Neal Maupay

Was out with a mate last night... he knows someone who knows someone who’s connected at the club. He’s been told that Maupay is on his way to us in January. Done deal apparently.

I took it with a huge pinch of salt... but thought I’d see if anyone else had heard this bull?

Think that ship has sailed.. And truth be told, I wouldn't want him now.

Really interesting article in the Telegraph today about Business Model FC - "best run club in the country."

I don't get it. All that data, money all approach etc and for what? To be in a shit soulless ground bobbing around in the championship? Where's the benefit.

Just laughed out loud when the commentators said they have a great business model. No one supports a business and sings about the latest balance sheet.

The benefit is a new ground ready for next season and a great shot and getting a top 6 place this season (possibly even top 2). Very few teams of their size would be able to achieve that without a benefactor

I don't have a subscription to the Telegraph, so this is only the headline:-

There was something in the Mail too. It’s bad that it’s gone public. I’m sure these things happen more often than we hear about but once it’s in the public domain it becomes difficult for either party to back down. It would be such a shame if it contributed to their relegation.

Be nice if one of our strikers could throw an arrogant strop at the moment.

Alas ........

Can anybody who watches a bit more premier league games than me tell me what has happened with him. Seemed excellent the year we went up and the first premier league season. Not alot of goals since looking at Wikipedia but still relatively young. Worth a punt or just not good enough?

No no a thousand times no
He could be one of those players that needs a arm round him abd the way we play if hecky sticks with the 3-4-2-1 would suit him
I would rather have him and brewster than McBurnie fighting for the central spot

Found his level. Not really good enough for Premier league but too good for EFL would be better for him to go to somewhere like France of Germany probably score a hat full there

Would want too much money based on how much he’ll be getting at Everton.

NEVER overpay for guaranteed mediocrity, even at his best he was never the dogs bollox in the prem. He was in a very good place at Brighton.

Someone like Adam Armstrong at Southampton is someone who impacts games much more for a poor team.

I think Maupay wouldn't be a bad shout if the stars aligned and the finances were right. But he wouldn't be my first choice for us to sign and would be more of a back up behind another new signing up top. I think he is a confidence player and perhaps injuries and lack of a real run in the teams he has been with have started to take their toll. He probably needs an arm around him and some one on one coaching to get him firing again. I'd be ok with this one but not as our only forward signing.

I agree with a lot of this. We probably need at least two strikers (depending on departures), if we build an ideal sized squad (which of course, we might not be able to financially).

We could do so much worse than having Maupay as one of 2 new strikers. He's got ability, just not a top Prem player so gets pelters I think. He'll have a point to prove, as would probably be his last chance at a Prem team.

agreed we definetly need 2 strikers to come in this summer and maupay would fit the sharpy role only niggle here might be the way his agent behaved with us when wilder had him lined up but think he could be a good fit for us
