Neal Maupay

We bought Konsa for £3m and sold him a season later for £12m (plus a sell-on?).

With the £9m profit, we've already bought 2 x CB's for £7m (Janssen and Pinnock), with £2m left over to put towards the next Konsa.

One step backwards, two steps forward - we're getting there!
And no continuity from one season to the next. When are you going to stop? When you're buying Neymar for £200m and selling him for £300m?

Self-sufficiency is a laudable aim and one that things like FFP should encourage (I say should, I'm not sure that the rules, or how they're applied, are sufficient). However, you can't just sell, sell, sell and expect to keep improving. At some point you've got to build a team from a solid base so that you can push on to the next level.

They should get Hughton as a replacement and he is a good manager.
Or Hughton could wait until the inevitable sackings in November and go to a better club. If the rumours of Chancer interfering are correct, why would an out of work manager risk his reputation by going to a ‘broken’ club?

Bert is off to check out Lincoln City's training ground to see if Mr Chansiri is there begging the Cowley brothers to sign up.
Can’t see that for one minute.

It looks as if you are. Stop conceding goals next season and you never know. The `like` I gave you is conditional on you getting 6 points off the Pigs.

Must have a doppelganger because theirs a guy sporting his new hairstyle training on Brentford twitter photos 10 minutes ago,

If we manage to keep Maupay and Benrahma (an even better player, imo) til after this window shuts, then I have a sneaky feeling Benham is going for it this season.

He's incredibly analytical, constantly assessing and revising the odds to inform his strategies etc, but he's also prepared to have a punt if the figures stack up.

In our first season in the Championship after promotion, he went to Warburton in January and offered to extend his player budget for a promotion push in the second half of the season.

Warburton actually declined, as he was entitled to do under his contract, on the basis that new players would disrupt the (excellent) harmony and morale in the squad. You can see his thinking, except that the team 'ran out of legs' in the run-in, staggered into the Play Offs and collapsed ahead of the line.

At the end of the season, Benham said he needed to alter the recruitment process (to make it more collegiate), Warburton wouldn't accept this diminution in his authority, and so resigned.

Of course, in succeeding seasons, various factors contrived to prevent such an opportunity arising again (managerial departures, key injuries etc), but the stars seem to be aligning very nicely just now.

In fact, if we get through the window without further departures, it might just be worth a visit to Paddy Power - you heard it here first!
