I can't be 100% sure, but I don't think Danny is trying to take Wilder's job or even Knill's job to be fair. He's just giving an opinion!

Thing is Wilder has made posting on here light hearted, for that a big thanks Chris.

I might of liked a player proven at a higher level but the lad gets a chance like anyone. Seemed a genuine bloke, it shouldn't be rare but it seems rare for a player to genuinely support a team and be a true football fan and he seems to be one.

As much as I loved our style last year i do miss wingers. They really float my boat and I'm excited to have one back in the squad.

Looks like he has some good potential - and it's great we are looking to sign some of these up and coming talents in the lower leagues. I agree with the posters who have said in this and the other threat that we need to suppliment signings like this with some proven Championship quality.
Why?

We could improve on Hanson. There's not even an argument.
Hanson has a role to play.

Some may see him as one dimensional which may be unfair, but it's a very important dimension he brings.

He is imperious in the air and he's a very big lad. If we need a late goal or see a team who are struggling in the height department, then having a bloke 6'4" who is aggressive and strong is a very sensible bit of kit to have in your arsenal.

He might not be plan A, but he's a key component of the overall plan. We might not be able to pick locks all season, some games we may need to knock the door down. And that's what he brings. No matter how expensive, experienced or skillful a centre half, a 6'4" brute is a difficult opponent most centre halves won't relish that much.

Can't understand this problem with players calling us just 'Sheffield '..to me,there's only ONE team in our city surely !!!:D

I agree, but there are 2 teams; Sheffield United and Sheffield FC. So, just 'Sheffield' is fine by me.

Lot being said about him making a jump up the leagues. All I can say to managers int Championship is underestimate Wilders team at your cost!

Welcome young man, knuckle down and makes us proud.

The lad genuinely wants to be here, moving to Sheffield shows he's committed. Seems very ambitious he will fit right in at this football club.

As Blades we just want players 100% committed. People like Monty summed it up average player 100% commitment and we love him for it.

We have to be careful with wingers. Not everything they try comes off. He's a young lad and we don't want another Ifill situation where the crowd gets on his back because he didn't get past his man.

I would imagine at he start of his Blades career he will be used as a sub. To give some direct running at defenders.

We're going to need more goals, we really haven't got enough upfront apart from Billy. I'm astonished some people think otherwise. Look at our goals record of any attacker apart from Sharp and bare in mind we're moving up a division.
As a team we were the highest scorers in the country weren't we ? Look at that goals record instead of individuals , Jermain Defoe is a great goalscorer ,didn't do Sunderland any good did it ? We have 5 quality strikers all very different in style to cover different kinds of situations and opposition. It doesn't matter who scores as long as the team does. Over in Lower Barnsley they have 6 strikers worth 10 times our squad earning a million a month between them and they cant score for toffee.

Loved his interview

When someone wants to play for your club, regardless of money talk and at the same time turning down his hometown club, says something to me

I hope he has a great season

Says we offered a longer deal and more money to me....plus he may feel he can get more game time at BDTBL...you have to think at Boro he would be struggling to make the bench and maybe would end up out on loan.

Exactly Champers. There will be times when plan A isn't working and we have to have a plan b, plan c or even a plan d to win the game. For me, out usual tactics are plan a, more width and use of wingers is plan b, plan c is sticking a few big uns in the box and chucking the ball in there with 15 to go, and plan d is we just shoot the opposition bstards if we need to. CW will have it all sorted.

But I digress. Hanson is a very arkward player to play against and is physically imtimidating to opposition centre halves. Why wouldn't you want a relatively cheap option like him to come off the bench and 'cause some bollox' if that is what the occasion merits at that time? It's been done for many a year, Bassett had Whitehurst for this job, Warnock had the Chief. The other mediocre managers we have had recently probably didn't have a dedicated big lad to come off the bench or a plan b, but then they didn't have a plan full stop either. Hanson can be our Chief this season and he was worth his weight in gold that lad.

Just listened to his interview, he sounds bright, determined and a genuine football fan. Based on that and the fact Wilder's signed him, I'd dismiss any suggestions from Hartlepool of a bad attitude.

Wash your mouth out you deluded fool. I have had quite a few of the pork brigade tell me that 'they delivered a European night like masterclass' away at Huddersfield on Sunday afternoon by defending like Trojans.

I just took it that they meant that they were shit going forward, had spent a fortune on mostly shite, and that their 'European night masterclass' was the equivalent of me going to Magaluf, getting hammered out of my head, spending a fortune on cheap tacky non value drinks, getting piss all over my jeans, spewing over a bird and the failing to get a hard on after ive somehow still be lucky enough to pull a fatty. In short, I thought the Pigs looked w@nk.

I'm all for signing young players with potential, hopefully he turns out to be a quality player.

But at this stage he's nothing to get excited about, end of the day we've signed a player who has just been relegated from League Two.

What a stupid comment. Sorry...but the player has not been relegated from League 2. The club he plays for has been relegated from League 2. One man cannot carry a whole team. You could have had Lionel Messi in that Hartlepool team this season and they would still have got relegated.

Think of all the relegations we've had (if you can bear the thought of it). Does that mean that none of the players were any good because the team got relegated?

I think you and a few others, need to come to terms with who we are and where we are. We are a club that is definitely on an upward trajectory now, for the first time in the last 10 years actually. However, we are not going to go out and buy a "proven Championship striker" - we just aren't! It's as simple as that. And thank God we're not! Have you've seen the prices that players like Rhodes, Hooper, Fletcher, Ross McCormack, Darren Bent, etc are fetching at this level? Eh? Absolutely ridiculous money to burn imo. That's not our style. We will do as we've done before and pick up good up and coming young players who really want to bust a gut for the club - and I think this young lad will be one of them.

We are moving up a division, we aren't going to score the same volume of goals we have this year with the same players...

Did any of you notice that RS Jonny Leeds referred to us being in a relegation battle again during this interview? He's really getting on my nips with this line.

I also tuned in for change to listen to the new signing and also picked up on this comment from Rubber Jonny. Here he is interviewing a young lad who is enthused about signing for the red and white wizards and you have this dipshit talking the club down and basically telling the lad that it is going to be a struggle for both him and the club next season. I would have told him to fuk off the clown.

Along with a few other 'think they know it all' tits on RS, I think there are going to be a few who have underestimated Utd and Wilder and will look the daft chumps that they are next season. Personally I think there is every reason to be really positive about next season and I think we will do well. Top 10 finish for us I think, but then what do I know compared to Rubber Jonny and his all knowing pals....

He's also bloody good in our box defending set pieces!

Hanson did a great job ,exactly what we required last season ,he still hasn't tasted defeat as a Blade ,he was signed on a 3 year contract in almost certain knowledge that we would be in the Championship ,we wont get a better option and he will prove invaluable next season. We have other positions far more pressing.

I don’t think he’ll go anywhere before January at the earliest and think he might play a part from the bench. I’ll be disappointed if he becomes a regular starter alongside Sharp though. I think we need better mobility up front than what those 2 offer. He could possibly work alongside a Steve Kabba type of forward.

Are you assuming Billy will be a shoe in for one of the starting striker roles next season? If so I think you will be mistaken.

I noticed it, but I also noticed young Nathan get one back, when asked which matches he was looking forward to (Interviewer was expecting Boro) and he was straight in with 'The Sheffield Derby'. Good lad!
