A further point about the foolishness of football's new rule interpretations, arising from West Ham's disallowed goal at Sheffield United last week.

As you may recall, Declan Rice was judged to have handled the ball, unavoidably and accidentally , in the build-up to Robert Snodgrass scoring. He was five yards outside Sheffield United's penalty area at the time.

Yet suppose the offence had been committed inside West Ham's penalty area? It could happen. Son Heung-min ran the length of the field to score for Tottenham this season. Equally, Rice could have won the ball in a melee and taken it 10 or 20 yards upfield in a counter-attack before striking a long pass for Snodgrass to run on and score.

What would unfold then? VAR replays the move and notes that Rice handled and by the new rules instructs the goal to be disallowed.

Yet where did the offence take place? Inside West Ham's penalty area. So, it's a penalty to Sheffield United? No, because it was an accident and unavoidable. But the goal's been disallowed for handball? Yes. And that took place in the penalty area? Yes. So it must be a penalty? No. Right, so now it's not a goal, but also not a penalty. How do we restart?

There seems to be no provision in the rulebook for this eventuality but, clearly, it is possible. Plenty of counter-attacking goals start from breaks inside the penalty area. This is why it is ridiculous to have one handball rule for attackers, another for defenders.

The game is being made unnecessarily complicated and not even comprehensible.

That's not gonna work. Bladesman needs to assemble 11 trusted forumites. Hack into Copthornes computer and get the building blueprints and alarm system wiring.
Then buy Honest Johns Car yard, and The Real Angus Burger Van to use as a lookout post. Rent an upper room in the hotel and play some of McB's playlist at full volume with a party of 20 Twitter hookers, while a tunnel is being dug from the car lot and up into Copthorne basement. Scale the lift shaft to the roof. A team of six absail down, and cut the sign tiewraps with mini lasers. As the sign falls to the floor another member Base jumps from off the top of the south stand, catching the banner and landing in the car lot. Everybody then legs it up London Road, lobbing the banner over a fence.

Needs some German Blades ( not Blades in Germany) involvement seeing as the dislike for the Mail supporting fascism apparently means we should hate them and everything their country produces, so we require balance.

Personally we should just sub the job to those Croatian Blades from a few years ago who'd probably just burn the hotel, banner and all, down.

I was not saying that you have to hate Germans and everything their country produces if you dislike the the Mail's past, I was pointing out an inconsistency. Holding the Mail to account for ever and a day whilst happily accepting companies that did far worse without a murmur of objection doesn't balance.

As a Brit who's been in Germany a while, I can say this issue is very complex here, not helped by a reluctance to talk about it. It's clear, though, that Germans as a whole have moved on and don't hate or despise companies who had Nazi associations in the past, because they've had to - otherwise they couldn't have carried on. Take the VW Beetle, Hitler's car of the people, if they had disregarded it as a piece of dispicable Nazism they would never have got their motor industry back on track. It would be unreasonable for a German to turn to another German who has just bought a VW and remind him of the company's Nazi past. I've never heard of such a thing happening.

The Mail (Daily or Sunday) is and always has been a rag (possibly an insult to rags) which reflects and influences the most base of human instincts. It promotes difference, division, and ultimately hate for any person, group, organisation or country which doesn't fit it's extremely narrow view of what is "right". It did support Hitler and the Nazis, and some of it's more recent views, e.g that the judiciary are "enemies of the state" shows that it hasn't moved far from that position.
I agree with a free press, it's one of the great things about this country, along with freedom of speech, but the Mail uses this freedom with no sense of responsibility. It saddens me when I see people buying and reading it.
