I have to admire some of the optimism on this thread, especially Ashtonmashton, if we get promoted there is only Brighton as a potential new ground.

I've had the ticking off grounds discussion with loads of Blades over the years. My take on it is if you're counting new grounds then seeing United at Roker Park and SoL (for example) is 2 grounds, you're not counting clubs, you're counting grounds for pity's sake!

As for which games count, to me if it's the first team playing, or a first team fixture where the manager decides to put the reserves out (such as Piacenza away in the Anglo-Italian) then in both instances it's a tick on the new ground list. If any Blade has gone to watch United in some tin pot friendly they should be getting double points, not none, triple points if it's abroad surely!

With United I've seen the first team on about 120 grounds using my own very logical rules, f*** the 92 I say

heh. thanks mate. i knew you'd know.. that was 'some' team (awful) .. reminds me very much of the present line up.. speaking of Carlisle, i remember winning 3? nil there once first game of the season.. i think we got relegated.. it was in the middle of nowhere. donkeys in the fields round it.. bonkers

Indeed. First game on the 80-81 season - 16/8/80. We won 3-0. Hatton 2 and Peters scored. We won our first 3 games, our first 4 out of 5 and first 5 out of 7 and were toop of the league more or less from late August to mid September.

As you say, we ended up relegated.
