Just because one has a "right" to do something doesn't mean one should do it. I have the right to get myself blind drunk everynight whilst eating nothing but McDonalds, but I don't think it would be agood idea for me to do that.

I do - let yersen go for a change there Dazzler :D

You never know - he may perform better after the gnoshing

Have never and would never boo the team I support, they may be shit, make me mad as hell when they play shit, make me fume when I know a player is not playing as well as I know they can, but every week when match time comes around hope that this week is not going to be like last, hope this time my team come good if they don't I'll follow them next week and the week after that and the week after that and will do till I die, why cause I know no other way or club that I want to follow more than this one , for me living over here it would have been easy to change to any of the other clubs that people follow, Liverpool, any of the Manc or London or even the dirty's like my father and brother in law, maybe its the only tie with Sheffield that I have left now, I put on my Blades hat to go to work and don't give a fuck who anybody else follows, do I care bout Chelseas next manager or the boo's they give there current manager cause for some reason the manager they want has gone to Germany, naw mate, do I think the players we have are world beaters not a fuckin chance , but once they put on that red & white shirt there Blades end of, a clapper in some peoples eye's maybe so ,everybody may not agree with what I say or post here there entitled to tell me to fuckoff if they want and I'm sure some will, But once a Blade always a Blade in my eye's sure what the fuck else have I got to do with my time.

You're totally right Darren, but unfortunately some people do! ( Can't work out the McDonalds though) - I would have to be totally blind drunk to even attempt a McDonalds but even then it would still taste shite!
We have to face facts - there will be people that boo mistakes, probably out of frustration of how low we have sunk over the past few years, but unfortunately that's part of the package of being a Blades fan!!

Hey Dubbers - what happened to all the neat sentence structure and paragraphing that allowed me to make sense of your normally considered and well thought out input to this forum?

You've reverted and it's a challenge for me to summon the enthusiasm to read your stuff again now.

Sorry Ken, but I thought you liked it nice and tight. :p

all wilson has to do is tell the players to get stuck in, run themselves into the ground and look like they give a shit and they will get the backing of the fans it is that simple.. they don't have to win.. they just have to put a good effort in..monty made a career out of it
it is no coincidence the shit has hit the fan since we went top.. i think our team is complacent because on paper it is a championship line up.. the fault ultimately lies with the manager on this one

I think as a crowd WE are nervous hence the oft heard 'Get Rid' and the exaggerated showy upset expressed by head grabbing, standing up and swearing at every minor mishap from some of our brethren. I see and hear people in the crowd seeming to show off to each other just how scared they are, a kind of childish mass hysteria.

I have no doubt it transmits to the players. Obviously its not everyone and quite likely no-one who contributes here but I think a lot of grown men should actually grow up.

Got to say it was just bad play and bad luck that did for us in the end at Wembley but we (as a group) weren't half negative about being in the play-off final last year. Anyone disagree with that?

It can't have been good for the players' morale can it?

As a follower of the blades for over 40 years, it has been the norm to appreciate effort on the pitch, even if the player is not playing well, blades fans will always applaud someone who keeps running. What we are seeing now is too many players not giving 100% with a manager with no passion, and for that reason i will scream my disgust at them when they are playing for MY TEAM.

3rd. division players are I think, broadly speaking, as good at most of the core skills as their better paid colleagues higher up the league are.
What I see they lack is application, I suspect they don't train as hard, they don't concentrate as well, they are slower in mind and body AND they are not as psychologically resilient as the best players. Trouble is, because they aren't as self-confident as good players they are more likely to react negatively to abuse from the crowd.
It becomes a vicious circle and we all know of players who have lost confidence and wilted before our eyes, goalkeepers are the most obvious because their mistakes are the most 'catastrophic' (bearing in mind, its only a game btw).

its a blip , remember losing 1-4 at home to watford and the doom merchants saying we were more likely to be relegated than go up, so weve dipped a bit since losing Collins and Miller, ooh theres a shock

Who said we were more likely to be relegated?

its a blip ,
what is the next thing up from a blip?? when does this blip become.. ahem .. 'the next thing up from a blip'
we need to go on a Wednesday esque run now.. i'm not sure we can do it.. the pigs last season brought three players in which kickstarted their season

We're over half way through the season and must have played well in a handful of games so far, at the most.

