And more...

BLACKPOOL and Huddersfi eld have joined Championship rivals Leeds, Burnley and Millwall in the £500,000 chase for Sheffield United skipper Nick Montgomery.

Seasiders boss Ian Holloway wants Montgomery, 30, to bolster his midfield, while Town chief Simon Grayson tried to sign him while he was in charge of Leeds last summer.

Montgomery has one year left on his contract – but the Blades are prepared to sell him.

"Hello, is that the Daily Star? I've got a transfer rumour for your sports pages about Sheffield United star Nick Montgomery.....

Yes, there's a huge battle to sign him. Millwall are definitely keen. Burnley and Leeds are desperate to get him. And Blackpool and Huddersfield are really interested......yes, that's right - FIVE clubs....

Great. Tomorrow's edition? Brilliant - thanks a lot for this..... My name? It's Nic....I mean, er, it's Mick, er, Nontgomery"

A link to Huddersfield and Blackpool now mentioned in today's Stir. The former seems to hang on the notion that Grayson once 'considered making a bid' for him at Leeds. The latter is one team I can't ever see even looking at him as their style is completely unsuitable for adding Monty.

Blackpool have had their own version of Monty in recent years in Keith Southern but he's gone this summer to Udders which kind of puts them out of the running I would have thought.

Holloway likes to play a 'Monty' type but then again he's had Charlie Adam and David Vaughan in there as well which allows for such a player. The fact he's signed about 5 midfielders already this summer suggests he's not in the running.

I would have thought Millwall would have been back by now if they were interested and Burnley have just signed Stock from Donny so unless clubs are just biding their time until the end of the month, you do wonder where this 'battle for his signature' is going.

It has always been paper talk.

Fair play to his agent he is trying to shift him but just not doing it enough!
