Left wing back in particular I think we could do with someone better going forward. Ideally a converted winger.

If we stick with Stevens and Lafferty we'll be lacking a bit in that area and may regret not strengthening.

And we need Brooks back ASAP.

I think squad wise we are fine . I just feel Wilder got it wrong tonight .

I agree on one thing though , we miss Brooks .

I agree on the left back front. I think Stevens is a capable left back at this level, but at times lacks the quality and end product needed for the LWB role.

I think our main priority in the transfer market will need to wait until the summer: making some room (which will be a hard decision) for a new forward.

Wilder has said no more signings coming in but it's becoming clear where we need to strengthen next season. We are now seeing which players can cut it week in, week out in this league and which players just lack that bit of quality.

We certainly aren't far off and I think you have to take your hat off to the management and squad that we are already seen as one of the better sides in the league. It's no longer a fluke. We are playing well in most games and against the best sides. We just lack real quality in certain areas and that will likely see us miss out. We've made huge strides this season though and everyone will have learnt a lot.

A new formation has to be considered for home games. We've fired 3 blanks in a row. That is not good enough, and it's not simply bad luck.

With that in mind I wouldn't be against seeing a quick winger come in.

We were supposed to sign pace in this window but again we haven't.

We have a competitive squad. One I'm really happy with considering where we were the beginning of last season to where we are today

We've strengthened and we are competitive and we will have consolidated somewhat by the end of the season

For me next season, it's all about bringing possibly a couple of players that raise the quality of the first team rather than a number of players of similar quality to what we already have

A proven Championship striker (rocking horse shit) will improve the team and that's no disrespect to the strikers we already have

Sooner or later if we are to be serious contenders, we will need to raise the quality of our signings, but I don't think we need many to make a difference

Mr Wilder needs to start being more sensible with his substitutions.
Jon Lundstram is not the answer to any question unless it's "who shall we play in midfield in the Carabao cup first round?"

Agree on both points. I can't see us signing anyone else unless we get a Kev transfer deadline special, which I don't think is likely. The squad is ok, and will improve overall, but is slightly unbalanced and missing quality and pace.

As others have said, I think we need to try one upfront with 2 of Duffy, Brooks or Holmes behind. The problem there is that Wilson will no doubt have to be that one.

I don't see Leonard, Fleck and Evans as an attacking home midfield. We need more creativity in and around the box.

Leonard and Wilson are pacey ?

Agree about Brooks, he's the bit of something different that is so hard to find, so expensive to buy and which we so sorely miss

I think we are too deep in the season to change formation. I also don't think we have to. We just need to do things quicker across the pitch and ensure everybody is doing what they should.

But in terms of the summer - a right footed CB, a LWB to replace Lafferty, 2 CF to replace Sharp (if he goes)/Lavery/Wilson/Donaldson and a GK.

Leonard's a more defensive player though, and Wilson doesn't look much above average pace wise to me.

I thought Wilson was quite quick imo but poss just needs more games to settle in. Think Leonard does drive forward a lot but again needs game time with his new buddies.

Brooks should be back soon. Would love another 3 or 4 players in the same mould as DB.

Great post.

Not going to be popular but...

We need a more capable attacking right centre back than Basham if we are going to persist playing the way we are with the formation we play. He’s so wasteful and clumsy past the halfway line.
Would like to see Leonard given a go there and to drop Duffy back in to the middle with Evans and Fleck.

Me too mate, me too. But the deadline is tomorrow so if that doesn’t work we’re stuck with what we’ve got.

By the start of next season, Stevens, Basham, Duffy, Clarke and Donaldson will not be first choice players for us. I expect in the summer 12/13 players to move on and a similar amount in. Priority HAS to be left wing back, 2/3 strikers in, couple of centre backs and wingers.

We should just go and get Joe Riley on loan.

Jon Lundstram is not the answer to any question unless it's "who shall we play in midfield in the Carabao cup first round?"

So, what did you think Lundstram did wrong when he came on? He played a couple of fantastic, inch perfect balls out to the wing, and was not at fault for their goal.

Wilder did favour 4-2-3-1 previously.

Maybe this at home? As fun as it is seeing JOC bombing forward, you can’t expect a defender to have the same quality in the final third as an attacker.

If you went with JOC and Stearman and that afforded you the opportunity to have Holmes in the XI, this might be more productive.

Although it might mean a striker dropping to the bench, I’d quite like to see Brooks, Duffy and Holmes supporting Clarke or Donaldson with Evans and Fleck in behind.

I’m not sure how much value we’re getting from a third centre half at home. In an odd way, having another body further up the pitch might make shots from distance get crowded out.

Stevens had a decent first half and Lafferty looked ok on Saturday

Stevens and Baldock in that first half were pushing Villa so far back, we were getting in behind on both wings. Bruce saw this and suppressed the threat.

The 4 remaining strikers on our books, not counting Wilson as he’s a loan, have cost a total of <£1m.

It’s beginning to show.
