Love Jags, but personally wouldn't get excited about signing a soon-to-be-37-year-old squad player, and think "significant" is a bit of a stretch.

Totally agree.
I see him as a similar signing to Stearman or maybe a slight upgrade on Stearman.
Jags will mainly be cover, he’s really experienced and will be great in the dressing room.

It’s a significant signing for a Championship or league 1 club but at PL level he’s just cover.
No one ever referred to Stearmsn as a significant signing.

It’s more of a common sense, sensible underwhelming signing.
We know he’ll bring a fantastic attitude and will be a great influence on our younger players. He’s a Wilder type of player.

No one really knows but I can easily see Jagielka being called a "significant" signing. I think we all know it too. Ex-England international, huge history with the club. Bear in mind this is only a comms person saying it too, very likely off-hand. It's different to Chris Wilder saying: "This is a significant signing".

He’s says the club say it’s significant

Subjective but not in my book he isn't

Bit player at best. Doesn't have the legs to get up and down like current overlapping cb's at 37 yrs young

Good back up ..............yes

Significant.................no

It is indeed all subjective.
However, some might say that the signing of an experienced, Premier League, English International Defender (albeit now ex) would count as reasonably 'significant' possibly??
If he was 21 maybe - but 37?
Nah.

I think you've missed my point. If we're evaluating his worth to the team, and thinking about it long and hard, it's probably not a "significant signing". But Andy Giddings from Radio Sheffield could well have just been getting this word "significant" off-hand from a press officer, who hasn't been evaluating his worth to the team and hasn't really been thinking about it. To be honest, if there was one thing they'd think about it's how much news value there would be. And that's probably the only thing "significant" about Jagielka signing for us. So I'll say it again, I could easily see someone calling it significant.

I can definitely see someone at United thinking Jagielka is going to go down well and believing it's significant. I don't agree that it is but I think people might be disappointed thinking it's someone else. Hope I'm wrong.

If it's him they're referring to, they're seriously overestimating his significance.

I'm a little perplexed by this signing tbh.

Take away the link to the club, add CW's comments about young, hungry players, resale value etc and I just didn't see this one coming

Jags is on his way down and that's why Everton released him. I can't see him replacing Egan or JOC. I don't even see him replacing Stearman

Perhaps I'm doing him a disservice, but this is a huge season coming up and I have no room for any sentiment

Strange one. I wouldn’t have gone for him as I don’t see what he adds to us unless we are going to play a back four in some games. He hasn’t the legs to be one of over lapping centres and I’d be surprised if he is just coming to be this season’s Stearman.

Pinchy’s reaction is the only plus side of this in comedy value.

You missed the 37 yrs old bit that couldn't get in Evertons side.

I welcome him back but this is not significant and a tad underwhelming given the build up on here over the last hour.

I'd be underwhelmed as well, but that doesn't mean it's not significant. I don't think 'significant signing' translates to guaranteed starter or star player. I see it as a reference to his profile and CV.
