Pretty much bob on Pomp’s. But Norwood although by his standards not the best of day's, but he was by far our best midfielder the other 2 both invisible. I have defended Berge to the hilt, hoping against hope, he can show more than the glimmers of brilliance, but today he deserves all the pelters. The sheer lack of intent was depressing what the hell was he playing at. If you want away lad this is simply not the way you go about it. The fans and the management team deserve a lot more desire than that. Buck up you sulky arse.

My God I hope Ndiaye is OK....

Robinson my MOM loads of headers won and a good block just before they scored. Real mixed bag of performances really. Love Billy to bits but this was not his game at all, in fact I’d have hooked him for Jebbison at half time. Berge, who I’ve always defended, is just leaving even me without a defensive word to find for him.

Berge’s dereliction of duty for the first will rightly form the basis of most people’s disappointment.

But Wes doesn’t come off scot-free either.

He follows the flight of the ball and their goal is absolute meat and drink.

A top keeper doesn’t let that in.

If it gets a deflection off the forward then nobody is going to blame him. But letting a softly flighted cross nestle in the corner was pretty embarrassing for him to be honest.

He’s got plenty of credit in the bank, don’t get me wrong. Game changing penalty saves certainly add to that. But there has certainly been a drop off on his performance levels and his assuredness. If you were judging him purely post World Cup, looking how he didn’t command his box vs Blackpool, did nothing of note to stop the Wigan goal, spilled most crosses in the Coventry game and let todays soft effort in, then you’d be tapping Davies on the shoulder and saying “you’re up soon, mate”. Wes has been the number one rightly so, but his spot shouldn’t be undisputed.

He’s certainly made me think these past few months that he’s one that’s ‘alright for the Championship but not for the Premiership’.

Dept analyses on how we outplay them for 25 min. and then loose the grip of the game, this is not down to individuals but the team as a whole. How did that happen. Hard my take on that. Football is a funny game[Harris,John],but difficult to explaine

Early shout tonight as I'm off out with the bale of rags and a gang to watch an 80s tribute band. Makes a change to be in the audience for a change.

Anyway.

Great three points. Great from a standpoint of it opens up the gap even further and more goal difference and other teams are gonna need snookers soon to catch us. But it wasn't a confident win and certain areas of United's approach to beating poor teams (and Stoke, for long periods, were poor) remain questionable. Once again, we made fucking hard work of what should have been an easy task. It was heartening to see us straight at them for twenty minutes however and playing football which, albeit with Stoke looking ragged, looked Premier League level. At the beating heart of this is Ndaiye though and as everyone's fears are now heightened, without him as a focal point we are effectively fucked. A team is gonna come along soon and do the chasing pack a big fucking favour and go straight through him. It could have happened today and eventually he had to go off. We just haven't got that person for whom its hard work to dispossess and who, when you are keeping your eyes on the ball defending against has the quickness of feet to simply make it disappear and then they are past you, and two of your teammates as well. I've played against people like this in the past and the effect on your willpower and morale is devastating. The only remedy is backing off them ... and continuing to do so just gives them space and yards on goal ... or going through them and picking up a card. Elsewhere we look far more capable down the flanks with Bogle and Lowe, both of them well worthy of their meagre transfer fees. However Sander Berge remains an enigma as to how the fuck some of our fanbase stamp such hope on such a limited, clearly unhappy and frankly out of place footballer which precious little to show of worth. Twenty million is a stupid price to pay to remain patient when he turns in performances like today. 'He's just returning from injury' has now run out as a warranty against his poor performance. We simply can't afford to play with ten men whilst he disconnects himself from play and backs out of this challenge. The fans demand more from him given his assumed worth and supposed capability, otherwise bench the fucker and get him on the transfer list before we end up releasing him for jack shit. Its not good enough.

