Any particular reason?

Sending a message to the board?

Not something to be overtly critical about but surprised that a couple of youngsters like Ayari, Brunt, Hackford etc. weren't placed on there to get some experience/integration, or was he trying to protect them?

Might have been nice for the youth team to see a pathway towards the first team set up by being rewarded with something like that.

(No sign of Rodwell, perhaps COVID related so unfair to speculate)

Is Sharp one of those with Covid, or has he been bombed out after his missus twitter shenanigans?

If you had kept an eye on things you would have seen we have been hit with multiple positive Covid tests

I would like to have seen a couple of younger lads introduced to the squad, and Ayari / Brunt both sprung to mind. But as soon as i'd said this in shoutbox, someone with infinitely greater wisdom than I jumped down my throat claiming that introducing kids into this environment wouldn't do them any good. Personally, i think give them a chance to shine training with the big boys, and the experience of a match day would be better than leaving them wondering wtf they have to do to get a call up, afterall that is what they are striving for.

Message to the board - Maybe, and actually a very tactical move if so (if the board even see it that is), he certainly displays a lack of depth in the senior squad.

Given the players missing, Sharp, McB, Rodwell etc i only assume they are affected by the announced positive tests.

I thought you could only use players in the 25 named.

This popped in my mind too but at a guess I think he might think dropping young lads who aren't ready into this environment could do more damage than good.

You might be right 🤷‍♂️ Im sure he will change the 25 in January no matter f anyone comes in or not.

Added a little more. You don't have to name players under 21 into your 25 man squad, so they don't count towards that number.

I’ve always been a big advocate of if theres a spare slot on the bench that we cant fill, give it to a yoof. Even if theres no intention of them going on, it at least gives them the full first team match day experience- the routine, warming up in front of the crowd, etc. In fact, why cant they just have one or two do that anyway without being named as subs? Surely its beneficial and part of development? So when they hopefully do get a proper call up, they are at least familiar with what to expect.

That being said, maybe with the current Covid stuff its not the best idea for the time being? Unnecessary contact and all that.

If we’ve been hit with covid I’ve said on another thread I’d expect the first thing we’ve done is separate the first team and the academy to stop any potential cross over. Those academy lads won’t be receiving the two tests a week the first team boys are.

Yes we dont know when the covid results came in ,if a squad has to named by then etc etc ,Im sure there are all sorts of bollocks you have to adhere to ,we dont even know for definite who or how many the players infected or isolating are.

That's a very good point, hadn't considered that.

I think that’s why if I’m honest some senior pros missing might’ve been a message but no academy lads will have been for safety reasons.

The pathway to the first team is not from the youth ranks straight to the bench and it’s unrealistic for people to think it can be the case apart from very exceptional youngsters (like Wayne Rooney). Players go out on loan at various levels before they get near our first team squad. To put them on the bench from the development squads will not benefit them in the long run.

The only messages Wilder should be sending to the board is thank you notes with a muffin basket.

He's been backed financially to the best of the owners abilities without putting us in the shit, and he's been backed personally by the owner in the press despite us having the worst start since Brontosaurus FC in the Jurassic League Northern Division in 146,000,000 BC.

And had an unbelievably easy ride in the press, media and with fans. Managers with 3x as many points over half the amount of games have been sacked too.

If fans were in the ground he wouldn't be getting an easy ride with the team playing as they are.

Rodwell on the bench on Saturday not today when we don't name a full complement? I appreciate he's probably not good enough but he's an ex English international midfield player. What a waste of a wage and i don't blame Rodwell
