18 months JoC, Fleck, Bash) and replace Sharp and crucially not lose Chris.

Dependent on who comes down will be a big factor. Plummeting stones like Sunderland have been please. Boucebackability like Palace no ta.

Finally, it's been a blast and I feel spoilt with the last 18 months of my Blades life. Yes I want the best but come on let's realise what we've achieved,

Too right. For whatever reason, we've always had to do it the hard way. But it suits us to be the underdogs battling away, deserving every success . Not saying I wouldn't take some outside investment in the team though. It doesn't have to be 100's of millions. Just enough to bring in a couple of proven game changers.

If you visit Barcelona as a POD you will be paying between £70 & £150. That's for one game. Forget about the cheap tickets (they're about £50 by the way) as they're always "sold out" if you turn up as a tourist. Dunno about Bayern as I haven't been but I have been to Barca. The so called cheap tickets are a fucking fallacy.

In any event Barca have a worldwide profile with numerous income streams and get to negotiate their own TV rights which means they're one of the richest clubs in the world and ticket prices is only a small part of that.

Foreign ownership is something I have pondered, but in all honesty I do not want 'Hoo Flung Dung' owning SUFC & making decisions from Nanking. I'm not bothered how much money they have, I would like someone who is from the UK & is a football supporter, preferably of SUFC!

There are plenty of examples of foreign owners who have started to withdraw once things go badly. I 've not always been a fan of KM, but he has stuck with us through some bad times [yes some were of his own making, but we all make bad decisions], & for that I give him credit.

So I guess that I'm saying lets keep the same model we have, speculating occasionally but being careful at others.

If we do I'm tipping promotion in 2020. You heard it here!!

It's be interesting to see who it is that can buy the cheap season tickets.

Mr Hoo Flung Dung,I am outraged, it is 2018 after all.

And you, a man of the cloth.

It doesn't add up does it? A POD ticket costing more than a ST.

Locals. Members & supporters clubs get the discounted ST's and then sell on the individual less attractive games to tourists. If you've been to any of Barca's home games, at least 40% are tourists. It's like the footballing equivalent of Disney World.

It's down to McCabe and the Prince then?

Agree, at Real Madrid and Barcelona, the season tickets are virtually sold out for the whole stadium.
The locals buy them and they are very cheap, compared to UK prices.

The locals then have the option to sell their tickets back to the club for a small fee, so the club can then sell them on. Match day tickets for tourists or casual fans are usually really expensive, dependent on demand.

It often used to confuse me to see reports that Barcelona have 90,000 season ticket holders and another 50,000 members
But some of their league attendances are often as low as 40 or 50,000 (half full stadium).

Barcelona are on par with Man Utd for self mythologising. More than a club? Perhaps once upon a time, but nowadays? No chance. They've been bought & sold and bought & sold again. Same with the city itself. They bottle the myth at source & sell it on to the gullible. I watched their game last night, 1st leg of the league cup semi final against Valencia and the stadium was half empty.

I've never seen a breakdown of season ticket prices for Barcelona or German clubs. Just claims of these prices which never give any detail.

The ticket prices I quoted were from Barca's OS and matched the prices I was offered from their box office when I turned up at their ground. As I said, the cheap tickets mantra is a myth.

Interesting, good bit of research. Just had a quick scan at the Spanish ones and it doesn't address the question as to who is eligible for the cheaper tickets. This aside, the premiership ST's (excluding the big three in London) stack up favourably against these. Median prices would answer the argument but how you'd figure these out I don't know. Can't open the German one btw.

Exactly. Just a list. No detail other than price.
