tbh bendy, arrogant twat that he can sometomes come across as, the fact is he may just have something to offer, especially to young strikers.
a lot might say the game has changed dramatically since edwards played but scoring goals is still more or less the same.
If corky was one of the best striker coaches in the championship, passing on his knowledge, a much more prolific striker than corky, edwards could be invaluble to the likes of slew and any other young strikers if only giving them a little advice if he hasnt got coaching badges, gee them up when they need it and any sheffield lads come thru the ranks im sure would get a kick outta meeting a blades legend and getting his advice, especially dyed in the wool blades.

It makes you wonder why he never has been given a role at the lane. He does speak sense, but I imagine that he wouldn't be that popular and wouldnt get that much respect, pundits never seem to. Look at Andy Townsend, Hoddle, Gullit, Strachen..

but wouldnt some kind of appointment for one of the blades top scorer this century, strengthen the view of ex blades coming back to help out TC etc?

Started watching in the late 70s and Edwards is the best finisher I've ever seen for the Blades. Not the best all-round striker - that would be my namesake! I still like him and he's clearly a passionate fan - but I'm not sure he's cut out for a job at the Lane.

The man's a Blades legend. Like everybody he has an opinion, but, appears to get slated just cause he's in the media spotlight.

That would be a good thing? Do you not think that if TC had any aptitude for coaching at all, he would have been appointed years ago?

Can we get out of this crazy obsession with former Blades? The sort of madness that has failures and novices like Holdsworth, Scott and Wilder seriously suggested as suitable to manage SUFC during the last two or three vacancies.

ok pinchy on a purely footballing level, forget hes an ex blade, i only suggested a role at the club doesnt mean he should be thrown in as assistant manager.
he may as you say not have the aptitude for coaching, but on radio the man has actually said he would like to give his knowledge to the blades youngsters and HE believes he could give them the benifit of a little bit of his experience, and i for one cant see that as being a bad thing.

Munxy,

If you're talking about Edwards I would not necessarily disagree, provided he fitted in with the existing staff. Keith can be a difficult personality as his former managers would confirm, though many are deceased!

My observation about aptitude was in relation to TC.

Pity TC can't impart some of his magic into the current squad, Dearden too, he could find the net, so I don"t think Edwards can offer anything that we do not have now. Only just forgiven him for giving the rods to Blades fans when he was at Hull. Some of the squad may be coachable but others remind me of that old Sheffield saying ' Tha can't put owt weer there is nowt'

I'd like to see Keith Edwards continue with his role as commenator at Radio Sheffield. Don't agree with everything he says but like his honest opinion on players, managers and events at Bramall Lane. He doesn't just take the club line, I know it's a cliche but he says it as he sees it. Far too many commentators sit on the fence and don't want to upset their mates on the pitch. Can never let that be said about Edwards, I bet over the years he's upset quite a few of them at the Lane, especially one former self-opinionated manager called Colin.

TC used to run coaching school for u15's and send the best to be assessed at shirecliffe, now i dont know if he still does this nor how many have, if any made it to any signiicant level but this tells me as you rightly say TC has little or no senior coaching ability butcan still make a valid contribution to youth scouting.
as for edwards being a tad awkward, i said in my first reply here the man can be somewhat arrogant, saying that if i had his goal scoring record i would be a little full of myself too :).
we have paid pencil pushers 10's of thousands of pounds a week and got nothing to show for it except maybe a far inferior bank balance why not "waste" that money on nostalgia with the added bonus some players may actually learn something from him.

Yes it is mate

So the rolls mentioned in the OP were 170mm loft rolls..?

Actually, there are worse ideas than this, although the fact that Keith has sat on the edge of the proceedings happy to be a critic and not taken his ideas into any form of coaching or management (that I know of) would put a question mark against how confident he really is of his own views. There are plenty of folk happy to criticise, but few who have the balls to give it a go themselves...

Lets face it employing anyone else within the club is peanuts next to player wages...If Keith had anything to offer the club I think he would already be involved... Radio Sheffield is owlscentric enough as it is imagine what it would be like if he left!!

Should never go into work at SUFC. If he either wanted to or the club wanted to have him it would have happened previously.

Mans the ultimate Blades legend IMHO and scored some of the best goals I have ever seen. A genuine goalhanger who could do fuck all for 89 minutes then grab the winner and the headlines in the last minute.

If only we had a player like him now..........

He can't coach or manage if he hasn't been asked to do so. But I think he should stay where he is, I like hearing his take on the match.
