Neal Maupay

If Brentford only win their usual 4 or 5 games away from home then they will never be promoted, even if you are strong at home you have to find a way of winning over ten away games.

20 million for Maupay or Mcburnie? I feel Brighton have got the better deal. Obviously if he didn't want to come its a mute point but I'm not convinced in McBurnie we've got what we needed.

Neither McBurnie nor Maupay have cost £20m yet. The add-ons might get it to that if they’re ever triggered.

20 million !

Lets see who scores the most goals Maupay or McBurnie lets hope its our man

I quite like Brentford and I hope they do well. Appreciate their fans coming on here to engage. Not enough of that really.

Reasons they appeal:

They are the underdog to a point in that division given where most of their history has been spent. Something that I can relate to in my time supporting United unfortunately. Sad that before my generation, born in 1976, we spent many years as a top flight team in contrast.

Their business model is something I can appreciate. And they get it right very often. They lost Sawyer's, but they got the lad from Fiorentina plus when I saw Dru Yearwood I remembered how Southend were ok losing Leonard because he was emerging. Well done there. Hopefully they don't lose Benrahma and Watkins because that's a lot of upheaval. But they do seem well stocked with Canos and also Mbeuno. Dragging in some 50 million in sales, if Benrahma also goes yet retaining fan optimism is no mean feet. But as a Brentford fan I suppose you remain intrigued by what next gem the stats bring up.

It must be slightly frustrating for them at times. If they kept Maupay, they could have looked at top 6 with more assuredness but I do like their style of play.

Thomas Frank also seems a decent guy and someone Wilder got on with.

Of course torpedoing Leeds' promotion was well received in these parts.

And last but not least, Red and White stripes. What's not to like!

All the best for the season and finishing well ahead of our lesser neighbours!

Scoring goals can be a false stat, it all depends on who makes the biggest contribution to help their team win matches.
I don’t mind Maupay outscoring McBurnie if it means we win more matches.

Agree, will be interesting to see who makes the biggest impact in the PL, can’t wait.
If they were both exactly the same price and salary I still can’t decide which one I’d chose.....probably McBurnie but it’s close.

Overall i think Maupay is the more tidier and dare i say it technically better player.

However, i would say that Mcburnie has more drive and determination to get the ball over the line.

Maupay's former manager chooses not to buy him. McBurnie's former manager chooses not to buy him and buys Maupay instead. Crazy world.
My money is on McBurnie being far more beneficial to us than Maupay will be to Brighton.

Oh dear wavy. I can hear the forum police in the distance!
The forum criminal will claim mitigating circumstances. 'But we were after Maupay so it's Blades-related' he will plead.

But he conveniently forgets that the Rumour Mill section is full of threads about players we ve been interested in, including Maupay.

Sorry sunshine you're nicked.

The Brentford player we should’ve signed was Romaine Sawyers. Just what we need and think West Brom got him for around £3m

Are goals the measure or value at the end of the season?

I reckon the measure is how the player fits into the system and complements the other players.

The o..p. compares the two on an either/or basis because they were both linked and similar transfer fees.

I think Robinson is our Maupay.

Somebody mentions Sawyers above, and I think Fleck and Norwood are our Sawyers and critically L.Freeman is our Duffy, where the key need was, at least in the near and medium term.

As for McBurnie I have been surprised to read he is not a conventional target man who leads the front line, and seems to like to drop deep a lot. That's absolutely fine though as Robinson can play the partner to that very well and Mousset is the other conventional centre forward option. The Mousset/ McBurnie front two option with Robinson or Freeman tucked just behind could well be exhilarating.

I think Wilder has assembled a group of players who absolutely complement each other and the existing players. I reckon he will sign one more defender and he needs to. I can only think Cranie wanted regular football because he would have been just fine. Just maybe Wilder is very happy for Stevens to drop back when needed and could expect Osborn to become left wing back before long.

Just saw this pop up when I was typing my message - thanks you saved me a job. The key is how well the player does in that teams system. Just 'cos Maupay may have a great season at Brighton, doesn't mean he would have been as great for us.

Type it anyway. :)

Treading water... we're the only football league club who's finished in the top half of their respective division every year for the last decade. Includes two promotions and several additional playoffs.

It gets more and more expensive to compete in the Championship, particularly when you've got to lowest commercial revenue and over of the smallest stadiums in the division. Treading water is just about surviving each year and fearing the next.

We didn't want to sell Maupay, but he wanted to move on and we had a price that we'd sell him for. We sign these shit hot youngsters because we tell them we'll put you in the shop window and will sell you to a larger club if the bid is right, but in return we can only pay you 60% of what you'd earn elsewhere.

If we then refuse to sell them then they'll stop joining in the first place. We've spent something like 65% of our total transfer fees going back 130 years in the last 6 weeks. Yet we've also secured our financial security for the next couple of seasons.

We look to compete within our means whilst building a financially viable club. We've been on the brink before whilst "going for it" and no fan wants to go back go those days.

Good luck for the season - Wilder turned a League One squad into Championship contenders, and there's every chance you'll make the step up again.
Just out of interest, how much for a Canos ??

UTB

We got the best player of the two McBurnie wanted to come and play for us, Maupay wanted to play for whoever paid the most. Like CW says they have to have that desire if not it is see you lad good luck and all the best, watch the door don't bang your arse on the way out.

If that's the case then why didn't CW/the club say we're no longer interested in signing him as soon as Maupay made it clear he wanted to see what other offers came in?
