And l never said you did. I said he wasn’t very good. That’s a big difference. Others, far better players managed far more appearances. Anyone with a handful could be said to have helped us. It’s the nature of the job.
He was largely a back up player, as I recall. Given that we barely had a budget for the first team at the time, we weren’t likely to have top quality in a back up role. For what he was and what he was required to do he did ok. Funnily enough, that was my dad’s opinion on Tommy Hoyland.

Every squad needs a mix of star players, solid regulars, squad players and emergency back-ups. Hoyland was a decent squad player, particularly given our budget at the time (see also Paul Rogers, Mike Lake etc.). The original implication from Baltic Blade was that he didn't really do anything (I think you're suggesting the same). I disagree.

I don’t think he “didn’t do anything”, I referenced his best spell. I just think he wasn’t that good. I can’t make it any plainer.

I can’t help what you post but l can comment on it.

Thought you may get used to having your detailed analyses of, well, anything “Bettis is shit” with lots and lots of other words. Your track record of understanding threads isn’t great let’s be honest.

Football, l do. More often than not though whilst at the game. You should try it.
Ooh , Silent , there you are again !

Quite the tag team aren't you ?

Terminally stupid I am not , so if you feel entitled to make such comment , I will respond.

Anyone else remember Hoyland as a player? I could never work out what he did, apart from pop up out of nowhere every now and then to score a goal.

He was a decent second tier player giving 100% for us in the top flight. Wasn’t quick but had a good touch and passing range.

His best game for us was as a sweeper in the 0-0 at Blackburn in the cup before we beat them on pens at the lane. He was awesome that day.

Jamie Hoyland had a number of attributes which should have contributed to him to becoming a very decent and influential player for us .

Unfortunately , these did not include any reasonable levels of determination and commitment which his dad Tommy was famous for and had in spades .

As a result , he became notorious among the vast majority of Blades fans at the time for disappearing for long periods in many of the matches he played for us .

In this respect , he came a poor second to the likes of Paul Thirwell and Dean Hammond both of whom gave masterclasses in this art , but the idea that he ever gave 100 % for us in any game is fanciful , to say the least.

2nd place to Thirlwell and Hammond.

Damning…

Watched that one in the big screen beamback at the Lane but remember nothing of the game
