The last footballer I ever saw play in the flesh who was older than me was ex Charlton and Wednesday defender Lawrie Madden. He was in his late thirties when he was sent off at Preston for allegedly attacking young PNE winger Gareth Ainsworth.

The wily old veteran was playing for Chesterfield at the time, and when the return match came along he waited afterwards in the tunnel for Ainsworth to pass by........and then punched his lights out.

Ainsworth without doubt number one for me.

However, Mark Stein is right up there as well. Ruined my first ever away game - should have known then that it was a sign of things to come when it came to the big games.

Also on the list is Chris Waddle - what a twat.

Great thread and I'm not gonna argue with Ainsworth and that nasty piece of work, Marsh who I saw deliberately break Tom McAlister's leg all those years ago.

Other honourable mentions who I've despised through the years are:

Sam Allardyce - kicked owt that moved when he was centre half at Bolton, even the police horses wore shin pads.
Alan Hudson - became an instant twat in my eyes when he was picked for England in front of TC by Revie. Made my day when Currie nut-megged him that day v Stoke and blew kisses to the kop afterwards.
Johnny Giles - just plain dirty and fuckin sly about how he went about it. Having said that, I'd have loved him at the Lane in a Blades shirt.
Chris Eagles - show pony, nesh fucker, greasy haired gyppo who for some strange reason, always played a fuckin blinder against us.
Curran - never mind the car park protests against Danny Wilson, the fans should have patrolled the streets with weapons when we threatened to sign that nasty piece of shit. Should never been allowed near the Lane, never mind given a red & white shirt.
Paul Dickov - as a player, a nasty twat. As a manager, an even nastier twat. The Oldham game a few years ago (ball-boy incident) was the closest I've come to running on the pitch and risking my freedom, as I fully intended to land one on the little fucker. He encouraged gamesmanship to be taken to a new level that day.

I'll try and think of some more after I've had an ice -bath.

Sept 1995 - we were winning 2-0, his play acting got Dane Whitehouse sent off. Crowd booed him every time he touched the ball after the sending off. When Ipswich equalised late in the match, he sank to his knees, celebrated in a sarcastic style and looking towards the Kop and South Stand

...and, after the match the Ipswich team bus pulled up outside the social club. About 20 Blades stormed out and around 6 of them charged on the bus to confront Tarrico. Strangely, his 'hard man' act deserted him.

If you are adding managers then Alan Buckley always slagged us off. Sour faced git.

Stan Ternent (Burnley). As NW said in his book 'Made In Sheffield':

'A few days later, we played Burnley at our place. Megson and Stan Ternent at Bramall Lane in the space of a week. It's a wonder pest control didn't pop round to deal with the infestation'.

What a man, what a kit!

Really wanted that kit as an 8 year old but my dad said it was ugly so never got one.

Even before the Tevez affair I disliked West Ham. I remember in our promotion season in 1990 they had an annoying player called Ward who used to be critical of our tactics. Even more annoying that they did the double over us.

Mark Ward. He got done for dealing drugs a few years back.

Joe Royle was always a real mardy arse twat.

He sulked like fuck when we ended their plastic pitch unbeaten run.

Don't need to mention the obvious candidate but I really fucking hated Diouf. What a vile piece of shit human he is. In fact I wouldn't even say he was human, wife beating twat. I'd say Madine as well but he's just a child.

one of my favourite Warnock quotes was when he said he wanted to compare Diouf to a sewer rat, but that would be unfair on sewer rats.
if he couldn't kick a ball he would probably have spent half his life in the nick, probably for woman beating or being a dick carrying a gun. The only down side is he may have ended up as "big Leroys" bitch, and left a 5 year stretch with a trumper the size of a hippos yawn.....

Didn't he end up playing for Warnock?

Leon Clarke before we signed him.

I know he doesn't play anymore but I always hated Darren Huckerby.

I never really had any strong feelings about Huckerby until the play off semi final home leg against Forest. When Johnson scored Forest's first he made a point of gesturing to the kop. Never had any time for him after that.

I’ve always despised Dean Lewington, the curly haired ginger one for MK Dons. It’s bad enough being considered a club legend for such a nothing club, but after MK scored at bramalll Lane I remember he managed to pick the ball out of the net and punt it out of his hands almost out of the stadium. W*nker

I remember something in particular with him that happened at BL

Something along the lines of him cheating/falling on the floor after a slight touch/calling for everything. I just remember him being a prick
