  • The story behind this photo is that Dave Mackay had just recovered from a broken leg and in his first or second match back Bremner went straight through him with one of his trademark knee high tackles. Mackay picked him up by the neck and said "do that again wee man and I'll knock you over the fuckin grandstand". Mackay was hard, Bremner was a dirty bastard. There's a big difference between the two.

  • Edit: don't know how that happened, was supposed to be the Mackay/Bremner photo!

I was at that game ,someone threw a bovril over him as well if I remember rightly

Think that was one of the most intimidating atmospheres I've been in
When we scored their whole stand turned to the far corner where I assume some blades must have been celebrating we couldn't see what happened but it was obvious they were getting a kicking
Remember someone chucking a pie in a sunlan fans face and at the end just like you we had our car chased up the street by a gang of lunatics

Don't get away days like that anymore
I was thdrd. I think it was Kevin Ball who Hodgy twatted. We won 1-0,

It was a fat bloke in the stand next to the away end who got the pie in the mush just before half time. He'd been winding Blades up before that but didnt reappear for the second half for some reason.

Mel Sterland was a vintage nobcheese.

Piggy bastard who also played for Dirty L**ds (and scored against us). He made a few appearances on local radio as a summariser, and was always as full of the deluded porcine crap you'd expect a follower of those twats to be. What's not to hate?

Actually he's quite good company. In between his visits to the toilet.

If you are adding managers then Alan Buckley always slagged us off. Sour faced git.

Lee Hughes and Luke McCormick will always be my two most hated..
Cunts!!

Another annoying fucker though after one night at the lane... Mardy fuckin arse Phil bastard Thompson

I thought Sterland was originally a Blades fan?

He was. I've asked him about it. He says "then I saw sense" which considering everything, he never really did.

English and Scottish championship medals though, no mean feat but nothing compared to his Not Guilty verdict on the Post Office safe in his garage.

As I said, good company though.

A renegade

I could put the safe that 'accidentally fell into his garage when it was unlocked' down as boyish high spirits, but turning into a pig is a shameful deed

I present the rather obscure Carl Baker, when he played for MK Plastics.

I've never been so angry at a game as when they beat us 1-0 at the Lane in the season they went up. He just seemed to be running around trying to break our players legs (and getting away with it). One particularly horrendous 'challenge' on Bob Harris stands out.

Other than that, Ainsworth would get my vote.

I thought it was Guernica.

That fat cunt Pork Jewel wound me up to fuck with his touchline smarminess towards the end of a defeat at the Lane to his premier bound Wigan team. Aidy Boothroyd was also susceptible to the odd snide remark toward us too I recall. Especially when he was being hailed as the new Mourinho. Left Northampton in great shape for Wilder to take all the plaudits for the sterling job he had done. Twat

Nice finish for us against Man United in the FA Cup semi final too, which was bizarrely played at the Lane.

I am pleased to read Sterland admits he was a Blade at one time, as people have said on here that he wasn't - and yet my Mother always told me that he supported United as a kid. She taught Sterland and his twin brother when they were at Pipworth school. So Mum is vindicated!

Was that the match that "When Saturday Comes" was filmed at half time?

Yep. Man U in their blue and white away kit. Think it was Bruce that got away with a foul on Blake in the box. Hartfield sent off for retaliating to a sly kick from Cantona then Cantona and Hughes scored late on with Cantona's being a superb chip from about 25 yards.

Just read that the former Barnsley centre half Paul Futcher has died aged 60. I was going to mention him in this thread but couldn't remember if it was him or his brother Ron who was the really dirty player whenever we played them.

Paul was the defender and Ron was the striker

Kenny Burns was a dirty bastard when we had games against Barnsley.

Jermaine Johnson.

Also hated Kevin Pressman and Andy Johnson, not because they were pricks but because Johnson scored every time and Pressman played a blinder too

Nice to see that quite a few of us mentioned Gerrard with all the current media love-in over 'England's greatest ever midfield player' retiring.

The diving cheating Scouse git even had the hypocrisy to complain about foreign players diving.

Its a shame he didn't get the MK Plastic job as I'm sure he'd have failed miserably and we could have laughed our cocks off (sorry Linz).

Heard a bit of the TalkBloke phone in yesterday afternoon with Adrian 'shock-jock' Durham and Goughie creaming themselves about how great a player he'd been and questioning if he was the 'best ever'. Made me laugh when the first Scouser to ring in, said he wasn't even the best Liverpool player and he'd have gone for Dalglish!