Foderingham 6/10: Not a massive amount to do as Stoke lacked so much in getting the ball into the area until later and anything they did fire at him didn't actually need too much of a dive to stop it.
Bogle 9/10: A tremendous game for him. Two goals, plenty of cutting edge both as a defender and as a winger and even inside in the middle of the park. A true asset to the club and thank god he at least has come back from a long term injury ready to fight and win
Anel 6.5/10: Started the game ready to advance and finished with the rest of the back three baling out the floodwater somewhat. Some decent key interceptions but sometimes he is a bit wrongfooted
Egan 6/10: Mediocre game for him. He works hard but sometimes the marshalling ends up like herding cats and runners end up with free goes on goal. There needs to be a better, more coherent understanding at the back with him.
Robinson 6.5/10: Fairly solid for him today. Again the cohesion of the back three is a joint venture and today all of them were somewhat flakey at times
Lowe 7.5/10: Lovely game for him. Gets up and down that wing and 'does his job' and is surprisingly agile in tracking back, moreso than the ageing Stevens
Berge 2/10: Dreadful game. Seven minutes in, realised he was playing. First real touch on eleven. Neshed challenges, lost individual battles and created a hole in midfield that everyone else had to cover. Then he missed a fucking sitter in the second half after playing his usual invisible man routine. Proof if anything he is on thin ice at Bramall Lane, despite all the opprobrium I have fielded trying to get some to realise that.
Norwood 6.5/10: Bossed the game for the first twenty with his usual graft and aggression. But because we were effectively playing with ten men, he was dragged out to do two jobs at times. His corners today were disappointing and he started to telegraph passes a bit too much late on
McAtee 7/10: Pleasing performance and some 'happy feet' as Asaba coined it. Works great with NDaiye going forward. Would love to see them both as RAM and LAM behind Jebbo or McB
NDaiye 8.5/10: Usual 'never fucking gives up' showing. Chased everyone and made a complete nuisance of himself and got his deserved goal after a mini-drought. Without him we are fucked so here's hoping the management wake the fuck up and sign a loan player like him or he gets better and stays uninjured
Sharp 4/10: Typical, now-failing-in-effectiveness Sharp hustle and bustle. This must be his last season.

Doyle 5/10: Great ball for Bogle's second but asked to do so much in what was effectively a two man midfield once he'd puzzlingly come on for McAtee
Jebbison 5/10: Plenty of effort but up on his own to cause trouble and hold it up
Osborn 6/10: Got about, typical of him. Why the fuck he wasn't on for Berge earlier is anyone's guess because I'd rather have Tasmanian Osborn than My Little Berge any day

HJ&SMcC: 6/10: A low mark because habitually they put us all through the ringer and fail to hook the ineffective and leave it late with the subs. We are where we are however and I am grateful for that, but were we as effective as we could be, We'd be above Burnley now or at least a game shy of them on points.

Hull on Friday. Please ... drop Berge and please, management ... sign some players.

I thought Macatee was lost in the second half. He was playing on the right, looked all at sea and contributed little. Hence him coming off
I am not in the camp of “Berge is outstanding “, but he did some good work today in between his drifting about, and he won a contested header ! 4 or 5 would have been more accurate.

Then go watch someone else, if you can’t abide watching a player who is an integral part of a team that’s 11 points clear of third place, in the championship.
Problem is, with your high level of football knowledge and appreciation, and low tolerance for off days, that only leaves, City, and even they lost.
The whole world feels sorry for you.
Off day my arse !
Do you see him as putting in enough effort to make the most of his talent ?
What's your assessment of Berge's recent performances ?
And looking at his whole time with us , has he developed his game ?

Agree Berge was poor today, but looked better late on when he was in a more attacking role. I was hoping Jebbo would come on earlier for Billy, as he wasn't really a threat today, and he just hasn't got the pace, so the ball in behind or over the top is not really on,and with a 40 year old Jags I think he'd be more worried about being up against Jebbo from those type of balls, and is more physical.
The two wingbacks gave us more of an attacking threat..Bogle mom, Ndaiye not far behind.

Great opinion as always, agree with all from what I hear from those who were there. Wasn't able to see the game unfortunately. Need to get a VPN and or firestick.

Have great night out, very jealous!

Lowe is an improvement on Edna, but would prefer RND to be back. I love Furious, but an on form Bogle offers more.

Berge, well, watching him at QPR finalised my view. For some reason he seems to have given up. No idea why, unless he thinks if he gets injured his transfer hopes are gone. Shouldn't be in the starting lineup. Hecky WTF??

Anyway, some on the forum feel we shouldn't critise anything, we shouldn't be so "entitled" LOL!
I am amazed, delighted and somewhat bemused by our position at this time.

We have the squad in this squalid league to be 5pts or more ahead of Belgiumloanley. We play some fantastic football at times, but briefly for some reason? We are a joy to watch at times, but then turn into a turgid turd for long periods. Why?

A tough run of games to come, but we tend to pull it out when playing the better teams. Still can't understand why we are unable to put shit down the pan properly?

