Neal Maupay

20 million for Maupay or Mcburnie? I feel Brighton have got the better deal. Obviously if he didn't want to come its a mute point but I'm not convinced in McBurnie we've got what we needed.

I see your negativity and raise a McBurnie will score more than Maupay this season and we’ll finish above Brighton.

Must be great supporting Brentford right now.

Transfer saga drags on all summer, lose first game to Brum, finally lose your best player and have 3 days to get a replacement in.
They've already got their replacement in: Bryan Mbeumo for €6m or so. He came from Troyes AC...same club we signed Nade from.

They've also signed Dru Yearwood who we should have bought instead of Ryan Leonard. The only question is how long it will take them to gel as they have, on the face of it, improved despite losing Sawyers and Maupay.

That makes Brighton a stronger proposition now. Because before, they were looking dry for goals.

Palace, Newcastle still weak.

Benrahma also hoping by the looks.

Why do these lot seem happy they’ve sold their best player just because he’s not signed for us?

Ok you’ve made a packet but is that really what you want? To be a selling club who never builds a promotion winning side, just sells their best players for a profit? Bit sad. Sawyers, Konsa, Maupay gone. Benhrama and Canos possibly off, Watkins too? That model might keep you rich but it’ll never get you promoted.

But on the other side of the scales - Enjoy the championship lads - best of luck. You really are a joy to watch in fairness and thanks for giving us the push we needed last season Banana LongLostBee Beeeater1
I personally want to thank Brentford for the win against Leeds :)

No, see, Brighton actually bid. His agent didn't want him to come to you for one reason of another (guess why: 💰💰💰💵💵💵) when it probably would have been better for us. So blame his agent. It's not you that calls us, it's the players agent who can represent your side how he wishes. Such is the murky, murky world of football.
Not from your team 😂😂😂 also fee at £20 million as we said not the £12 some on your board said. In addition there will be a very healthy 20% sell on clause as well. Cheers guys, been fun.
Hilarious how fucked you are for the new season. When Benhrama goes it will top it all off. Losing to an incredibly average Birmingham at home as well? You’ve been treading water for a few years now. Well done you for putting on a brave face. 😂

Fuck knows what’s gone off there tom, he was their best player every time I watched them.

Definitely, he was the only "next level" (unless I'm forgetting someone) player they had. Magic feet, could make something out of nothing.

I remember them playing Arsenal at the end of last season, he was toying with them at times.

Treading water... we're the only football league club who's finished in the top half of their respective division every year for the last decade. Includes two promotions and several additional playoffs.

It gets more and more expensive to compete in the Championship, particularly when you've got to lowest commercial revenue and over of the smallest stadiums in the division. Treading water is just about surviving each year and fearing the next.

We didn't want to sell Maupay, but he wanted to move on and we had a price that we'd sell him for. We sign these shit hot youngsters because we tell them we'll put you in the shop window and will sell you to a larger club if the bid is right, but in return we can only pay you 60% of what you'd earn elsewhere.

If we then refuse to sell them then they'll stop joining in the first place. We've spent something like 65% of our total transfer fees going back 130 years in the last 6 weeks. Yet we've also secured our financial security for the next couple of seasons.

We look to compete within our means whilst building a financially viable club. We've been on the brink before whilst "going for it" and no fan wants to go back go those days.

Good luck for the season - Wilder turned a League One squad into Championship contenders, and there's every chance you'll make the step up again.

We have. We got promoted to the Premier League.

You mean an automatically promoted championship side.

As for the Bees I think you'll do OK, looks like you are at it again signing a few young lads from abroad that nobody has heard of, and spending a few million on them too. I have you down for finishing 5th this season.

For those still remotely interested, @bfcgpg has summarised the Maupay summer saga on Twitter. Written by a member here. :) It's been a blast and for those worried for our future, thanks for your concern but breaking our transfer record for a seriously highly rated French forward today tells me we're in good shape.

Wow, that's optimistic Bruce! They've lost the core of their team this season and have replaced them with players from abroad that will take time to settle. Losing Maupay and Sawyers and probably Benrahma is a huge blow and they lost Konsa too. I also think Thomas Frank is totally unproven. I'm going for 15th or thereabouts. All about opinions!

They have spent £25m this summer, they will be up there.

”Just about surviving” is a lot more severe than treading water. You have finished mid table without challenging for the playoffs for the last few seasons whilst selling all of your decent players. Finishing 9th/10th/11th every season without challenging at all is definitely treading water.

True but they will be adding again before Thursday now Maupay has gone. I certainly would rank them above most of the Champ sides.
Who knows? The last couple of seasons I thought they’d have a squad of players capable of getting them into the playoffs at least but have flattered to deceive. I see this season being no different for them.

I suppose it is treading water... but if you only look at one criteria. There are loads of criteria to take into consideration. After two decades of waiting we've been building our new stadium to move into next summer. We've scrapped our academy in favour of a B Team... and sold a product of that new system for £15m. Our average fee spent has gone from £1m to £3.5m, whilst transfer fees received have gone from £5m to £12m. Our squad is now littered with internationals - we had the only non-Premier League player in the entire England u21 squad this summer.

I'd regard all of the above as ongoing improvement, not treading water. We're building something for the future... not having to flog our stadium to a holding company just to avoid failing FFP.

For some clubs it clicks all of a sudden. You had that last season. We've not had that happen for us yet but each year we put ourselves in a great position again.

One criterion, you illiterate oaf.
