Morgs on Hume...

Morgan isn't completely blameless, as other posters have pointed out. His flailing elbow was dangerous.

Indeed... which is what he was booked for.

However, what I'm saying is that the outcry is only in proportion to the damage done to Hume, not the original incident i.e. a clumsy heading of the ball (there wasn't even a challenge, because Hume was never going to win the ball in that situation.)

The Barnsley fans are saying that the replay shows intent and I just can't see it and it is impossible to try and judge "intent". The only person looking at a player was Hume at Morgan. Morgan's eyes were on the ball and he made the header.

Morgan was going to head the ball. He pulled his arm back - as many players do when going to head the ball - to create a bit more force when his head connected with it. You watch the next time someone does a good header without jumping - nine times out of ten they'll do exactly what Morgan did. He was looking at the ball, not the players who might be around him.

Hume was also looking at the ball, which is why there was the collision between elbow and head.

It was an accident. A tragic one, but these things happen in football.

Morgan knew the player was there though its so obvious

Hume would have been able to make a challenge had tha elbow not have occured he wasn't that far away

and he didnt seem to struggle to get power behind it after the elbow had happened, i know from playing you can get it a good header without sticking your elbow out as you're not allowed to do it

Comments from Davey on BBC

"He got caught in the face with an elbow. He couldn't move his neck," added Davey.

"His neck was stiff and his cheekbone's not in the same shape it was when he started the game."

If his cheek wasn't the same shape why didn't they send him for an xray straight away?
Very poor of the Barnsley medical team if that is the case.
They could have ended up with a player in a much worse condition (not that his condition wasn't bad enough) by not dealing with his head injury thouroghly in the first place.

It's hard to say what was obvious and what wasn't unless you're Chris Morgan. To judge that a player definitely knew that someone was there to definitely wanting to elbow them is a bit of a jump in conclusions to make looking at the replay.

We'll have to agree to disagree there kidder. I don't think he'd have been able to head the ball... he'd have probably headed Morgan looking at the direction he was travelling in.

Thats poor from the Medical team.

Having seens Richards and Corluka have similar accidents in recent months they were put in a neck brace and taken immediatly to hospital. Regardless of how serious the injury was its something they should of done anyway as precaution for a head injury. Yet the Barnsley medical staff just assumed Hume was fine because he was able to walk off.

I've seen the replay lots of times now and to be honest it doesn't look to me as if there is intent to smash his elbow in his face. His arm was out well before they made contact. It wasn't as if he dropped a Muay Thai elbow in his face.

To me it was just one of those things that happens on a football pitch.

I've seem much worse 2 footed challenges.

When I was 14 I was playing in goal when I got studded in the head when I came to get a low cross. I was knocked unconcious but woke up feeling okish, a bit dazed and my eyes hurt but the ambulance arrived after about 10 minutes and the paramedics put me on the spine board with a neck brace on just as a precaution. That was just local sunday league football, so why wasn't it done for someone who does it for a living? With an ambulance already at the scene?

From a law point of view, poor medical assistance at the scene wouldn't break the chain of causation. "But for" the actions of the injuring party, the victim wouldn't need medical assistance.

But from a human point of view, it's a very poor show from Barnsley. United have an x ray machine at Bramall Lane to assess things quickly... even Morgan was taken to hospital for concussion despite the medical assistance at Bramall Lane.

Simon Davey really does need to shut the hell up now. He's complaining on SSN that it wasn't taken more seriously at the time? Their own medical staff saw fit for him to go home!! Get your own house in order before you go shouting off at others. Thick git. He hardly cared about that incident at full time but now people want to know he's pretending he was always going on about it. He has gone down a lot in my opinion. I thought he was a good manager but now he just seems like a moaning sore loser.

So as Davey admitted in the BBC piece on this, he noticed Hume's face and did nothing.
Plus his medical staff did nothing.
Hume obviously was in no state to give his own opinion as he was more than likely concust and none of his teammates noticed or if they did they didn't tell anyone (or at least anyone who was listening).
So who did he expect to take it more seriously at the time???????? A steward, the carpark attendant or the bloke who was in the carpark after the match wanting autographs?????

So who did he expect to take it more seriously at the time????????

He means he wanted the referee to take Morgan's actions more seriously and red card him.

The injuries to his player are a minor point of the bee Davey has in his bonnet.

We need a few people to go over there to back him up tbh.

What's the point? They'll just say that we feel we have to go over there and defend him because he's obviously guilty.

Would they defend morgan if it was hume that put him in the same situation? I think not.

sorry to say but morgan is in the wrong after watching the footage he deffinatly swings an elbow towards him .......but the ref has already dealt with the situation and produced a yellow card so don't know what the F.A. can do

i had a look at that board and to be honest they're just going on and on and on like a bunch of old ladies. they've convinced themesleves Morgs was behind Belsen, the killing fields, bloody sunday, friday and monday and the whole Franz Ferdinand thing that led to that spot of bother away in Europe earlier in the 20th century. Not worth it. Nobody's going to have their opinion changed on this one.

Ditto.

What I'd like to know is why no-one was this incensed at the time?

Why they left him 5 mins in the hopes of getting him back on the pitch?