Anyway, onwards, upwards and I'm quite sure we will get to the promised land, but not without giving the fans serious high blood pressure moments. It's the Blades way.

Goalie nowhere near a problem

If that’s our problem - we don’t have a problem

Focus on the useless waste of space that is Sander - his performance affects the whole team dynamics

He is shameful

Quote of the decade. Ndiaye, “I’ve played against people like him in the past”.

No. No, you haven’t, treacle
Not following.

Ndiaye said that about someone. If so, who?

Or someone said that about Ndiaye. If so, who?

Cheers

Good for 30 mins and shit for the next hour boy did that score line flatter us
It’s bizarre .. I don’t think think in all truthfulness we’ve played well for 90 mins since returning from the WC break but we’re 11 points clear of our nearest rivals ? If we play like that we will come unstuck against teams with more quality ,
Ndiaye best player on the pitch by a country mile & has worryingly gone off with a knee injury ... if we lose Illy were are fucked with a capital F ...Bogle also up there on yesterday’s performance.
I know I keep banging on about it but for fucks sake we definitely need someone up top who can hold the ball up , when McBurnies playing were a different team ...we shouldn’t be relying on a 36 year old if we really want to secure promotion .. but don’t think it’s gonna happen with the takeover

This is the one thing that worries me. Apparently McB is due back imminently but I'd love another option up there to go to a Plan B. We do look one dimensional at times and I think the reason we came under some pressure yesterday was the inability to hold the ball up consistently.

I didn't think we were bad at all yesterday and rarely looked in trouble but still far from our best.

Ellis Simms tad Sunderland had on loan would be a perfect fit but has returned to Everton

We were awful, generally imo especially taking into account the poor opposition. We were 2-0 up without being anywhere near great , their fans were taking the piss out of their own team and booing them.

So - we don’t build confidence energy or momentum in this situation - oh no - we play sloppy passes , give them a goal and spend most of the second half looking like a bunch of strangers who who have just been put together but somewhere in their midst have a couple of worldies like IN and Bogle who try to have a go and inject some style and spunk.

Apart from a couple of the defenders and the above two we look bereft of any purposeful structure or style - as per other recent games .

We are in the top two of a really and utterly rubbish league and thank god for that.

This needs sorting if we are to build or maintain our position if not I genuinely feel that we could be reeled in

Fair summaries by Pompey and DB. It does seem that in every game since the break we get into a strong position and rather than then going for the jugular we take our foot of the gas and let the opposition back into it. Fortunately none of the teams we have played in this run have been that good and able to take advantage and the wins have ended up being comfortable despite not seeming that at the time. I wonder if this in part to try and avoid getting any further injuries and not taking any risks when in a strong position. It is a bit frustrating as we could easily be winning these by a 3 or 4 goal margin but at the end of the day we are getting the job done so no real complaints.

With regards to Sander I get where Pompey is coming from even if the invisible man bit is a bit tongue in cheek knowing it will get a reaction. We know what he can do (and can't) and has the ability to be unplayable at this level and should be dominating games. It is therefore both frustrating and annoying that he rarely bloody does it. He does appear to be just coasting at the moment and you get the feeling he is just making sure he just doesn't get injured again in the transfer window.

I’m focussing on the bigger picture mate, and the only one that counts.
We are 11 points clear of 3rd place. Our present players, and manager got us there.
I’ve a hangover this morning from celebrating, one of our best ever starts to a season, since I’ve been supporting them.
`You carry on whingeing about our latest whipping boy’s below par performance, or this and that,if you wish.
Personlly,I couldn’t be happier.
Sadly there will be days and seasons supporting the Blades, when you have lots to complain about. These are not those days. These are the glory days mate, enjoy them while they last
Up the Blades

In second half Berge and McAtee seemed to swop sides so Sande(right footed) on left and Macca(left footed) on right. Seemed odd change and didnt help us.
With Berge in midfield we just lack energy and someone with a real "engine". Whatever people say about Ozzy (and I am a fan)he gives us that and felt we noticeably improved when he came on. Should have on earlier and sande taken off.

I do take your point , the bigger picture is great.
All I am saying is that we could easily look a whole lot more convincing if Berge wanted to play to his full potential.

Agree about Berge - looked like he was avoiding injury

I think you are spot on. This in every match. Mentally I dont think he is there at all with concentrating on the game and getting stuck in this above is always in his mind. Thats what it appears like from the armchair.