Somebody said not to worry because we will definitely hit "form" soon as we haven't yet, like it is almost a given that we will do so. As above. We are over half way through the season so we have a good indicator of where we are and how good (or otherwise) we are. I don't think this much anticipated "form" is going to materialise. I think what we have seen so far is all we have got to offer.

We are one of the better teams, but my God, it's a shower of shit level. We've got one or two players capable of being stand-outs in this league such as Blackman and McDonald, I've only seen Murphy in the Yeovil game so far so it's too early for me to judge him, but the rest, in my view, are bang average.

There are a lot of teams in this division with mostly shite and one or two better players. We seem no different. I don't know where all this "we've got the best squad in the division" comes from. We've got a couple of the better players in the division, but that's as far as it goes.

I just hope Wilson can pick the poor dears' chins off the floor and get them working together and actually steer us back in the right direction. I don't think he's suddenly said "right then lads, all that good stuff we were doing last season, stop that, let's be shit and frail instead". It's just a pity we no longer have the personnel to play in that way, which is why we had to grind out results at the start of the season. We need to get back this. I'd rather us be dull and effective, just to get out of this pub league, then start to build an exciting team and squad.

Couldn't agree more. The potential to be a good team is one thing, actually getting out there and being a good team is another. It's not been a great season so far.

Now you say it, i swear i heard a distant cry of, 'Get him off, you're shite!!!!!' :D

the norm to appreciate effort on the pitch, even if the player is not playing well, blades fans will always applaud someone who keeps running.

Yet many fans abused Quinn,Monty,Collins and more recently Hill and Williams who all fit the criteria you mention

There are several factors on booing players. I believe a big one is jealousy. I think some fans are jealous of the life these footballers have, their incredible salaries and they fact they earn these by kicking a ball about and not working 12 hours in some shithole.

They are not allowed to be sad, nervous or short of confidence as they are not men, they are lucky t**** that dont have the right to be anything other than happy and on fire. The fact that we then have to part with over 20 quid to watch these massivley overpaid people play poorly doesnt sit well.

I am not saying this is right or wrong, just the way it seems.

I think it's more to do with the fact that sometimes players look like they don't care or aren't trying.

Maybe, like I say, I am not saying its right or wrong to form these opinions, just an observation. I think Cofie would be probably my sole example of someone who looked like they could'nt care less.

The management tries to get the players mentally right before every game. Is 'get stuck in and run yourself into the ground' always the best preparation?

When fans put a poor performance down to laziness, it is often the mental and tactical preparation that's not spot on. When things aren't working it can look likethe players are lazy, which is the reason why some fans resort to boo and abuse individual players (wrongly thinking they need a kick up the backside). I think it's that, rather than a pathological lack of empathy of said fans.

All this talk about how booing never helps is nonsense. I well remember verbally abusing Glyn Hodges for mailing it in during the 3rd round cup tie against Luton in 1992 and annoying him so much that he actually took the trouble to snap out of his torpor and give us the lead, after which he made a point of gesturing to us and mouthing an obscenity.

So there you go - a successfully delivered kick up the backside.

I assume if you did the same to Ryan Flynn he would cry.

a pathological lack of empathy of said fans.

I like that phrase.

It's funny, but one of the things that I dread is a former player coming back and getting stick (especially a forward) as you know the worse the abuse the greater the chance that they're going to score.
Part of the game is has always been sticking it up your detractors and celebrating like a banshee. Are the players so pathetic these days that they just curl up and weep instead? Was Paddy Kenny the last of the "fuck you" brigade with his faultless performance in Hoofy's last game?

As I was watching last nights League Cup Semi Final on TV I couldn't help but think that if that had been the Blades at half time they would have laid down and let Villa go through to Wembley
1-0 down being totally outplayed they rolled up their sleeves and got 'stuck in' Man for man they are not in the same street as Villa but in the second half they fought like Tigers - when did I last see that from United - a long time ago!
Perhaps Mr Wilson should use the DVD of that match as an example of bottle, determination, guts and heart - and by the way Matty Duke wasn't deemed good enough for us a cover keeper! Makes you think!
