Gone Elsewhere Nathan Byrne

Cheers 58, as you say, a crazy percentage and one that Swindon will regret with immediate effect. I can only assume that once an offer had been lodged, their bank manager will have been informed and nodded his head in approval. Good news for us and a few other clubs though, as it diminishes their threat. Interested to know what they might have in store to replace Byrne?

A bit late in the window for them to get anyone permanent.

Not nearly as much as 2009 has cost us over the last 6 years...

It wasn't just the playoff final defeat that cost us that year, it was also our transfer activity in that calendar year

IN- Kyel Reid, Leigh Bromby, James Harper, Jordan Stewart, Ryan France, Ched Evans, Glenn Little, Jonathan Fortune, Andy Taylor, Lee Williamson etc.

OUT: James Beattie, Kyle Naughton, Kyle Walker, Ugo Ehiogu, Danny Webber, Brian Howard etc. Plus the retirement of Gary Speed.

I know theres been mention of this already but if we had the chance would people want him or stock with Basham/Brayford at rwb

I'd sell Brayford and bring him in, I never thought I'd say that but it's not worked out.
I'd still prefer Macca from Wolves though.

Don't think we'd be able to afford him, but even if we were stupid enough to pay a Brayford kind of fee I'd much rather we spread that money out on lesser known players on smaller fees and lower wages. It's about time we earn our silver and buy in little known players that are good enough for a league one promotion winning team. That's what the majority of sides promoted from this division do. Difference with us is that we should have the budget advantage and therefore the edge over other clubs trying to do the same. Trouble is though you need to have excellent scouting and a good structure in place for it to work, and the vast majority of the evidence suggests we definitely don't.

I highly doubt there'll be any high six figure and certainly no seven figure transfers in over the summer. Byrne will certainly fall into one of those categories and will be on Champ wages to match. Sad but true that we're unfortunately fishing in a different pond.

I wouldn't sell brayford. He's a quality player

Agree Swiss . I think with being let down so many times and frustrated we have a tendancy to knock our own players ( some of it justified ) . Brayford is a class act . We have to stop having a go and crucifying our better players . At least with Adkins positive vibes , we are not post on the forum from the Priory , although some Adkins interviews make me think of a asylum .

We have known for a while we need quality over quantity , with new blood , not previous players who have been at the club , never mind how much we rated them at the time. Comfort zone we will not be next season.

Exactly. Brayford has understandably not been on top form this year, with that form being sandwiched between two shitty injuries. He came back at a time when the side was shite and just did ok.

Brayford is a quality player and we paid a lot for him because of his quality. Hopefully with a full preseason we'll again see his quality next season.

A versatile player like Brayford is hard to come by, we shouldnt underestimate his ability, not to mention his influence and his desire to be at the club

Brayford certainly hasn't been a quality player for the last 18 months. I don't know what happened to him before but the injuries have probably finished him off. We're not going to see the player we had on loan.

If there's a chance we can get Byrne without spending all our budget on him, then we should commit to signing him. Perfect for 3-5-2, and you won't find a better outlet. Using Brayford as in an exchange deal could work, as long as he still has a good reputation at Championship level.

As I said on another thread, if we could sign Byrne and two quality centre halves like Baptiste and Pierre I'd be happy to allow the rest to steadily fall into place over time. That would give us a good defence, a wide threat, an average midfield and a good attack. We'd be up there in January.

You said he's finished. If he's finished how can we sell him to the championship?? Unless of course, he's not finished o_O

As I said, reputation. There'll be some managers who've rated him in the past.

Even if we had to pay cash (within reason) plus Brayford to get Byrne it'd be worthwhile. We'd probably be saving in wages too.

Not sure why the hatred towards Brayford at the minute. Players go through highs and lows form wise. Add to that a really bad injury then another to want him sold is quite harsh. He'll get a full preseason this year and will come back stronger for it.
There's another position behind hatred. One that thinks he's not nearly worth what we're paying him, but accepts that he's a decent player when on form.

So wait, now that you realise that we need excellent scouting and good structure in place for it to work. Would you now accept that the summer recruitment was not Adkins' fault?
He's now redeveloping the scouting network. Do you think he can turn it around in the summer because of those improvements or are you going to continue being dogmatic?

Indeed ....... there are a long list of senior squad players we need to cull before you get down to Brayford ....... and not many on the list after him.

I would suggest that it would be Byrne plus cash to get Brayford tbh.

What is this concept "scouting" of which you speak .......

SUFC think scouting is a bunch of teenagers with woggles, camping in a field ....

After the form Brayford's shown in the last couple of years plus his injuries, I disagree.

Byrne's younger and much better going forward. Brayford hardly makes up for it with defensive ability. I know who I'd rather have.

I suspect Byrne fits a 3-5-2 very well, as at Swindon. Not sure what formation Jackett has preferred at Wolves but I suspect it isn't a 3-5-2.

If that's the case then it's no wonder Byrne has failed to make an impact in the Wolves side. I'd be very pissed off if we spunked the budget on another RB as opposed to a proper winger / attacking midfielder.

Id go for Kemar Roofe, not least because of the fun we could have with puns :)

Sad to say I don't think the ambition is there at board level for next season. Adkins is already warming the fans up with all this austerity rhetoric and we're hearing all sorts about "board movement." I don't think the future looks good and I wouldn't be surprised if NA is leaving because the board aren't willing to put any money in this summer- to a large extent he's paying the price for Clough's failings.

But Brayford is proven at championship level (so much so a Prem club took a punt on him). Byrne has done well for a year or so in League 1 but struggled since stepping up.