Why they sent him home on Saturday instead of giving him an x-ray?

Why Davey used his post match interview moaning about the penalty and not this incident?

Seems to me, since finding out the extent of his injury, suddenly the incident has become 100 times worse and worthy of the press office at Barnsley working overtime. It's a pity they aren't more concerned for the player than getting some cash and dragging peoples names through the dirt.

Spot on Foxy, I am getting more and more furious at the antics of Simon Davey, Barnsley football club and that idiot who presents football heaven on Radio Sheffield who all have Morgan down as guilty of everything apart from the Reichstag fire. From my viewpoint and from the crowd's reaction or lack of reaction it looked a case of two players colliding, replay's show he did connect with the elbow but to suggest intent is in my view bordering on libelous. The only intent I see on the repay is Hume's intent to go through the back of Morgan to get a ball he had no chance of winning. Post match Davey made no mention of the incident but since Hume's condition worsened he and Barnsley FC have gone into overdrive to use it as a stick to beat Morgan and SUFC with ablely assisted by the fool on "football heaven". We know there is a bad feeling towards us after we signed Brian Howard for little or nothing is this their way of trying to get more money out of us ? As for the prick who presented last nights "football heaven" what a piece of sensationalist journalism, I'm only surprised he didn't accuse Morgan of slipping Hume's wife a crippler up the wrong un while he was laid up in hospital they all should really be ashamed of themselves. If I was Kevin McCabe I would be seriously thinking of banning Radio Sheffield from doing anymore matchday commentaries or interviews.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Can anybody tell me and still keep a straight face that they believe Morgan deliberately set out to seriously injure Hume? No, I didn't think so.

This was an accident. This is how Wikipedia defines the word.
"An accident is a specific, identifiable, unexpected, unusual and unintended external event which occurs in a particular time and place, without apparent or deliberate cause but with marked effects."

An accident, pure and simple. A sad outcome, and nobody with any sense wants to see any opposition player suffer a very serious injury, and I hope Hume makes a quick and full recovery, but it was an accident received during a game of football, which last time I looked was still a sport that permitted contact between opponents and has laws to govern what happens when the officials deem that contact to be excessive.

Morgan is a thug. Was terrible and further action should be taken.

However, please FA make sure he is available for the Sheffield derby - He's a liability

Why is he a thug? And why should further action be taken? What about the elbow on Kyle Naughton from your wonderful player?
And why is he a liability? Give examples please.

I'll take more liabilities in the team if it means we keep the tightest defence in the league, only 9 goals conceeded in the league all season. Considering the Oinkers have conceeded 25 in total. Our 'liabity' of a 'thug' is a brilliant defender :)

I assume that is from a balanced viewpoint and you'll be calling for further action from the assault on Naughton?

Or does that one not count as despite being much clearer in terms of intent Naughts didn't end up in hospital?

Where did i say that?

After seeing the challenge again on Naughton i thought it should have been a red card and a ban.

And i suppose all your opinions is of a balanced viewpoint that Morgan 'isn't' a thug. The elbow was horrible and showed Morgan for the real dirty wan*er that he is.

you try heading the ball with power and not moving your shoulders (and in turn your arms to give you etra leverage to get power into the header.
Thats what morgan did, it just happened that Hume came steaming in at the same time from Morgans blind side a Morgans head didn't move from straight forward looking at the ball.
it was a nasty accident, these things happen. Buust against Man U anyone?! nasty but an accident.
Slanderous comments like yours are well out of order DJ. Just like Daveys accusations and some of the shit thats been on the radio in the last few days.

TV will lways make things look worse than when it actually happened by slowing it down so it looks far more than it actually was. Things that look innocuous at full speed get analysed to the n'th detail and made into a massive thing and people overreact even though most of the time they didn't see the original incident.

Where did i say that?

Didn't say you did mate, I was just asking the question. Most Wednesday fans who've been crowing about it today have claimed the one on Naughton was nothing like it and shouldn't have been a card at all.... after all, it didn't even hurt him.

I would be more than pleased if was made available, then he could produce a skull-cracker on the vile Jermaine Johnson

Davey is now on the news saying he's worried that the press are making light of it.

What are they supposed to have done? burnt Morgan as a witch this morning?

because all they've done all day long is slate the bloke and do their utmost to discredit him and his career.

It's at the 30th "Official Statement" you have to seriously ask yourself... Has it more to do with the Howard fallout and result than the poor bugger who's copped for a stay in the MRSA centre?

possibly he's suffered more damage because of failure to properly medically assess or monitor the situation by medical staff on the day. Injuries happen - the speed and quality of care is vital.

Totally agree surely if it was that bad he should have gone to Hospital

Am I correct in thinking that no further action will be taken against Morgan by the FA as the referee dealt with the matter at the time with a yellow card. Seem to recall this was why Morgan was banned after his tussle with that Arsenal player because the referee hadnt dealt with it?

That's the theory. They often like to bend the rules dependant on player and situation though.

I think they bent the rules for ben thatcher on pedro mendes- but that was even worse than Morgans

What irritates me is if this had been killa, everyone would be saying that it was an accident, but as its morgan then its GBH

PS I loved the picture with the slogan covering every blade of grass
