Neal Maupay

As I mentioned before the really amusing thing for this thread is that if we do sign him it will be “undisclosed “ anyway so none of us are likely to know for sure
We can however, be happy that it definitely wont be £20m.

It's all very intriguing following from afar.

My take is we were linked by his agent so the media would spark interest from other clubs. There's been interest since but the price too high. It's obvious he wants to leave (or at least play in the prem) so there's a nice convenient "we've dropped the asking price honest gov" story hitting the news today.

He'd be silly to stay another year in the championship, the lad obviously has talent. He's not worth 20m though.

I still have no idea if we'll buy him today. Frank's interview was insincere but unless us, villa or Norwich come in for him nobody will take a chance.

Exhibit A , stone cold , the veracity of the ' Beattie flu ' comment right there. Stick a blue plaque on it !

Next challenge - written confirmation of fax machine malfunctions.

For example, in 2011 Sheffield United lost out on signing Kyle Hutton and John Fleck from Rangers due to a broken fax machine.

You’re welcome.

Edit: damn you and your quicker google skills Jim Chimmerney

Any news on whether that Sun article is true and that Brentford have reduced their asking price? We could do with saving a few bob since it looks like Swansea want to play hardball now over Mcburnie.

Well this was the Sun's take on it as late as last night;

Brentford forward Neal Maupay, 22, could become Sheffield United's record signing, with the Premier League newcomers willing to pay £22m for the Frenchman. (Sun)

and if you click on the link it says they've slashed the price :)

The Express is running a story about us on the verge of signing Maupay too. Looks like it's been nicked from The Sun, but still.

Key word being could . We live in hope but certainly not at 22 mil

at the end of the day it could just be another agent/club tactic, if you believe that other clubs have pulled out @20-22 then 'news' breaks that they are prepared to accept 15, it could re-open the auction

All this rufty tufty stuff about price tags, calm your skins.

Whoever ends up signing him will say they paid the basic figure (13 or so) an undisclosed fee whilst Brentford will roll everything up and tell the world they got their 20 an undisclosed fee. Buying clubs fans happy, Bees happy, Maupappy.

"Undisclosed". Works for everyone; it can be whatever you want it to be.

Problem is now if we get Maupay for 15m, that is the minimum figure Swansea will accept for McBurnie

Sky now reporting strong interest from Sheffield United and they are now monitoring the progress.

Blackwell added: ‘After training yesterday James was clearly suffering from a touch of flu. If he's fit then he'll play.

‘If he's not then he won't.’

So it was Blackwell who said Beattie has flu , not McCabe, I rest my case.

You're probably right but why should it be? Mcburnie wasn't the top goal scorer in the league and isn't wanted by 2 or 3 premiership clubs.

Was thinking similar. Handy story to leak to the press to trigger more interest.

McCabe said it on live radio.

Hendo played the Norwich game. Beattie missed out, whoever was doing P&G questioned McCabe about Beattie's absence. Apparently we're not a selling club & he had the flu etc. etc.

Money - it’s off

You little tinker.
We tell Brentford it’s off and we’re now looking elsewhere.
In the meantime they panic because they’ve got transfers lined up and are relying on the Maupay money to finance a squad strengthening.
So they come back to us with their tail between their legs, agreeing the 15 million with no add-ons. Genius!

I only recall Blackwell actually mentioning flu , McCabe said we’re not a selling club, yes I know he’s a liar but I’m think I factually correct to say that he didn’t say Beattie had flu.
Anyone get evidence I’m incorrect?
