Gone Elsewhere Nathan Byrne

Byrne's a class player. I'd have him here in a heartbeat.

So it's not really worked out for him at Wolves? (So far at least - it took months for Conor Coady to establish himself at the same club this season.)
These things happen. Will Grigg at Brentford?

Get Byrne in, Scruffy, Maguire and ( gulp) Ched back and we'd be half-way to storming L1, whoever comes down...

Not going to happen though is it!

If Byrne and McDonald are difficult to manage it's probably not a good idea to buy them. I don't think our +Nige is the man for commanding respect from difficult personalities. That's why he likes to have people he knows and trusts around him, even if two of them do happen to be Woolford and Hammond.

Wasn't in the Wolves squad at the weekend. With Adams gone and us in desperate need of some width, I'd love to see us make an effort to get this lad. Wages might be an issue but maybe a loan move?

Byrne is blatantly available for transfer. A lot of Wolves players will be soon. He's got at least two years left on his contract though so I'm pretty sure a loan would be possible, and probably more likely for us.

I'd be happy either with him on the right wing and Duffy on the left, or him at right back with Duffy in front of him. Although I think wing back's his best position, as I think he's better with the freedom of the flank. He could work at right back though because Duffy tends to drift a fair bit, which would give him space. As for his defensive ability, it can't be any worse than Brayford's, and he has that pace to bail him out. Would also be less important if we got a good keeper and CB.

I do think we should take the chance to sign him if we can. You won't get a better outlet than him in this league.

He can play almost anywhere on the pitch, im sure hes played upfront before aswell, he seems to be an all round good player but would prefer him on the wing because he is capable of scoring goals and decent at crossing aswell.

We didn't need to sell Adams apparently, so we could use all the money on a £2m bid for Byrne and Coady (who was an unused sub on sat). Probably get laughed at tho with the prices being thrown around in the Championship.

I think Brayford's defensive shortcomings are overplayed. Did you see his fantastic last ditch aerial challenge in our 6 yard box that led to his injury?

he made a few mistakes last season but is better balanced (offering something offensively and defensively) than pretty much any full back at this level.

Swindon stuck him up front not long before selling him and he scored a hat-trick in one of his first games there.,

As I said on another thread, how much do you really see of other full backs in this division, how much attention do you typically pay to them? It takes longer to judge them than attacking players, especially the defensive side of their game. It's difficult to confidently make comments about who's the best etc, certainly if you don't just go on the hype (as many have with Adams for example). Brayford's not a good defender, but I think he's still better than he showed last season. Going forward he's quite average now, his crossing in particular is poor.

As for Byrne, I'd be happy with him replacing Brayford. He could change the dynamic of the team from right back. You could afford to have three central midfielders, two strikers and a left winger, allowing him the freedom of the right hand side with the right sided CM covering for him. I like the idea of that. Asymmetrical!

I agree to an extent that it takes longer to cast judgement on a full back. That said, I was impressed with Moxey for Bolton on Saturday. I think Brayford had a particularly poor spell last season (after a few good games on his return from injury). Yes his crossing is ordinary but he's a good athlete who gets up and down the line and he's a brave player always willing to put his body on the line and is very good in the air for his height. He's also technically quite reliable if not spectacular (decent touch, can play decent short passes, give and go etc.)

I feel confident in saying that bar Lowton, he's better than anything we've had in either full back position since Kyle Walker left. The likes of McMahon, Williams etc. have held down regular positions at top half teams in this league so I'm inclined to believe there are very few at this level better than Brayford.

So how much have you seen of Byrne considering he was in our division then hardly played for Wolves. Are we going for 2 good games against Harris in the play offs?

Isn't he the lead singer of Talking Heads (no puns about Road To Nowhere please!)

He's played against us on numerous occasions. Seen him on TV a few times. It's the attacking side of his game I'm interested in and it's easier to judge that than defensive ability in any case.

The lad has pace and the ability to beat a man, attributes we are desperately lacking.

Wasn't even in Wolves' squad for the cup game last night.

I'd like him here in the sort of setup I talked about previously, something like this:

Byrne Wilson O'Connell Hussey

.....................Morsy....................
..........Basham.......Fleck..........

.............Sharp...Clarke.....Duffy

Hope we lose Brayford and try and get him on loan for the season. Wouldn't want it to stop us signing a left winger though.

How did feckin Morsy get in your team? This is a Byrne thread and your wasting posts. We've only got 2 days to get this upto a 50 thread on Byrné, it's the BladeyBladeness way ;)

I would love us to sign this guy. I would play him on the wing rather than wing back. He played his later football at Swindon further forward.

If he was putting in performances like when he tore Bob Harris a new one I think my cock would look like a chewed carrot before long

I would say Byrne is more of a winger these days and would probably compliment Brayford down the right hand side.

Now Wolves have money they probably don't him.

Thing is Duffy's more of a right winger though isn't he, or am I wrong?

Given we've already got a RB in Brayford (even if he's possibly about to leave), have signed a right winger in Duffy over the summer and CW's preference to play 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1, why would he be tempted to break the bank to sign a right wing-back, particularly as he's also stated he's after a CB, LM and CM?

Been relegated to the bench for Wigan's last couple of games. With the possibility of us swapping places with Wigan and the fact we now play a wing back system, could this be a goer?

Utd wouldn't be able to afford him at present, even on the off-chance that CW wanted him.

He'll be on Champ wages and is currently on loan at another Champ club - why would he or Wolves want him to come to Utd?

Wouldn't happen at this minute. But we could do with another RWB so it could come in handy.

I noticed Ariyibi was playing wing back for Chesterfield on Sunday...

And I'll also throw in another one with Chesterfield links, Tendayi Darikwa. Now at Burnley, nowhere near their team, could be a possible loan.
